Man, he didn't even have to raise his voice. Even the PM was riveted. Very smooth.

Is there a British equivalent of "Oh Snap" guy?

What, was he excessively blunt to thin-skinned insecure Frenchmen?

It's amazing how few people understand how quantitative easing works. When interest rates hit a floor, it's your only option. Let's do nothing and see what happens, that'll be fun.

This guy is making the rounds of the American conservative circuit and being praised as a hero. Way to go, jackass. You've won the Limbaugh/Hannity demographic. What exactly is your plan? Oh, you have none? Go cry Emo Kid.

While I may not often agree with conservative politics, you do have to admit that the guy is a lot more eloquent than any mainstream conservative in America today. I wouldn't mind seeing him debate fiscal policy with Obama. It could be very interesting.

Have we stooped that low? Because someone has command of the English language we discount the veracity of his words? He's a farking nutjob. He's raving and ranting and offers no solution of his own. It's incredibly easy to piss all over a proposal to fix something. Call me when he has his own proposal. He has none. He's a whiny biatch.

zephyy: you guys get to choose between a centre right party and a right wing party next election

Yeah, but the difference is that our right wing party is largely just right wing from a financial point of view, without having any of the "morality"/religious/anti-science/hatemongering baggage that the Republicans can't seem to shift. On many levels the Conservative party is far more left wing than the Republicans would be willing to tolerate. Would you get a Republican leader saying "I stood up and said that marriage was important, and as far as I was concerned it didn't matter whether it was between a man and a woman, a man and a man or a woman and a woman"?

While I'm all in favour of solutions as opposed to just moaning, when being faced with a PM who's massively unpopular and bears a moderate amount of responsibility for the hole we're in but isn't accepting responsibility for it, sometimes you've got to have a rant...

Thanks. I did some googling, but kept getting crappy "ZOMG THE DEBT IS HUGE" links. My google-fu is weak. CSM is fairly trustworthy, so I'll rely on them for this one.

It sort of makes the speaker seem as if he's being combative for the sake of being combative, when you look at it in this light. At the very least, he's being more opinionated than fact-based. He offers no solutions, but instead says that the UK is the worst off and cites 10% of GDP deficit, and then references to the US who is so much better because of.. Clinton's taxes?

In reality, He never clarified, just said that we used our prosperity to "patch the holes on our ship" or some such, which isn't true for the most part. Clinton gave us a surplus instead of deficit, but our deficit as % of GDP is still about the same as the UK.

I can't stand Brown, but Hannan is a complete toilet-head. Everything Brown has done wrong once, Hannan would have done wrong twice - a few writers have put his comments in context and they are worth reading before forming an opinion (unless you are some idiot dittohead) - check out Hannan on Iceland for a particularly fun angle.

I like much of Europe, but being a British Euro MP is really a bit of a fraud - very few of the electorate have even the slightest clue what policies they have voted for (if they vote, which they tend not to do) or what their Euro MP is / is not doing. The position of a British Euro MP, particularly a Tory one, is really just a non-democratic post filled by friends of the party who want to play at being politicians but aren't suitable candidates to be real politicians
