Heh, last night I was explaining to my mom and dad, who exclusively get all their news and opinion from FoxNews and conservative talk radio, about credit default swaps and how their overuse and abuse has been the largest factor in the economic crisis. Neither of them had ever heard of a CDS before. They listen to talk radio all day long and my dad has FoxNews on a good part of each evening, you'd think by now they would be at least slightly informed, but nope.

I learned about all about it by listening to NPR on my drive to and from work, 10 minutes each way.

The Republicans appear to have given up on acting in a manner that might prevent themselves from being mocked. Perhaps they do it out of ignorance... believing that everybody is laughing with them and not at them. Perhaps they do it for some vain need for attention... because even if they are mocking you they are at least looking at you. is a good explanation of why people were sh*tting their pants around the time of the bailout. Whether people agree the bailout was the right remedy or not, it's a good background on why it was proposed/considered in the first place.

It's a quick story, produced in collaboration with This American Life, but I thought it was pretty well done.
