Oh Prodigy guitarist, don't blame the herb for your ahitty, shiatty music, which was tolerable for about 3 months in 1997 and now sounds as ridiculous as 80s hair-metal.

On a side note "Fat of the land" was the first CD I bought with my own money. It was 1995.

I thought it was a novelty group, like Alvin & the Chipmunks.

I've said this in another Prodigy thread, but it bears repeating: I saw them at Coachella around 2004 and they played "Firestarter" at least 3 times. Seriously. Also, "Prodigy?" Really? That has to be the most ironically named thing since the liquor store near my house changed its name to American Market.

Accolade 2009-03-26 07:47:23 PM
Fat of the Land is a great album. Yes, great. Why? Because you can listen to the whole thing and find joy throughout. This is in opposition to their latest release, Invaders Must Die, which is merely a good album; specifically tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6.

/also surprised to hear "guitarist" used as if it's a contributory force in the band... err.. group... err... whatever... entity.

same here, at a blockbuster music...thing...of all places. I was 10 at the time.

recently, I listened to their new album (invaders must die? I think?) and it's pretty sweet. they dropped off my radar but it's good to know that people are still paying attention to them...even though they think they suck. but then...why would they...? nevermind. I forgot people are stupid.

either way, albums alright and i'll go back to forgetting about them soon enough.

G_Fish: On a side note "Fat of the land" was the first CD I bought with my own money. It was 1995.

How'd you manage that? Considering:
"The Fat of the Land is an album by The Prodigy. The album was released by XL Recordings on June 30, 1997 (and on July 1, 1997 in the USA)."

/Master of Puppets was my first CD purchase (got it in '94)
//paid for half of it with singles, the other half with quarters
///cashier was thrilled

Mine was G&R Lies.

I'm considerably older than you, obviously.

But the first music I bought was Foreigner's Double vision on LP.

Like I said CONSIDERABLY older.

Side notes are great.

Not the greatest album in the world, but it's solid and I still listen to it once and awhile.

Ah, a Prodigy prowess thread. I heard Fire on community radio (kdhx.org) in '92 and got an imported copy of Experience on XL recordings and paid a pretty penny for it. I think it was like $32, but was so awesome I didn't mind. God I had some great rave experiences.

I, too, came to speculate as to whether Prodigy really does have a guitarist.

They don't. A programmer, a keyboard player, two vocalists and I think, for a short while, a DJ.

/Saw them in '96. They were pretty good.

I just dug up Jericho and Out of Space on You Tube, and it really brought back some memories. I recently touched base with the chick I used to go to raves with, and found out that she still has my copy of Experience. I HAVE to get that back. That was probably some of the best techno ever made.

When I was going to those parties, I had to go to 2 or 3 different places, usually small specialty record stores, to find out where the party was actually happening. The last one I attended was packed with cops within a couple of hours, and I was in absolutely no condition to deal with cops. It was a miracle that I got out of there without being arrested, much less surviving driving home.

I think I'm old school enough to use the term. It's funny. I'm more of an modern folk/urban twang/alt country fan nowadays. I never thought I'd hear myself say something like that.

Maybe no guitarist, but they have real drums and a drummer on a couple of tracks on the new album. Yes, it's Dave Grohl, but still.

My first album: Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese
My second album: Nirvana - Nevermind

Never liked The Prodigy after Music For the Jilted Generation, even though I am a huge fan of techno and electronica.

I really don't understand why most modern popular music has a guitarist. Now, the older hits, those were different. See:

Pink Floyd: GUITAR SOLOS HOLY CRAP
Allman/Skynard/Cream/Hendrix: endless interesting guitar rambling.

Today's radio stuff I've heard follows one of two strategies:

#1. Single detuned guitar riff played repeatedly. See: Slipknot, hard rock, Korn, etc etc. Solution: Program some sort of guitar equivalent to a drum machine, use samples.

#2. Plink-Plink-Plink in the background. See: Vast arrays of pop and rock. IT SOUNDS LIKE A KEYBOARD. MAYBE IT IS A KEYBOARD AND THEY JUST CLAIM TO HAVE A GUITARIST?

Why did this have to happen to music? WHY? Several of my friends have the same taste, and none of us are old!

My first album purchased was Led Zepplin's ZoSo. My next purchase was Kiss Alive 2. Later I remember purchasing Van Halen's first record during its first few weeks of release.

I visited London in the summer of '94...

Heard Music For the Jilted Generation for the first time..."No Good" to be exact. They played that video on Mtv UK every couple of hours back then.

Blew my mind out of the back of my head it did....mind you, grundge was big in LA at the time, so hearing that was so....different.

Needless to say I bought the album and brought it back home...became a big fan of the genre pretty quickly (even if the stuff was damn hard to find in pre-internet LA. Didn't even realize there was an association to drugs with it for almost 5 years.

Go fig. =-D

That's BS I believe. I was there and they destroyed.

I agree wholeheartedly about weed being an ambition killer, but who needs to be ambitious all the time?

They used to have a live guitarist and drummer. I believe the guitarist even played a little something on a record or two.

However, Keith Flint was not, is not, and probably never will be a guitarist. I have it on good authority that he was trying to learn guitar at one point and failing quite spectacularly.
