Dick, you are an idiot.

Wall Street drove the entire country off a cliff - remember? Do they expect pats on the head? President Obama has done a masterful job of preventing lynch mobs in the streets of Manhattan.

It would do you well to remember only the threat of massive further disruptions are promoting the obscene stimulus package. It would be easy to drop a few names off the list of recipients.

Best for Wall Street to carry their hats in hand, remember their roles in getting us here and get over themselves.

Meh, it's not like they have any stake in a healthy economy so why should they cooperate with anyone ?

Let them do whatever they want.

Fark off, Dick. You have zero credibility.
The Wall Street goons that got us into this mess deserve to be "castigated". If they've got a problem with it, fark 'em. The government could let them crash and burn instead of bailing their asses out.

I don't believe in violence, generally. I think riots and revolutions are fools' games and are dangerous to everyone while being beneficial to almost no one. However, considering guys like AIG are already saying they're getting death threats for their bonuses and a very large number of Americans are blaming their economic worries and troubles on the shenanigans engaged in by the entire financial sector...

MAYBE these self-important little coonts should shut the hell up for a few months, keep their heads down, and pray that hotter heads than mine cool down before we see Wall Street stormed like Versailles.

Overstating that just a tad aren't you? The citizens of this country have become far too soft to take on any kind of massive mob justice or revolution. Face it, the worst anyone will really do is impotently rant and make wildly exaggerated claims and threats anonymously on some web site.

I support the reinstatement of the ducking stool. Everybody that got rich as fark off these credit default swaps should be publicly ducked in front of a jeering mob outside the Wal Mart in Grenada, Mississippi

you dont' think this would have any impact on the rest of us, say, the entire economy going even deeper into the crapper, credit totally disappearing like a dodo bird, and a couple hundred 401(k) and pension plans disappearing overnight?

you'd risk all that for spite?

There's only one thing to do: close down Wall Street.

Fortunately, NASDAQ's up in Times Square, so no problem.

No, Wall Street has too long of an attention span for that plan to work.

He should castigate them on Mondays and Tuesdays, then ask for cooperation on Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday would be a transition day.

The way the market can overreact to even minor perturbations? Quite likely, I'd say.

EmrysX [TotalFark] 2009-03-26 01:15:13 PM
defending wall street is a losing tactic with the vast majority of the country.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2009-03-26 01:19:20 PM
Well, given the nice little bear rally we've had the last couple weeks, it appears that yes, the President can do that and Wall Street likes it.

Or, we can ignore the market as a factor of determining economic health and write it off as a day to day perturbation of how people feel.

"Does he not understand that when he ignites a public furor over AIG bonuses and then incites Congress to pass a punitive tax, he sends shivers down the spines of every other corporate executive who makes a lot of money?"

Yeah, that's the ticket. We wouldn't be upset about these bonuses if Obama didn't tell us to be upset about them first. Congress wouldn't have been mad either if Obama hadn't been mad first. Sure thing, Sparky.

Are people like Dick Morris living in some alternate dimension where this stuff is actually true? I really can't fathom people just pulling fake factoids like this out of their asses for months on end, so it MUST be that his dimension is fundamentally different from our own.

bradkanus [TotalFark] 2009-03-26 01:27:00 PM
Wall Street mad? It was Obama and Dodd who made sure those bonuses were paid out. They are Wall Street's best friend!

Well, until Obama needs to shiat on them... but hey - what's a little bad press in exchange for a few million bucks?

Outtaphase [TotalFark] 2009-03-26 01:29:53 PM
Now I understand the big spike in Atlas Shrugged sales. Dick Morris wants a fresh copy after each moment spent alone in his bunk making the pages stick together.

He sounds more like a conservative college sophomore every time he opens his mouth.

You know, if anyone wants to call this class warfare, then they should consider September 16, 2008 the war's Pearl Harbor.

It's not that we're too soft, it's that things aren't that bad yet. Even at our worst, people have gotten enough food to survive and there's been enough hope that people went wandering the country looking for jobs rather than trying to instate a new government. And that was the depression -- we haven't even put a toe into the ocean that we were at the bottom of back then.

Admittedly, though, yes, in other parts of the world the bloody football games necessitate a violent response for some reason. In the US we usually try to make sure our violence will actually accomplish something before we execute it, note that our terrorists have all been of unibomber type rather than the shrapnel-on-a-random-bus type. We are calmer to some extent -- not the same thing as docile.

The TALF and bank bailout plans are massive giveaways to the banks, hedge funds and private equity shops. What in the world could they be mad about? A little shaming? Go cry into your hankerchiefs made of sewn together hundies.

These dillbags need his cooperation. I'm not sure they understand they have fully digested the concept of negotiation leverage. Cut them loose, let them hang from the rope they tied around their own necks and see them beg for him to place another stool under their feet.
