I'm not talking 'bout moving in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowing
The stars are out
And I'd really love to see you tonight
Really love to see you tonight

/what a nice mellow 70's song.
//R.I.P. England Dan

Sad. I always wondered why he didn't get together with his brother, who was in Seals and Krofts. They could have been a singularity of mellow.

LOVE that song, one of my all-time favorites.

Good-bye music man.

Until Dan Seals got sick, the brothers were working as a duo, Seals & Seals.

There's a circus joke in there somewhere but I won't make it... RIP, sadness and all.

"I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" was one of those songs that started out with a fake one-sided telephone conversation, in the tradition of "Chantilly Lace" and similarly done around the same time by ELO with "Telephone Line". One could make a little playlist of songs like that, there must be more.

NewHairGrowth 2009-03-26 02:52:21 PM
They did a good version of Todd Rundgren's "Love Is The Answer". But then it is pretty tough to mess up a Rundgren song.

Damn it all to hell and back again.

I really liked Dan Seals. I just read on Wikipedia a few days ago that he had undergone stem cell treatment for the cancer earlier this year. I only really knew him for his country music. I loved his music and his voice and his songs.

They Rage On, IMHO is the best song he ever did. I remember seeing the video years ago and the song has stuck with me for a long time.

Hah - I thought I was the only one who heard it that way.

I know he did other great work, but Dan Seals was part of one of the greatest 5 pop tunes ever recorded. For that song alone he is immortal. RIP

Aw, this sucks. England Dan and John Ford Coley are one of my guilty pleasure bands. One of the first singles I ever bought was "Nights Are Forever Without You" and I have entirely too many songs of their on my iPod. RIP, England Dan.

Agreed. Great craftsmanship.

I broke into radio 20 years ago doing overnites at a country station - a format which I had virtually zero knowledge of. I hated it at first, but then songs like that made me eventually come to the realization that there are only two kinds of music in the world.

Good and bad.

Ah, damn! This type of country music is what I enjoy (take Bop out of the equation anyway). Bordertown is pretty much spot on to this day

John Buck 41 2009-03-26 06:38:37 PM
Too bad; you'd be hard-pressed to hear his music on most country stations these days, thanks to farking corporate playlists.

I remember some cheesy variety show it the 70s, might have been the Captain and Tennille Show, had a segment where a female (probably Toni Tennille) was singing the "Really Love To See You" song on the phone to John Davidson. They used split-screen technology for it.

Found it.

"Too bad; you'd be hard-pressed to hear his music on most country stations these days, thanks to farking corporate playlists."

The station where I work plays some of his material. I'm pretty neutral when it comes to his country stuff. Better than most, I'm just not a big country music fan. (except for oddball alt stuff.)

I got to talk to him once on an interview. Seemed like a very laid-back, nice guy. Didn't know he was sick. Bummer.

You must have local ownership and no consultant, or at least a consultant who isn't a douchebag.

Doesn't anyone remember "Southwest F.O.B."? He was in that band.
They had a hit with "Smell of Incense" in 1968. It was pop-psychedelia, but it was a good song.

Yeah, well someone just did cuz I heard a Todd song in a TUMS commercial about ten minutes ago.

And regarding the article: It makes no difference that a lot of you like him; the truth is the guy was a light-weight if his ED/JFC songs are any indication.

We all like crappy music, it's just that many of are in denial about the type of cheese we enjoy.

Its sad when just about anyone passes away but that song is on my all time hate list. I can't turn the dial fast enough when it pops
up on the radio. 70's cheese that perfectly encapsulated everything that was wrong with rock in that decade.

I was pretty sure that was a Buick emblem on the grill, but wasn't sure of the model. Quite the color, too. Can't be factory paint? Gotta love ragtops. I had a '68 Camaro, Cherry Red, white top. Sold it in '78 for $500. Aarrgghh.
