So he's supposed to be working 24/7? I guess you must really hate Dubya for taking over 2 years of vacation time during his presidency.

I seem to remember a lot of people complaining that Obama went to a Wizards game and DRANK BEER!!1!

Better he's watching Britney than gumming up Obama's plans. By all means mister Cantor, indulge your love of shiatty pop music.

So?

Cantor?

The Republican House whip who has already solved his party's and the nation's problems with "Just Say No"? His work is done.

Wait, wait, wait.. wait... wait, wait. Wait. Britney SPEARS?! She still has CONCERTS?! And people go to them?

Forget the economy, somebody needs to do something about this!

Seriously, where else are you going to get a better first hand survey of toxic assets than a Britney Spears show?

"A Cantor staffer told Wonkette: "After attending the NRCC dinner, Eric, like President Obama has been known to do, enjoyed a night at the Verizon Center. It was a bipartisan night, as Eric was joined by Senator Landrieu and other Democrats."

Ah, Senator Landrieu was not there. "

You have to love this kind of thing from the "moral majority" types. Get caught doing something embarrassing? Act self righteous and make up some lies about the Dems.

In defense of Eric Cantor, he's one of the few Republicans bringing real ideas to the table. His revenue-neutral payroll tax cut in exchange for a carbon tax is actually quite strong. Everyone gets what they want and, more importantly, can sell.

/Tax less of what you want more of (income) and tax more of what you want less of (carbon)

Fark poll. Are the boys (or girls) lining up to if-you-seek Eric Cantor?

This is stupid, and is not newsworthy. I don't give a damn what these people do on their private time if it is legal, ethically sound, and not contradictory with their policies.

Okay, maybe in this case there is a breach of taste that can be morally reprehensible, but you get the idea.

As a matter of history, Republican ideas are lousy ideas.

I don't care how smart they're purported to be; anyone who has to genuflect before Grover Norquist and Rush Limbaugh and Randtards and the Religious Right haven't exactly thought things through.

Trashy pop is cool again as long as it's slightly undergroundized. Layer on one remix by an indie band, or a DJ who nobody has heard of (or Mstrkrft/Girl Talk) and it magically becomes both listenable and respectable.

I don't care if Mr. Cantor wants to have a night out. I frankly wouldn't care if he went to a bar and got shiat-faced.

But going to a Britney Spears concert? That's a firing offense. It's almost as bad as going to see Celine Dion.

*shudder*

Oops, crazy Eric Cantor was at a Britney concert during the Obama press circus, instead of trying to do something about toxic assets or developing a stronger plan for a chaotic economy

Why would he be doing any of those things? As another Farker said a couple days ago, Republicans can't articulate a position beyond nihilism and blind opposition.

bobbette [TotalFark] 2009-03-26 07:04:36 AM
In defense of Cantor, this actually moves him up in my estimation. He's 20 years older than me, middle-aged, in an profession known for being decisively bland. At least now he kind of seems to have a personality. While he should be mocked mercilessly for that personality being dorky, I only wrote a critical-sounding headline so I could work in Toxic and Chaotic references and don't actually think he should be on the clock 24/7 (neither should Obama.)

Aren't you relieved that some Republicans don't actually sit around listening to Republican music, like Ted Nugent, or godawful country-ass anthems about supporting the troops or whatever? Or Jessica Simpson? Ewww.

I will be more impressed, though, if we can unearth anyone in Congress who likes cooler artists. So far, the only musical Congress stories I can recall are this one with Cantor as a closet Britney fan and John McCain's love of ABBA (which is also hilariously awesome.) I will give prizes:
- 1 thumbsup to any Congresstype who likes Radiohead, MGMT, M.I.A., The Clash, Tupac, or Talking Heads
- 1 terrorist fist jab to Buck 65, Goldfrapp, Hüsker Dü, Death From Above 1979, Mstrkrft, Yeah Yeah Yeahs or TV on the Radio fans
- 1 expression of total love to anyone who is a fan of Le Tigre, Peaches, or Dead Kennedys. (Congress has to be THE MOST AWKWARD place to have Dead Kennedys on your iPod.)
- 1 giant kick in the balls for any fans of Nickelback or Creed. It can't get any Wentzer than being a Congressperson and a Nickelback fan simultaneously.

Oh c'mon man, Obama has Tupac, Biggie and Beyonce in his iPod. Isn't that cool enough for you? Or do you expect it because he's black? :P

/I think Bad Religion on your iPod would be much, much more awkward than the dead kennedys, mostly for subject matter and not just the ironic context (two kennedys, both dead, yes I get it)

bobbette [TotalFark] 2009-03-26 07:23:11 AM
Obama isn't in Congress anymore, I hear he got a new job.

I think the Dead Kennedys is still more awkward than Bad Religion, not because of the location, but because of the proximity to the Live Kennedys.

bobbette: I will be more impressed, though, if we can unearth anyone in Congress who likes cooler artists.

Wouldn't it say more if they liked artists who are... y'know... good without being cool?

/Safe bet there's not a single Soilwork fan in either chamber.

I remember a particular session of Congress where a congressman was upset that families of National Guard soldiers were paying out of pocket for bullet proof vest. He suggested that Congress should stay in session til a way to fund this oversight can be found.Congress adjourned 10 min later. Now I think that's bad because something should of been agreed on before Congress adjourned because its only our troops safety we're talking about here. (Fark independent rebuttal goes here)

So what dude when to a concert where he wa drooling over Britney who could symbolize a hot friend of his daughters'. Sometime you need a break from saying no just because but next time go to a Capitals game. Alex Ovechin is a beast plus you'll look manly.

I thought Britney Spears was Republican music.

I wonder if anyone in Congress like's Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime"...

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he took his daughters, even though they're probably too old.

Nope, he went with some other congress critters. A bipartisan group. Creepy.
