The EU has a President?

Who knew?

Seriously, modmins, this kind of bullshiat headline getting greenlit is ridiculous. It's possible to be funny without being completely false, and every time one of these goes up it just encourages other meritless asshats to try and outdo the last one in falsitude and lieocity.

"Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, whose country currently holds the EU presidency..."

I guess all the Czechs are EU presidents by proxy.

He's not "EU Predident", just Czech prime minister and one who just lost confidence vote but the rest of the headline seems to be pretty accurate.

from the article:
Topolanek bluntly said that "the United States did not take the right path. He slammed the U.S.' widening budget deficit and protectionist trade measures - such as the "Buy America" - and said that "all of these steps, these combinations and permanency is the way to hell."

"We need to read the history books and the lessons of history and the biggest success of the (EU) is the refusal to go this way," he said.

"Americans will need liquidity to finance all their measures and they will balance this with the sale of their bonds but this will undermine the stability of the global financial market," said Topolanek.

It'd be funnier if the Australian PM said that, but used the word "highway"

Bonus: his last name is Rudd

Isn't this guy a global warming denier?

Also, I thought Euros were a bunch of faggy socialists. Shouldn't we want them to not like Obama's plans? That Fox News guy really confused me last night when he asked Obama about this (and the COMMUNIST Chinese).

I quit reading at "falsitude and lieocity".

Because that was the end of your statement.

Wow, for once I agree with one of the sniveling members of the EU.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2009-03-25 10:02:02 AM
The EU president is an absolute farking moron and should be taken as seriously as the dittohead Repubs because he also thinks that the New Deal made the Depression worse.

Code_Archeologist [TotalFark] 2009-03-25 10:14:13 AM
For the EU, they could be. The EU has seen the least impact from this economic crisis (robust social safety nets and significant economic regulation and control does have a use after all); and the suggestions by other nations that the EU spend more to help bail out the rest of the world is not something that they particularly need right now.

In short the lessened impact of the economic crisis on the EU means that there is less political will there to increase government spending further.

You mean the guy that was just toppled by a vote of no confidence?

/does fox news even pretend to be fair anymore?

Edsel 2009-03-25 10:20:54 AM
Note that this comes IMMEDIATELY after he received a no-confidence vote from the EU Parliament.

Trying to deflect his own/the EU's problems by pointing at someone else? It's more likely than you think!

jst3p 2009-03-25 10:21:15 AM
Most European leaders favor tighter financial regulation, while the U.S. has been pushing for larger economic stimulus plans.

I am an idiot when it comes to econ but why can't we do both?

HotWingConspiracy [TotalFark] 2009-03-25 10:21:35 AM
A day after his government collapsed because of a parliamentary vote of no-confidence,

LULZ

I'm sure conservatives will be here any minute to defend our president from attacks from a foreign leader. They're big on that.

haplo53 2009-03-25 10:21:40 AM
Well, since conservatives constantly thumb their noses at Europe, this should make them happy.

Right?

Apik0r0s 2009-03-25 10:21:58 AM
I agree with him that tighter financial regulation is needed, but the case for cash injection has been made to my satisfaction. Obama needs some political capital before he can take on Wall St. We'll see if he does, or if the ruling class will be allowed to continue its cycles of sowing, nurturing and harvesting the USA for personal profit.

Yep, sounds like he's got credibility to speak on this issue or to criticize another country's administration to me.

This guy subscribes to all the wingnut theories - There is no such thing as global warming, FDR caused the depression, etc.

He also shares the political fate of his American whack job counterparts, he was just ousted in by a vote of no confidence.

If you look above, you will see that I agreed with him.

He is saying that spending isn't the answer, that tighter financial regulation is where we should be focusing. Do YOU agree with that? The way I remember it, it was all of the laisezz faire do-nothing to regulate philosophy of the GOP that led to this mess. Am I wrong?

Do you, and your GOPee, actually agree with what this guy said, or do you just agree that Obama is wrong?

The articles critical of Obama always end up on Fox News but they never post the positive articles.

They're like Drudge, but they have hot chicks so I guess it's ok.

mrtoadswildride 2009-03-25 10:34:26 AM
He's not trying to spend his way out of the recession, he trying to install government spending policies so that when things get better they are already in place. After people got used to paying $3.00 for gas they stopped complaining about it...same principal, higher stakes.

It's like watching the movie Dave. He looks like a President, sounds like a President..but in reality is just a guy being lead around by people with agendas...Hopefully he figures it out sooner than later.

/I will back his plan 100%, when someone/anyone shows me any accountant, financial planner, credit counsel who advises their most troubled clients to spend there way out of debt.

I do find that funny. People, this isn't just a fox news story. While a stupid story in general, this came from the Ap, so it will be on Yahoo, Google, and papers all over the country. Don't act out all the normal fox butthurt.
