FTFA: "Metallica drummer and songwriter Lars Ulrich has admitted that he looks foolish playing Guitar Hero: Metallica."

He looks foolish doing just about anything he does.

You know, if you're gonna leave the net wide open like that, you shouldn't be surprised that someone shoots the puck in it.

Wow, the years have definitely not been kind to his fivehead. And making a face like Patrick Tribett doesn't help, either.

Having seen them live, I can assure Lars that he's not too swift with a real drumset either.

Lars and Metallica suck cock. So do most of their fans.

Said it before and I'll say it again- somewhere around 1992-3, someone took the ...and Justice for All Ulrich and replaced him with the St.Anger Ulrich. Two completely different drummers. The prior played interesting, off-time licks, the latter appeared to have just picked up the instrument.

Stopped listening to them after Cliff died.

I saw a (cell phone) video of Metallica playing at SXSW this past week...

On "One", the part where the double-bass drumming does that machine gun part like "drrrrrr-dit, drrrrrr-dit..."

When he played it @ SXWS, he only did a couple of hits on the bass drum, (it looks he has two bass drums at the show)...

Link

I don't understand this..I thought double bass drumming was a technique that shouldn't be dictated by how tired you are/or how tense your muscles are; that, once you get it, you could keep going as though you're walking.

Maybe he never learned proper technique, but nobody questions it because Metallica is such a successful band...

I thought Metallica was all MIDI triggers and noise gates anyway.

THIS.

I think Bob Rock locked his balls in a closet somewhere, and won't tell anybody where they are.

"I have it inbred in me how to play these songs, but then I have to sit and look at little dots on a screen and try to figure out how to play it the way it's transcribed."

This just in: Lars Ulrich is inbred.

When did Corky from "Life goes on" start playing the drums for Metallica?

Scott Ian sucks at Guitar Hero, too.

So Fred Savage is finally getting tired of playing this part?

There are only select songs where he uses double-bass to much effect, so I doubt he's mastered it nearly as well as a power metal drummer. He's also old.

That said, he did just fine on Dyer's Eve and One when I saw them a few years back

I bet he really looks foolish farking his wife Connie Brighton - if this midget wentz wasn't rich he never would have gotten her.
and no, not the connie brighton from that lame Michael Fox sit-com or 24, either, although the same comment would go for her, too.

For the record Lars' wife is Connie Nielsen. She was in "Gladiator" to name one of her movies.

God I love Scott Ian.

My favorite song of their's is a remake of a remake.

Gentlemen, I give you the master of the metal double bass, Dave Lombardo. (new window)

Lars can only hope to be this good.

Nah - for me, it was when Hagar replaced Roth.

I quit listening when John Rutsey left the band.

Lars makes it not only easy but fun to poke with sticks because he is such a douche nozzle.
Remember this (new window)?

Lars can only hope to be this good.farking awesome drummer...

And that video illustrates exactly what I was talking about. You see when he goes into double bass he is casually walking on the pedals:

Whereas Lars seems to be putting too much into stepping on the pedals and missing the hits. Lombardo is 2 years younger, btw.

Lars Ulrich, not being able to keep time while playing live? ZOMG NO WAI!!!

Srlsy, Lars sucks the big one live. Somehow that didn't detract from the show the times I've seen them live, great show, but if you go into detail, Lars takes suck beyond hoover into black hole realms...

RockNRoller227 2009-03-24 04:34:09 PM
My brother is a drummer so he pays attention at concerts and he said that Lars couldn't keep time for his life last time he saw them. He said Rob kept having to literally stand in front of the drum kit headbanging to the beat of the song to keep Lars from totally farking up.

That's good, let me offer some more amazing double bass, not just a stream of straight double bass notes but actually a more interesting figure.

(here's someone from the intarwebz playing this with a camera on his pedals... whoa)

Lars can only hope to be this good.

A gold-plated ten-foot-tall THIS. :)

I believe that the term "douche nozzle" is hyphenated. But either way, congratulations on the use of the term. Bravo.

No one does drums like Tomas Haake (new window)

And... I really like the drummer in this band (new window)... check out the machine gun at 1:20. OMG. Not the fastest thing ever, but when I saw them live the pit seriously opened up right there. (and the circle banging is \m/\m/ )

Deadwing 2009-03-26 06:22:08 PM
Interesting double bass at around 1:30 here (new window)

puddleonfire 2009-03-26 07:30:14 PM
Kevin Talley is the best metal drummer on the planet.
Lars can go suck a douche nozzle.
