Of the celebrities I've met (served), Costello is one of the most easy-going ones in memory. But what I really came in to say is that I would totally penis his wife. I might even penis him if that's what I had to do...to get to his wife.

/remake of Aguielara's (sp) "Beautiful" is fantastic
//yes, that song

It's okay, but he's done far better covers.

/likes his version of "brilliant disguise"

That may be cool, But a HERO tag? Did he record it while running up a burning building? Or perform it while landing on the Hudson?

Cool. I already have a dozen or so covers of this, and every one of them is pretty good.

In fact, most VU covers are. They're hard songs to ruin.

Duran Duran's cover wasn't too shabby.

Duran Duran's cover of Costello's "Watching The Detectives" was pretty good too.

His aim is true.

Looking forward to hearing it. I loved Big Star's cover.

Elvis Costello is MY hero.

Um, I like Elvis as much as the next person (probably more), but "Hero"?

Awesomenessabounds. I still think the solo acoustic show I saw Elvis do back in 1984 9with T-Bone opening) is the best musical performance I had ever seen. Incredible show.

Granted, he was one of my favorites at and the top of his game... got to hang with him a little bit afterward, very cool guy. His manager, Jake Riviera, not so much.

Here's a cover that doesn't get enough attention, by Big Star (pops)

I'm sure Costello's will be pretty solid, he's kept his shelf life well, all things considered.

it's not that i have a problem with costello - i don't. but this is such a self-gratifying cover. i just don't think anyone could come up with a good reason to cover a song like that unless they're really putting something special against the wall, and i don't see costello doing it. like i could see someone like fiona apple totally redefining herself with that cover, or maybe costello could do i'll be your mirror or melt faces with run run run

Yeah, everybody knows that Enrique Iglesias sang that.

FTFA: A vinyl version of the album will feature an acoustic arrangement of Lou Reed's classic Femme Fatale, along with Costello's 'sequel' to an old Appalachian murder ballad entitled called What Lewis Did Last.

Vinyl version? Fail.

Vinyl sucks.
That is all.

With vinyl and the right turntable, no CD can compare. CD's were a record company scam and built on convenience. Anyone over 40 knows that. But, then again, most people today think that mp3s sound good, so we are de-evolving.

I'm over 40, owned high-end equipment, and always hated the high maintenance of LPs. A well-mastered CD will kick an LP's thin sound any day. And, no, I don't think MP3s sound great.

His cover of U2's "Please" (POPs) is also excellent.

ha ha! vinyl sales continue to increase while CD sales plummet! I'd say the FAIL belongs to CD's

I love LP's and I have no problem with CD's either, the first CD's to come out were not mastered all that well, but these days they sound great. Also they are damn convenient and sound really clean, which is good for certain types of music like classical that have quiet parts. Sometimes the static and pops on LP's is just damn annoying. And a 320kbps MP3 sounds fine to me.

This can actually be a drawback. I have a couple of digitally recorded classical CDs. I will listen on a pair of good headphones, lost in the imagery the music evokes, and I'll hear a chair creak or a muffled cough and the whole image collapses to a bunch of musicians on a bare stage, cables everywhere, and some sound tech with plumber's crack.

Not that I don't like Elvis Costello, but why the hell is it that the fark mods green light every music thread that involves acoustic guitars?

Maybe you guys should get your balls out of your wife's/girlfriend's purse and start talking about sweet amps and loud guitars.

I think I will actually pay money for this.
/will rip it directly to mp3 as well.
//as if you can tell the difference.

He's finally doing a proper version of "Hidden Shame". It's worth picking this up just for that!
