I hope it has all 4 songs and 100 titles on it.

I must be one of the five. I'm psyched.

You know the "[a minute number of] fans" normally works for most headlines, but not this one.

pwhp_67 2009-03-23 05:18:47 PM
Right. That's how he lasted 50 years in the business; those 5 fans buy a few million records each...

Uchiha_Cycliste [TotalFark] 2009-03-23 05:25:13 PM
I know one of these days I'll finally see him. Supposedly he lives up in the hills I ride in, and hangs out in Woodside.

I'm trying to twist my brain around to make this headline funny or interesting. -1.

DEVO are fans, there's 4 right there!

450 minutes of Neil Young? That's probably enough time for him to get one note on key.

Question: Are we not fans?

Neil Young to finally release long-rumored 10-disc box set, highlighting the first ten years good part of his career

Lots of artists only have a decade of good music, writing, or whatever in them. Neil Young had Decade plus "Rockin' In the Free World."

gopher321 [TotalFark] 2009-03-23 05:54:27 PM
Southern men don't need him around, anyhow...

Southern men like their banjos and cousins tho

Greendale wasn't as horrible as everyone makes it seem.

John Buck 41 2009-03-23 06:10:18 PM
If a singer/songwriter could get a lifetime pass for one song, Neil Young could, for 'Rockin' In The Free World'.

Me too---who would have guessed 40% of Neil's fans were on Fark

One of best shows I have ever seen in my life was one man, a chair, a guitar, and occasionally a harmonica. Neil Young, Saenger Theater, New Orleans. And by "best shows" I'm including all of the bombastic arena ones or from musicians I had previously liked a hell of lot more than Neil Young. But the dude is some kind of magic. Was instantly converted.

I was at his dad's funeral a couple of years ago - Neil got too choked up to speak, picked up his acoustic guitar and played a few songs, with only his wife Pegi accompanying him on harmony in the funeral home chapel. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up to this day. People who say he can't sing have never heard the man SING.

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2009-03-23 06:20:09 PM
To be fair, if all anyone has ever heard by NY is "Southern Man," they are going to think he cannot sing.

A great artist, a great lyricist, a great arranger, a great musician, a great melodicist, but not a great singer. Not when you listen objectively.

But it fits his stuff perfectly somehow.

carmody 2009-03-23 06:20:27 PM
There are five Neil Young fans in my house right now.

Great album. The Greendale tour was awesome too.

I never knew Neil Young was a disliked but I need to remember where I am I guess.

Wrong_Intentions 2009-03-23 06:38:04 PM
The thousands I've seen at his arena shows are probably ecstatic too.

//Kinda hopes one of the discs is a just a long, wild guitar piece, a la "No Hidden Path" or "Like a Hurricane"

I loves me some Neil Young.
I love Harvest.
I love Comes a Time.
And Rust Never Sleeps.
And Live Rust.
And Re-ac-tor.
And Trans.
And Freedom.
And Ragged Glory.
And Harvest Moon.
And Arc / Weld.
He's okay by me.

Nice to know I'm one of the 20%.

Neil and the Archives Box set:Neil fans::Lucy with the football:Charlie Brown

I will believe it's been released when it's actually released, given that the release date has changed five times in the last two years.

ZAZ: Lots of artists only have a decade of good music, writing, or whatever in them. Neil Young had Decade plus "Rockin' In the Free World."

This box is supposed to cover 1963-1973, which included the time Neil spent in a band called Buffalo Springfield (and also some band with that fat guy, one of the guys from BS and a Holly).

Next one will cover the 70's stuff, which is the bulk of the Decades discs. Even if you don't like him, you've got to admit that he had at least two good decades: the 60's and the 70's.

TsuZi 2009-03-23 07:52:37 PM
Add me into that 5. Who doesn't like 'Cinnamon Girl?'

Infamous Dr. X [TotalFark] 2009-03-23 08:01:55 PM
I am also part of the 5, and damn proud of it.

"Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" was one of those high-school albums that sort of defined that bit of my life. I will definitely be purchasing this.

DrBenway [TotalFark] 2009-03-23 08:26:45 PM
I'm not of certain, but that may well be the weakest flamebait headline I've ever seen here. I would say that submitter sucks, but I imagine they couldn't manage the effort for that even.

In fairness, he did use the cool tag, so I'm thinking he's just farkin' with us.

I'm not Neil's biggest fan, but he just sold out two nights at the Garden @ $75/ticket, so submitted must be a tard.

/went to see Wilco, got a free ticket
// Neil was actually great, I enjoyed it

Wake me when Neil puts out the following:

A remastered CD of Trans, available for the US Market
The Blu-Ray of "Human Highway" (I'll even take a standard DVD for this.)
The original Chrome Dreams
Did I mention "Human Highway"?

Neil wears an onion on his belt.

People mistake his genre-shifting for creativity when it's just
adult ADD.

And believe it or not I was a HUGE fan at one time, up to and including 'Everybody's Rockin'. Trans, Re-Ac-Tor, Landing on Water, Zuma, Stars and Bars, etc, all good to great.

I'm a fan, obviously.

Saying Neil can't sing is like saying Bob Dylan can't sing. Two of the greatest artists of my lifetime and two of the most beautiful voices as well. It's not about technique, it's emotion and those are two of the best. Alternatively I hear that beyonce can look good, or something like that.

Not only that, I can sing along with Neil to Sugar Mountain and There Comes A Time in total harmony.

Dangerbird off of 'Year of the Horse' is my favorite NY track. 100x better than the original album cut IMO.

The repeating guitar figure for "Cinnamon Girl" is perhaps the most perfect thing in all of Rock and Roll.

F that. Neil Young is a national treasure, but being he's Canadian, that doesn't mean much to the US. He's still the shiat.

I've been listening to, playing and performing Neil Young songs since I was 14. I have seen him live 3 times, in 3 different states (NJ, TN, CA).

That said, I won't buy his BluRay dealie-o. Too much $$$. But I appreciate what he is doing: carefully combing and distilling his life's work so the fans have something more than just the label releases. He's old, he's gonna die soon. He wants to finish this project before he joins Old King in that pickup in the sky.
