FTA: About 30 ecologists and Communists threw condoms on the ground outside the cathedral, where worshippers were leaving Sunday mass.

Enviro-nuts littering? Oh, that never happens. BTW, I don't think these people are actually "ecologists".

Also, steel cage match, my place, Monday: commies versus religious nuts. The trick is we get them all in the cage and shoot them before anyone can even throw a punch.

Ironic as all heck, the Pope may be right on this. Condoms, at least in Africa, are causing so much high risk behavior that they are not having the effect they're supposed to, and may actually be causing HIV to spread.

There is tremendous ignorance, and likely improper use of condoms in a high risk environment. Condoms are used multiple times, with multiple partners, both vaginally and anally, etc.

You might as well use an amulet or lucky charm for disease prevention.

Considering overpopulation seems to be the single most dangerous threat to our ecology, Catholics ought to be somewhere near the top of any ecologist's enemies list.

Dude, so many African men have been practicing high risk behavior with hookers for so long, they and their wives have died from AIDS, leaving orphans, some infected with HIV.

With HIV infection rates in some African countries' populations running at over 20%, men either should wear rubbers or become priests just to stay alive.

And becoming priests has never been an impediment to sexual behavior by the clergy, so that leaves us with one option.

And if people don't know how to use condoms, then we should teach them, as we do here in this country (at least in the more civilized parts).

Sex, unless you are setting out to make a baby is a sin, as the act itself is pleasurable and therefore sinful.

Even married Catholics are not allowed to have sex for pleasure, and this is the point at which I go into the Eric Idle speech about putting whatever I want on the end of my todger because of Martin Luther.

Quoted for truth. Condoms are only as good as the education provided on their use and abuse.

I'd also like to point out the necessity of lube that so much condom promotion seems to forget. They're frickin' latex, people. You need high quality lube.

So educate the people instead of just leaving them to die of AIDS. And give them enough condoms that they're not tempted to re-use them.

People are not going to stop having sex. OK? Geez. How hard is this to understand?

I mean I know the Catholic Church forbids birth control because they want to get more adherents as time goes on, but AIDS kinda rolls back the membership.

I do believe the essential religious objections to birth control and allowing people to live openly homosexual life styles (i.e. not forced into starting a sham hetero family) is that it causes less people to be born into their churches and deprives them of parishioners - thus depriving them of power and income.

\Any misery caused by banning birth control and homosexuality is of no consequence

It works because they are savages. They didn't even have Jesus or pants until we got there and showed them, and they even managed to mess those up. You can only defend naked savages so long before you just wash your hands of the lot of them. You can only be a beacon on the road to better things...humanising, improving, and instructing...if they want these things. They don't. Time to leave the Jesus-less naked brutes alone.

Was paraphrasing "Heart of Darkness" what lost me the 1.5 or was it the "we gave them pants." Personally I'm a big fan of the "they didn't even have pants 'till we showed up" bit, when lampooning Eurocentrism.

I tried arguing the relative ineffectiveness of condoms (regarding the overall sexual culture in Africa) in a thread about this very subject yesterday. It was not well-received.

And you think that the Catholic Church telling them they're going to hell if they use condoms and offering nothing but resistance to condom education helps this?

The Pope is completely wrong about this. Condoms and condom education can help to decrease the spread of HIV.

Your argument is that they lack condom education so the pope is right that condoms don't help. It's a backwards argument because the Catholic Church has been against condom education. It would be no different than me blowing up a building with fertilizer and then claiming that fertilizer is dangerous; someone helping to create a problem and then announcing that the problem exists.

The world would be a better place if we woke up tomorrow and the Catholic Church ceased to exist.

I sent a $25 donation to Planned Parenthood in "honor" of Pope Benidict XVI - and had them send the acknowledgment card to him at the Vatican.

If Vatican City were closer, I'd be there unloading boxes of condoms in St. Peters Square. But since I'm not, this is what I came up with. Feel free to do the same.

"The acts in marriage by which the intimate and chaste union of the spouses takes place are noble and honorable; the truly human performance of these acts fosters the self-giving they signify and enriches the spouses in joy and gratitude."145 Sexuality is a source of joy and pleasure:

The Creator himself . . . established that in the [generative] function, spouses should experience pleasure and enjoyment of body and spirit. Therefore, the spouses do nothing evil in seeking this pleasure and enjoyment. They accept what the Creator has intended for them. At the same time, spouses should know how to keep themselves within the limits of just moderation.146"

Wait, so these "far-right youths" are encouraging massive population growth in Africa by discouraging condom-usage? Dude, even you link specifies the "generative function" ie, making babies.

According to the Catholic Church, all sex that's not procreative is a sin.

As to why they believe non-reproductive sex to be sinful, well that requires more theology than I'm going to post at 5AM.

But if you don't like the Church's viewpoint, I strongly suggest you take it up with your local priest, as the only way their going to alter their viewpoint is if they're pressured into it.
