Watching Obama screw up so bad, one wonders if we'll get an "our bad" from the MSM for making sure I knew how much was Palin's wardrobe budget.

Bacontastesgood 2009-03-22 11:51:09 AM
How much did she lose by? Was this the determining factor? Maybe it wasn't even close.

Is the dude who hoaxed the paper going to jail?

All in all, a pretty weak article.

4/10

see, the fact that Palin's wardrobe were truthfully being worn by her make your analogy off-base

Editor of The Sunday Telegraph, Neil Breen, published a two-page spread with articles explaining how the newspaper was the victim of a hoax,

Yeah, that poor newspaper - they were the victims, alright.

saying Mr Johnson had also claimed to have similar photographs of another prominent Australian woman.

Hrmmm.. and that wasn't enough of a hint for ya?

She was then accused of being a racist, fuelled by her maiden speech to the federal parliament in which she warned Australia was "in danger of being swamped by Asians". She was also briefly jailed in 2003 for electoral fraud.

Oh, this is just awful, she sounds like she would have been a really intelligent and compassionate leader.

Unfortunate. But as a perpetrator of voter fraud, she deserves the karmic backlash.

Yeah, but Obama, obviously having paid nothing for his campaign suits, has passed over $1 trillion in spending already. Just think how much Palin would have spent by now. It would be somewhere in the Brazilians!

Is selling fake nude photos now? This is a sad economy.

The apology - in which a Sunday newspaper admitted they were "conned" by Jack Johnson, who took the photos and claimed he was a former boyfriend of Ms Hanson - came as the political firebrand lost her bid for a seat in the Queensland parliament, ending her controversial 13-year political career.

A more interesting question is how much guys like you are paid to post. If it were my astroturf campaign bonus points would be counted for quickness after green light, number of replies, maybe the ability to make the irrational sound coherent. Since it's a RNC funded project though and those willing to do this sort of work are 'little people' you'll have to settle for be awarded Rush bumper stickers.

The results (new window) for the seat she contested (from the Australian Electoral Commission).

She would have lost anyway, as did the Conservatives who lost statewide.

Sounds to me like being photographed in a nightie might have actually helped her image. It would be like finding definitive proof that Ann Coulter really is a woman.

Right, this racist waste of space is so unpopular she couldn't even buy votes. If anything the media attention helped her out.

Some bright affluent person helped make sure she wouldn't make it into office.

And do our brave defenders of democracy even blink?

Indeed.

It's fascinating when Republican slam Democrats for using tactics that the Republicans themselves invented. Does the term "Swift Boat-ed" mean anything to you?

(And yes, I know the article in question is about an Australian politician.)

Saying the photos cost Hanson the election is an exaggeration ; she has none of the popularity she had in the mid-90's, and whilst I don't doubt the photos hurt her chances, she didn't have much of a chance in the first place.

I'm no fan of her politics at all, but the Sunday Telegraph did an incredibly irresponsible thing in publishing the photos in the first place, and not only because they were fake. Such private moments in people's lives - even public figures - have no public interest whatsoever.

FormlessOne 2009-03-22 12:47:12 PM
I'm curious - is it me, or did this part just whiz by most folks?

The far-right Australian politician Pauline Hanson has received an apology over the publication of 30-year-old raunchy photographs of a near naked woman that local newspapers incorrectly claimed were her, a day after she lost a bid for re-election.

In other words, the pictures were published after she lost. The pictures had no bearing on her re-election bid. Not to excuse the sleaze factor here, but, c'mon.

Unless those very same political figures seek to regulate the behavior said photos exemplify. The second you want to regulate or mandate something, you had better be willing to let that part of your life be picked over with a fine tooth comb. After all, if its good for the goose, THEN its good for the gander.

/Faked photos for political gain are bad.
// Defending politicians as a protected class is also bad.
