I'd say "thank f*cking God" but this kind of behavior wouldn't be happening if the men marrying these women had any balls at all. You enable them and you have no room to biatch after the eventual divorce.

It's a sign of the times during the 2001-2008 bubble.

Hopefully people will look back and realize the rampant retardation prevalent during this time period.

Anyways it's better to take all that money and spread it out. It's likely to be marriage one of three these days.

The more I think about it, the more I realize this country might need a good depression to get people back to reality about what's important and what's not. This is a good step forward.

This. Guys: A tip...DO NOT let the women of your life control the relationship. They do not know how to handle it and will eventually screw it up. Take control from the beginning...sure there may be some battles at first, but fight those battles. Set the boundries early and everyone will be much happier.

I too am glad to hear of the demise of bridezilla.

Of course, the woman I married was sensible and wanted a small service on the beach. So...

buzzvert [TotalFark] 2009-03-22 11:01:35 AM
For what it's worth, the Bridezilla phenomenon did serve a very important purpose to society... it took money out of the coffers of millions of over-fed rich-for-no-good-reason baby boomers and put it into the service industries and the economy in general. Granted, a lot of that money went overseas, but it was at the least encouraging the old rich bastards to stop clutching onto their portfolios and to dump some back into the mix by funding their little shiatterling's princess pageants.

Um, sure... instead of logically sharing power like adults, you recommend controlling the relationship? That just leads to the woman developing a complex, and then controlling the ever-loving shiat out of the kids, helicoptering the little brats into a state of complete submission and inability to make decisions for themselves. Ahhh, the circle of dysfunction.

I doubt it - there is still a whole 'nother generation that assumes they need, no, deserve a giant retarded princess wedding.

I'm not sure I mean to control them, more of if a woman displays psychotic behavior because of one f*cking day, then it is your fault for not running right away.

Marriage is supposed to be about spending a lifetime together, not the perfect day and that's it.

Can I tell you how weird they look at you when you walk into a bridal shop and say, "Do you have some hairpieces that could never be mistaken for a tiara?" Too much of their business is princess-wear. I'm an adult, and I'm getting married not playing dress-up.

You are right. Most of it is just act like an adult not a three year old. Don't whine about how things don't go your way or complain about little annoyances. Man up. If she still acts like a princess/b*tch let her go. Women are like trains, there is always another one coming down the track.

Except for the whole Keeping up with the Jones bit, where people spent massive amounts of money they didn't have by mortgaging their massively overvalued properties... Now the government wants to pay for your Bridezilla wedding.

Don't tell this to my cousin and her PSYCHO maid of honor. The bridesmaid dress has already been $150 and it is just a knee length cotton dress! And I am the only one who also has to pay to have it altered because my breasts were "distracting" in the style she chose. I can't help what my body is shaped like- And I didn't want that damn dress.

Then all the parties- There was the going away party when she moved out to be with the fiance before the wedding where the Maid of Honor demanded I "chip in" to the tune of about 50 bucks, then she wants us to chip in for a shower in HOTEL (even though my cousin has no female friends and I WON'T EVEN BE THERE!) for a budget that she feels will be about $400! This is for food , beer, wine, decorations etc. Why can't we have a regular shower at house in the afternoon like normal people? With just some light snacks and mimosas ? Its insane! I can't imagine what she wants us to spend on a bachelorette party. And she isn't even factoring in I have to fly across the country for this.

/Bride is not the problem- Maid of honor is. She is the person that is thousands of dollars in debt because she like Juicy couture purses.

My wife was a Bridezilla, so I'm definitely not getting a kick out of these replies.

Total amount we spent on the wedding was $40K for a little less than a hundred guests, and I didn't get much a say in the matter because her, her mom, and my mom colluded to pillage my pocketbook.

If I ever get married again, the next time it's going to be a civil ceremony and a Costco cake. Happiest day of my life, my ass.

It is. It's going to suck unbelievably for an undeserving portion of society (I mean they don't deserve to get jacked like this), but it seems the only way we as a society can change our course for the better is for something absolutely catastrophic to happen to us.

I'm actually glad to see you post here. Sometimes these threads get real heavy with The Smug as people talk about spending 30c on their weddings and imply it's directly related to their happiness in marriage. Thanks for the balance. :)

Tip #2: If your wife-to-be starts making $10,000s worth of narcissistic rockstar demands for your wedding/honeymoon when you two are just out of college and barely have a pot to piss in, you may want to rethink whether she's the one.

Luffans 2009-03-22 11:22:12 AM
Good. Women spend entirely too much on their weddings. I look at the average cost of today's weddings and want to puke. There are more important things to spend that money on (for example, a house payment).

My fiance and I are carefully planning our wedding so that it will be nice without breaking the bank. For instance, I'm having my wedding dress tailor-made here in Shanghai for around $100, and we're skipping the traditional (expensive) wedding cake in favor of several smaller ones. There are ways to have a wonderful wedding without going into debt, and I feel sorry for guys who get pressured into having an extravaganza that's well beyond their budget.

I am actually pretty bitter that I didn't get to have my wedding (2 huge crisis' made it fall through with 3 weeks to go but I did get legally married) I think there is a difference in being a bridezilla and paying a lot for a wedding. My wedding was going to cost a lot (10k- which I consider a lot) because there were A LOT of people coming (the first 200 people on my guest list were blood related to me alone). Regardless of those costs (food, drinks etc) I did not expect people to spend tons of money on bridesmaid gowns, or buy special shoes, (UGH I FORGOT TO MENTION THE SHOE FIASCO IN MY LAST POST) or do their hair to all look like matching barbie dolls, or all spend a fortune to get their makeup/nails/hair professionally done etc. Bridezilla is about being a coonty controlling biatch who keeps repeating "THIS IS MY DAY". It is not about how much your wedding literally costs.

Mr. Coffee Nerves [TotalFark] 2009-03-22 11:23:50 AM
One of the guys I work with married a Bridezilla. She grew up dirt-poor but HAD to have the Disney Princess wedding.

She made him sell his car to pay for the reception hall rental.

I have no punchline, other than all the guys in the wedding party would gladly line up to punch him.
