Did they have these invasions 20 or so years ago? I don't remember hearing about such invasions in Hanauma Bay or anywhere else on Oahu for that matter until fairly recently.

Are the stories I hear true about urinating on your jellyfish stings to neutralize the toxins?

They look so beautiful and light as they poot around in the ocean, but have you ever actually picked a jellyfish up? They're heavy as hell! When I take walks in the early morning up here on the beach in SF, the gulls are nomming up their breakfast of fresh jellies. I like to kick them around, it's almost like a silicone breast implant.

Let's find out. You pick up a Man'o'war and I'll piss on ye.

I don't think you wanna pick these up. Some box jellyfish can kill you.

And the pissing thing is true. My wife was stung, and a pirate pissed on her leg. It helped, she said. True story - she was on one of those booze cruises in Puerto Vallarta, and it had pirates.

I was stung by a man-o-war once when I was a kid. The lifeguard at the beach didn't piss on me, though. I got the baking soda treatment, which I remember not working all that well. The stinging eventually went away. Eventually.

must not be the same box jellies we have in Australia - you get hit by one of those and you may die before you reach the shore.

Jellyfish numbers are rising around the world due to increased pollution.

Pollution huh? Demon humans again. Shoulda known.

I believe the article sez it happens every month. Probably has for thousands of years. It must have been a slow news day for the article to be published . . .

It was this film, which features an actual jellyfish threat in Tokyo.
Now the both of us can feel all obscure and cinephilic.

You were right on the spot with the Japanese setting, but I'm keeping the internet. Sorry.

No, those warnings are posted every month here. It's kid of important to warn folks to stay out of the water during these things.

gibbon1: A man o war isn't a jelly fish.

True, but technically the man-o-war is not a single creature (three symbiotes actually).
