We know Major Tom's a junkie.

My father died in 2005. I still occasionally get things in his name, including reminders to renew his membership in the NRA. Somehow, I don't think that's gonna happen.

carrying around a dead body? what a freak.

Kareeshus 2009-03-22 03:34:35 AM
He should know better. Even that's probably not going to be able to stop the automated system. Unless he dumps the ashes in the computer.

Same thing with my dad who died in 2001, still get calls from Alburn Uni, and other things

Don't see why the second part of that headline was necessary. Would have been cooler if it was "...FARK: Father is still alive."

Dear Sir,

We just received notice that your lifetime membership to the NRA has expired. Please use the enclosed envelope to renew your yearly membership. Note: You are no longer eligible for the "Lifetime membership" option.

Thank you,

The NRA

I still get reminders for my late mother. She's only been dead since June of 2008. But still, I've sent repeated notices to a lot of these people.

I'm a junior. My dad's been dead for fifteen years, and I'll get mail for him, even though I live in a totally different state than he did. The really odd thing is I'll get mail from the AARP, even though he died about ten years before he was eligible.

Fark times 2:

article: He said: 'The consultant asked how I was feeling. I said I was OK, then produced dad's ashes and asked, "But what can you do for him?"

To all those farkers who are still getting notices of your deceased parent's appointments or whatnot, you have been living in the basement way too long.

These guys did the same thing .. but not with the dude's ashes ...

My dad died in 93, my mom in 95, my wife's grandma in 05, my sister in 06. As the sibling who stepped up, I still get mail for ALL of them.

It's not too bad, really. It's kinda like those occasional dreams where you get to chat with your dearly departed... a kinda nice way to be reminded of those who've passed.

You executed your family? That's just wrong.

Better than having a complete stranger do it.

What, was that wrong? Should I not have done that?? Because, seriously, if I had known, if any one had told me...

I came in here because I was curious if anyone had remarked on that.

Because it's not like asking the post office to forward all of a deceased person's mail to the person handling the wrapping up of the deceased's affairs is standard. Oh wait.

After my father died, mail addressed to him was still finding its way to me, even after I'd moved to a different city. Eventually I filled out an official Change of Address form in his name.

Whoops, did I write Lot 55? I meant Plot 55.

Cameron: [voice disguised] Well, we've had a bit of bad luck this morning as you may have heard.
Ed Rooney: Yeah I heard, and man, I'm all broken up, boy, what a blow.
Cameron: [disguised] Yeah. Yeah. Well, uh, it's been a tough morning and we got a lot of family business to take care of, so if you wouldn't mind excusing Sloane, I'd appreciate it.
Ed Rooney: Uh, yeah, sure, no I'd be happy to, yeah you, uh, you you just produce a corpse, and uh, I'll release Sloane. I wanna see this dead grandmother first hand.
Grace: Ed?
Ed Rooney: It's alright, Grace, it's Ferris Bueller the little twerp. I'm gonna set a trap and let him fall right in it.
Grace: Ooh!
Cameron: [disguised] I'm sorry, Ed, did you say you wanted to see a body?
Ed Rooney: Yeah, that's right, just, uh, roll her old bones on over here, and I'll dig up your daughter. You know that's school policy.
Cameron: [disguised] Oh.

Slipping round here....

Wouldn't it be a bit more easy to mail a copy of the death certificate to the Dr?

/too obvious?

I had a similar situation. My mom died in '89. 3 years later, I'm still getting notices to her from the hospital WHERE SHE DIED as well as Sears credit (they'd already been paid), and a few others. I finally started visiting the business offices in person (didn't bring her ashes though, we had interred them). It took some doing, but I finally got most of them to stop.

However, there is one upside. If you don't like telemarketers calling, you can imagine how they feel when they call and ask to talk to the person and you tell them she's been dead for years. The only problem for them is when they don't record it in their computer and they let a colleague call another time. It just gave me the opportunity to get them twice with the same info.

Totally agreed. Subby blew the headline. Especially considering when he died. The headline might have worked if it was like "father died in 1977", but, it isn't uncommon to still get mail and calls for dead relatives a few years later.

My mother died in 2001, and I got an offer in the mail addressed to her for life insurance. Notice, I did not deal with her estate and have moved twice since her death. If I had been smart, I should have filled out the application and mailed it back with one payment, a death certificate, and a claim - at worst I'd be out a little money, at best, really, really easy pay-out.

There was a guy on FatWallet that got mistakenly declared dead. After beating his head on the bureaucracy his solution was to call up and file for his own death benefit.

Same, my grandfather died in 2005 if I recall correctly and was cremated shortly thereafter.

We frequently get mail addressed to him about life insurance, the AARP, and, most amusing of all, a free cremation.

I feel so bad for people in situations like this.

At my job I sometimes get angry/sad/frustrated calls from people asking that their deceased relatives be removed from our list.

/There is no way to remove people from the list.
//Well, there is. But it doesn't work.
///Software from 1989 FTW!
