He always impressed me as such. And he wasn't a great actor either.

darkhorse23 [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 10:58:56 PM
but he still had the better voice.

ScubaDude1960 [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 11:05:25 PM
If the guy was disrupting the performance, he should have been biatched at and wheeled out. His disability is not the issue. Fark the handicapped, always demanding that the whole world revolve around them.

xlbrooklyn [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 11:08:41 PM
I can just imagine the incident. The handicapped guy was probably all like, "WTF? I rolled my crippled ass through the ice and snow to come here music and you stand up there reciting bad poetry? Boo." Yes, if I were Art, that would upset me, too, because the guy is right.

King Something [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 11:16:25 PM
I Garfunkeled your mom, Trebek!

Probably, but The Graduate and the soundtrack changed me forever. Bonus: In 1993.

SpinStopper [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 11:17:22 PM
I worked with his brother Jerry (Jerome) Garfunkel for a while. Jerry was essentially a heavier version of Art and was into Cobol, which is how we met at a company called Micro Focus ;)

TeddyBallGame [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 11:44:40 PM
Other bloggers have also confirmed the incident, calling the 67-year-old singer a 'jerk', 'arrogant' and 'ignorant'.

Seems like he handled it well. Fark the douche bag fan.

SpeshilEdjukashin [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 11:56:12 PM
The story seems a little flaky and one-sided. Was the "disabled" guy interrupting him? No details = stupid greenlight.

It was very kind of the linked article news source to use one of
the older file photo's, because this is what he actually looks like
as of June 2008...

www.radaronline.com

That being said, I could not find ANYTHING online regarding the
details of what happened. The same story in the linked article is
being repeated all over the place, but they all lack any details.

For all we know from the Subby's article the handicapped person
could have been sitting there silently as can be, the wheelchair
had a squeaky wheel, there was heckling involved, the handicapped
person has an uncontrollable gas problem with a sphincter like a
balloon knot to match, who knows.

I can't understand all the belly aching about the poor treatment of
this handicapped person by a man trying to do his job when there's
no details whatsoever regarding anything that may have caused the
reading to be halted, twice.

And what of the other...uh...50 fans/inebriated patrons? He interrupted the show to put that unpleasantness into their experience, too.

Plus, you sound like a dick.

I dunno...I think the one they used makes him look more like confirmed asshole Gary Glitter.

Honestly, there's not enough information to draw any conclusion. I mean, it seems the Daily Mail wants us to think ill of Art Garfunkel, but there's no details of what he said to the disabled audience member except for the last line which doesn't seem too bad.

It's also possible that the person in the chair wasn't being cool to the performer or his fellow fans. I mean, not everyone would have heard or seen what Garfunkel was responding to...and I assume he was responding to some kind of stimulus and not imagining things.

Well, hell, if the President of The United States can slam the handicapped on national tv and essentially get a pass from the MSM, why can't a pop singer from the late 60s/early 70s do the same in a nightclub in England? I mean, WTF?

A big ole THIS. Headline made me think it was someone mentally disabled who couldn't control himself. When I read that it was just some ass in a wheelchair, I thought "So?".

/Waaaaah, my nonfunctioning legs should make it okay for me to disrupt a performance! Waaaah!

Ever since I read this article^ about him stealing songs and generally being am arsehole, I have never had any time for Paul Simon. Before that, I thought he had maybe 2 good songs (One Trick Pony - not because of him, but Steve Gadd was farking incredible on that track - and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover). After reading that article though, fu*k Paul Simon. What a cocksucker.

NicoFinn [TotalFark] 2009-03-22 05:03:46 AM
No digais nada mal de Los Lobos.

Don't talk smack about Los Lobos. La Bamba is not the only song they've ever written. So check their other stuff, it's good. Also, La Bamba is a traditional song. They just covered it, and it was a pretty good cover.

I work in a hotel.

I have encountered my share of insane and viciously hostile "handicapped" people.

Being in the hospitality industry we bend over backwards for everyone but even more so for the disabled. These people are automatically afforded so many luxuries and benefits but so many of them are super jerks to us anyway.(often each other as well)

Based on the lack of details from this story BUT my own personal experiences, I am more likely to assume fault to the wheelchair guy.

Sorry.

being handicapped doesn't give you a license to be an annoying dick. if the crip was ruining the show for the other paying patrons throw his ass out. they came to hear garfunkle, not listen to the crip biatch and whine.
like i heard flo & eddie say years ago at toad's place to shut down an odd looking set of albino twins who were disrupting the show - "hey guys look, a science experiment from yale got loose! hire the handicapped, they're fun to watch"

mdbuff12 2009-03-22 09:49:20 AM
I remember seeing Paul Simon accept a lifetime award many years ago on behalf of the duo. In his acceptance speech he lamented that he hadn't seen Art recently and people kept asking about another reunion. Simon takes this long pregnant pause and says.........."No rush."

Your lack of knowledge of Los Lobos makes your comment silly. But it is fairly common knowledge that Paul Simon hasn't written a good song since 1976 - he's stolen quite a few, though. Oh, and his claim that he brought African music to the western world with Graceland is hilarious. What an egocentric prick.

He may not have brought African music to the western world, but Graceland is a damn fine album. As is Hearts and Bones, even though it was not so well received in its time.

Oh, and , Los Lobos makes great music. It's just that the interview makes the guy seem like an attention whore trying to cash-in on the controversy. I highly doubt that Simon's a dumbass, as he is portrayed in the interview. You know, the guy did have a highly successful career before Graceland, he's no dummy.

craigdamage 2009-03-22 11:35:04 AM
Go to wikipedia's article on Paul Simon "Graceland"
for Simon's side of the story.

Sounds like a "you snooze--you lose" type scenario to me.

Also,as a musician I would be ashamed to admit "we can't jam"
like the Los Lobos dude did.

Just because Simon didn't have anything already written and instead wanted to "jam" does NOT make him "clueless"

God I hate working with musicians who expect EVERYTHING to be written out for them!

He was probably mispronouncing "Zydeco" as a joke too.

Doctor Hooey 2009-03-22 12:00:32 PM
Don't anybody DARE be dissing Los Lobos - one of the great American bands, and they can jam like crazy - in the context of a tune. According to that article they didn't do that much, and they ended up doing it anyway. I have seen them multiple times live and they can rip your face off with the way they play
