I was wondering this as well. Even with the blunt end...the victim was hit in the head FFS - not to mention the spine and kidneys. Attacker suffered some ax fail that day.

An axe is actually a very good thing to have if guns cause too many legal issues. I keep a couple of throwing axes handy around the house and car. The cops have no problem with them and they're much more effective than a knife or pepper spray.
