Hey buddy, I pay your salary so you better treat me with respect and keep your mouth shut as I attempt to walk all over you.

I would like to formally go on record as saying that Metallica has the highest percentage of arrogant douchebagginess of any band since the Rolling Stones.

I can't wait until they start dying off.

That's your fault for living in the douchebag hipster central of Texas. And don't come at me with the lame Hugestain insult. Austin is rapidly becoming an urban sprawl type hellhole itself. The freakin burbs are stretching all the way to Kyle, Texas. It's really growing fast!!

sxsw???... saw a great punk show(STAR FARKING HIPSTERS) at a secessionist tattoo shop in Austin last night.GREAT.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't sarcastic enough:

Often, visiting simpletons will assume that everyone in a city has their wages paid by tourism. Stupid shiat like "I pay for your salary" or "Your city would be nothing without my cash" comes out of the mouths of these simpletons.

Bullitt 2009-03-21 01:52:56 PM
It was pretty much the worst-kept secret in Austin. The line to get into Stubb's has been huge all week long.

Glad I'm back in Houston...

Well he is overly fond of the wahhhh pedal. I don't know how, but it seems Hammett has digressed. His solos used to have a little more substance to them. Now they're like 95% wank as opposed to maybe 75% in the past.

Smart kid.

I miss old Austin. (Everyone's running to) Club Foot, Raoul's, walking down 6th with a beer (and/or a joint) and not having to worry about the police or assholes...

Architecture Of Aggression 2009-03-21 02:55:53 PM
anyone who "catches" Cursive is really, really dumb.

Likely the same simpletons who use it as some sort of excuse when inconvenienced by government affairs or law enforcement.

This is the lamest stunt ever for a band trying to stay relevent.

'Look at us! We're Metallica! We're playing at an 'alternative music festival'! We're still important! We're still 'down' with the kids!'

GMAFB, asshats.

The fact that the organizers let this happen shows that SXSW is officially out of it.

Metallica should be ashamed of themselves but then wentzs like Lars seem to have no shame.

Architecture Of Aggression: hmm try again

Austin Powell of The Austin Chronicle says he's received confirmation from the METALLICA camp that the metal superstars will indeed be playing Austin's legendary venue Stubb's on Friday, March 20 at 10:00 p.m. (new window)

did SXSW organizers announce it? then it wasn't an 'officially announced' performance. widely expected, even reported on by local journalists... but not officially announced.

/i don't really care this much

Didn't Metallica mark the unofficial end of Lollapalooza?

Perhaps if you want to kill something cool off, invite Metallica.

DarKrow 2009-03-21 08:49:31 PM
While Metallica was playing Stubbs, DEVO was playing another venue in town. Three guesses who had the better show.

/DEVO opened for Metallica at Lollapalooza 1996, too.
//Dicks that they were, Metallica wouldn't let DEVO use their lights.
///And DEVO still put on a better show, I'm sure.

Metallica are hacks. I saw The Bronx AND Circle Jerks today for farking free. Austin rules.

If you want to see a real sprawling hellhole of suburbia, go to Houston or Dallas. You know what's fun to do in those cities? Pack your shiat and get the fark out, that's what.

I've liked Metallica for quite a while now, and recently saw them on their latest tour. They sort of sucked, very disappointing.

RagingLeonard [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 11:35:58 PM
SXSW has sucked for years and this Metallica stunt proves it.
I remember when SXSW was actually a venue for unsigned bands, now it's a way for record companies to push their latest product.

I remember standing on the side of the stage as the Hickoids played the Ritz. My head was full of acid and the tracers of the flying hay bales were beautiful.

I also remember sneaking into see a showcase with The Jesus Lizard, Helmet, L7,

But I digress...

There are still hundreds of unsigned bands playing SXSW, some of them are very good. Just because a couple of the time slots are taken up by washed up bands looking for publicity or bands hand-picked by computers in LA, doesn't mean there isn't a lot of "undiscovered" talent playing in the city.

Here's an article about the party that we threw on Wednesday to combat exactly what you were talking about:

http://blogs.suntimes.com/derogatis/2009/03/sxsw_2009_11_am_to_5_pm_wednes.html

/I'm not Tom Schraeder, he's the singer/songwriter I play with.

antihuman 2009-03-22 06:04:35 AM
I saw Behemoth at Stubb's last summer. Great show.

/I saw Barney from Napalm Death at that show then I saw him again at the Suffocation/Carcass show in September. For somebody who I thought lived in England he sure is in Austin a lot.

Jamdug! 2009-03-22 01:49:02 PM
The SXSW website says Stubb's was slated for a Metallica Guitar Hero competition. That's pretty funny.

Right before Bonnaroo, Metallica played a tiny club just up the street from me called the Basement. It was a fan club show, and the club maybe held 100 people. I remember driving by and seeing "Metallica" on the sign and thinking it was a joke.

I'd like to send a big "fark You" to Metallica, and Stubbs for having them -- which prevented my seeing Silversun Pickups.

Sounds like the douchebag award here belong to the snotty Austin residents.

TSE 2009-03-24 04:30:54 PM
As an Austinite (20 years) who recently attended SXSW, I'd like to say this:

FARK YOU, PUSSIES! I HAD A BLAST!

Go back to the old folks home or wherever it is you came from... the world was busy having fun while you were at home picking scabs and listening to whatever you listened to while you cried about how cool SXSW and Austin "used to be".
