Are they trying to set a record for fastest backtracking?

Hah, this is a fairly big special election too. The Repubs hold an advantage in membership in that district, but this guy has been badly losing his lead in the last couple of weeks. If Tedisco loses, expect Steele to lose his chair too.

It's hilarious that the fate of a man who kowtowed to Rush has his fate in the hands of another kowtower. I can't imagine that aligning oneself with Rush does much good in New York.

/Steele loses his job no matter what happens

If they ouster Steele in under six months, two things:

1) They all but admit that he was nothing but a calculated political stunt, the GOP's metaphorical midget-with-a-broom.
2) They may as well dissolve at the national level, because they're done. They've just proven that the national party has no functional leadership, both at the executive level and at the committee level.

There was always the outside chance that they would've laid low, drawn as little attention as possible, and structured their position so that they might make gains in '10 and '12 off the inevitable failures of the Dems. Instead, we finally get to see what's past full retard.

this is the face of the 'new' Republican party. they're purging the traitors, the weak and the ideologically impure. once the internal dissent is gone, then a new and stronger Party will rise from the ashes and look towards the future!

It's almost as if Rush Limbaugh is the conservative Messiah.

if i was a republican, i'd come out against rush merely for the free publicity. it would be pig pile city. instant name recognition.

Why do Republicans keep proving the Democrats right? Rush Limbaugh is their leader. That should scare the fark out of everyone in America. No dittoheads, not because Rush is just sooooo right about everything that people fear he'll bring down their nefarious left wing plans. Rather, we should be afraid or at least disgusted that in the two party system that controls our country, one party blindly follows that farking idiot.

You know, when the White house and the Dems first said that Rush was the most powerful and leading voice of the Republicans, I'm pretty sure they were joking.

But I'll be damned if it didn't come true. He really is! This batshiat crazy, off-his-rocker political psychotic has more power and influence than any single Republican in Congress, and he's driving them straight into the ground.

I'm loving every minute of it!

jake_lex [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 02:59:24 AM
This is why when Republicans play the "Why is Obama wasting so much time attacking Rush?" card, I laugh. He's not really spending any time on this. At most, what the Democratic party did is throw out a quick line and let the Republicans tear themselves to pieces over it.

The reason the whole "Rush is the leader of the GOP" line keeps traction is that the Republicans have seemed to have verified it. Everything they've done since then has made the case for the Democrats without them doing a bit of work.

King Something [TotalFark] 2009-03-21 03:12:47 AM
It almost seems as if they've drawn numbers to see whose turn it is to say something that is less than 100% praise of Rush and apologize less than 24 hours after such statement.

I'm baffled. Rahm Emmanuel trolled the GOP, and they fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Everyone pointed and laughed at the first guy who got trolled. The news talked about how he was trolled.

Then ANOTHER one, the RNC chairman no less, fell for it again! And another one!

Tedisco hastened to add that Rush is an exceptionally good looking man, one with immense charm, intelligence and a rugged masculinity. He tugged his forelock and sputtered nervously that he would be immensely honored to give Lord Limbaugh a foot rub the next time he is fortunate enough to be in his presence.

Rush reportedly nibbled on a chocolate covered cherry and said he would think about it.

I want a Republican to stand up and say "F*ck Rush Limbaugh. He is divisive and his morals are arbitrary. The man literally seems to make it up as he goes along. Is President Bush in power? EXECUTIVE POWER IS PARAMOUNT. Is Barack Obama in power? EXECUTIVE POWER MUST BE LIMITED. Rush Limbaugh, and any other partisan media hack that seeks to disenfranchise the lot in the name of their narrow view of Americanism, need to be ridiculed or preferably ignored by the mainstream discourse. The man has power for one reason: because he is on the air during working hours. That is his only qualification."

That Republican, I may vote for.

I am thinking in the time of crisis the party with half-baked ideas is going to be a better choice than the party with no ideas every time.

Even if they are not particularly effective, at least it shows a willingless to identify, confront and then get one's ass kicked by the issue at hand.

The GOP reaction to Rahm's lone remark about Limbaugh reminds me of nothing so much as this.

ejksdesktop.homelinux.com

Other brave Demotrolls have been doing their parts of course, gently goading the GOP along into self-immolating madness. And behind it all, Troll Master Obama sits exchanging looks with the provocateur who tricked the GOP into tearing itself apart as they offer a toast to Rush, without whom this would not have been possible.

Oh, it's Tedisco. I might have known. He already tried straddling on the stimulus, so it figures this was coming too.

Lordy, he's running a stupid campaign. Between him and Sweeney three years ago, Gerry Solomon is spinning in his grave. I could give a fark what Tedisco thinks of Limbaugh one way or the other, but since he's an Albany Republican of long standing it's impossible for him not to be a weasel.

Limbaugh wouldn't be on one of the top-rated stations in Tedisco's district (WGY) if he was meaningless, and it would have been perfectly defensible for Tedisco to have said he has to consider his district's voters before Limbaugh, and having voted for Gillibrand twice they've been a bit more liberal than Rush. Instead Tedisco painted himself into a corner. Putz.

Normally I'd say "screw it" and vote libertarian, but the only reason I'm still voting for Tedisco is to get him the hell out of Albany. A guy who can't get any effective shots in on a piece of crap like Shelly Silver is useless. The state GOP needs serious housecleaning.

Promoting someone to where they can do the least damage rarely works. It typically has the opposite effect.

I figure he'll only be in Congress for 18 months. The district has a low tolerance for people who make fools of themselves in public, and although I voted for Gillibrand I'm not going to vote for a Democrat whose position on the issues is "hey, whatever Barack wants".

EmmaLou 2009-03-21 07:24:49 AM
Rush is meaningless. Why are we even talking about him? The way conservatives talk, you'd think he's the second coming of Christ.

Not to pee on your bushes, but the GOP is actually alive and well. We are having an open debate about what we are and what we represent. Despite your self richeous smugness and that warm, center of the herd feeling all of you have, we don't want to be like Democrats, except maybe just a little different.

There are single issue voters we have to keep active, you know for us it's the anti abortionists, for you it's the global warming whackos, we have "on air personalities" Rush is the king no doubt, you have Oberman and John Stewart;

But, now I will go slowly for you, we are a long way away from "toast".

Eventually, you will run out of hauling money and as compelling a reason to vote as "The first black President". Your ground game is moonshine.

We can get people out with "Your way of life is threatened", you won't.

All this noise you make in these threads is clapping in an empty room.

It's good to be a republican today.

What's so bizarre is that these guys, and I mean the rank and file GOP, has such a golden opportunity. All some backbencher, first term Congressman has to do is go around pointing out the, I don't know, top ten most disgraceful things Limbaugh has said and refuse to back down.

I bet it would take surprising little backbone. One or two tough weeks of holding your ground and, presto, you're the new moderate, non-stupid face of the party.

Just a theory.
