I am in a bowling league (5 pin) and one team has 2 downs syndrome young men on their team, to make a long story short we got our asses kicked bad. It was the most fun we had all season losing to them.

Wouldn't the Special Olympics bowling champ beating Obama at bowling just prove Obama's point?

Pretty much. It's not like he said "You know, I'm not a great bowler, but I could kick those Special Olympics retards' asses!"

You know, I have a sneaking suspicion that the President would gladly live out the rest of his life without having anyone prove or disprove this particular point.

You think the SS is going to trust a tard with a bowling ball around the President?

How big of him to take a break from his post as CEO of AIG.

Bowling Ball + Retard Strength is not a good combination.

This would be a rather classy way for him to get out of his rather idiotic statement.

But he better loose :)

cranberryzero [TotalFark] 2009-03-20 11:58:24 AM
i remember in high school, we went bowling every now and again as part of p.e. and there were these two retarded guys in my p.e. class that regularly beat the shiat out of everyone else at bowling. it boggled the mind.

DO IT!

I do a lot of volunteer work with Special Olympics. One of the things I do is chaperone athletes during our State Games every summer.

One of the most "coveted" assignments is to chaperone bowlers (mainly because it's inside - since Ohio in the summer is not fun).

The few times I've been with the bowlers, it's been a blast. Some of those guys/girls bowl in "real" leagues, they are that good.

/Obligatory, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Strange, I seem to be missing the outrage at Obama here. No calls for his resignation?

NikolaiFarkoff [TotalFark] 2009-03-20 12:15:40 PM
At least nobody is arguing about it on the Internet.

Actually, didn't he say he was like a retard out there? So, he'd have to bowl the same score.

I mean, I guess you could be a retard for being worse than a retard. But there has got to be a more offensive label to throw upon one's self.

That sounds like a lot of fun.

Also, when he has some special olympics participants at the White House for some photo op...which you know is already scheduled...it will be staged, lame, and incredibly stupid. And, he'll get railed on it for another day or two.

I would've liked him to apologize himself instead of someone else releasing a statement about how the President felt.

I can't wait for the inevitable Fark thread about the Whitehouse Retard Bowling Extravaganza.

Sorta like when GW Bush used to mispronounce things. He's the only one who ever did that.

bulldg4life: I would've liked him to apologize himself instead of someone else releasing a statement about how the President felt.

He called the President of the Special Olympics on the plane ride home and personally apologized. Does that count?

But the White House realized they stepped in it. Quickly. On the plane ride home, Obama called the chairman of the Special Olympics, Tim Shriver, to apologize.

"He expressed his disappointed and he apologized in a way that was very moving. He expressed that he did not intend to humiliate this population," Shriver said Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Or make up new words on the fly. He's the only one that ever did that.

Wait...he IS the only one that ever did that. The only President, anyway.

The last thing Lincoln heard was a made-up word, so it's pretty dangerous.

I can see John Kerry now: he's hoping Obama loses so he won't be the only Democrat to lose to a tard.

We never had an elected president before that made the illiterate inbreds of the Appalachians think that "Hey, if that guy can be president, why can't I? I'm clearly just as smart as him."

Ford, of course, does not count as he was not elected.

At least, not a sick one.

The Whitehouse did not respond to a challange by TMZ? Shocking.

Part of being developmentally disabled is having a severe deficit in adaptive behavior. Bowling requires no adaptive skills whatsoever. The pins are always in the same spot, the ball's the same, the lane, everything. This is right up their alley.

Well, if you get challenged and then comment back, it is definitely on.

I think Obama would come out ahead if he invited the Special Olympics bowlers to come bowl at the White House.

What did the teleprompter say to do? Does he have to shake it like an eight-ball to get an answer?

DarnoKonrad 2009-03-20 02:37:21 PM
You're in for it now Obama. You suck at bowling.

I say do it, with round 2 being teleprompter reading -- you'll make up for your pitiful score there.

Lenny_da_Hog 2009-03-20 02:38:57 PM
That's. Beautiful.

Are you going to make another relevant joke? Something making fun of American Idol next? Maybe you have some ICHC pictures to post?

Well, you know what they say: Voting for B. HUSSEIN Obama is like bowling at the Special Olympics...

You guys, the teleprompter thing is totally this close to sticking. Just a few more repetitions, and you'll seal the deal.

Only if the other athletes get to be the people typing/running the teleprompter that the other athlete is reading from. Now THAT would be awesome.

I hate to be "that guy" -- but Dear Mr. Guy with "lessened abilities": We've all seen Obama bowl. We all know he sucks. It's an unfair comparison between his and your abilities, much less most Special Olympians'. I bet he's be happy to school you in some hoops, though.

I heard he was reading off a teleprompter during the Leno appearance. That Special Olympics remark was pre-planned.

/amidoingit --- uh -- uh -- right?

GAT_00: We never had an elected president before that made the illiterate inbreds of the Appalachians think that "Hey, if that guy can be president, why can't I? I'm clearly just as smart as him."

Bush had two things working against him:
1. Dyslexia... he'd read the teleprompter wrong and go with it because of...
2. Decisiveness... to a fault. If the teleprompter hung up or he was speaking extemporaneously, he wasn't one to pause, consider, and speak. He skipped to (C).

Obama is the exact opposite, which is why he always says "uhhh." He carefully chooses his words because he doesn't want his presidency to be characterized by small but overblown, oratory mistakes and even more so he doesn't want to give any ammo to the naysayers. See where it got him last night? We're going to see the end of Obama on talk shows and the like soon.

Good.

During high school, I volunteered at the Village of Progress, working with handicapped adults. There was a time in the afternoon set aside for physical activity, and I was there leading up to the Special Olympics, so usually we did "training" for that. One day we went bowling.

The state special olympic champion was in our group. Easily went over 200 every time. It was surreal to watch, he had the exact same movement every time from picking the ball up to returning to his seat.

I was assigned to help the wheelchair athletes. I set up a ramp, aimed it, put the ball on it, asked them if they liked how it was aimed, and then helped them push the ball off the ramp. I did pretty good.
