OBJECTION!

No Florida judge helped decide the Florida nonsense. SCOTUS made sure of that.

I don't think "it's cheaper" is how the whole balance of powers thing works.

Aernis 2009-03-20 04:57:25 PM
It's cheaper than contracting the job out to Diebold.

He didn't decide anything; that was the SCOTUS, dumbassmitter.

gadian [TotalFark] 2009-03-20 04:58:15 PM
Well, if more judges would use that power for "You're being a whining idiot attention whore and no one cares about your 'suffering'. Get the fark out of my court room, pay the other guy's legal fees, and call off the press" rather than "The bible (or other indoctrination text) says this is true so I'm going to make it happen" then i would be cool with this.

The Florida Supreme Court judge wasn't even supposed to be there today.

In the greatest of ironies, those people who tell anti-Obama Farkers "Get over it, you lost." from the '08 election (like submitter) still can't get over their butt-hurt over Al Gore losing the '00 election.

Gore didn't lose the election.

Yes, I know you thought you were gonna be bad and school us. Thought I'd correct your mistake.

It was all Nader's fault wasn't it?

Yeah, I thought I should also voice in here....

There is a stark difference between those two elections. Obama won the election by 10 million votes and neocons are being "butt-hurt" and obstructionist. People, myself included, are still up set at the Bush '00 win because of its dubious circumstances. It was decided by the supreme court with a landmark ruling. Furthermore the margin in FL was so close that many statisticians believe that Gore actually won.

HUGE difference.

No actually it was decided by the voters of Florida using Florida election law in place at the time. To put it simply the SCOTUS said there were rules, the rules had been followed, and you can't change the rules after the fact.

varmitydog 2009-03-20 06:14:20 PM
The Florida Supreme court did play a huge role in 2000 presidential elections; by being so freaking sorry that the SCOTUS had to step in and take it over. Link

Now this same group of bozos want to take away the power of the clerks of the court, who not only serve as the clerk to the court system and their needs but also take care of all the record collecting (deeds, marriages, liens, etc) and are the auditor of the county governments they are in. It is basically a deregulation of the way that the legal system is run in Florida.
The money that the judges collect in fines and court costs would be the basis for their own funding. And the personal employees of each judge would be responsible for keeping records. The potential for fraud is enormous.

Further complicating the matter, even though judges in Florida are elected, at least half of them are appointed by the governor and due to some legal etiquette that I don't really understand, many of them are never opposed in future elections throughout their entire career as a judge. And the Supreme Court of Florida is notorious for their mercy in corruption cases regarding Florida judges and State's attorneys. So not only is the potential for fraud great, the potential for ridding ourselves of the fraud would have to go through the very same group perpetuating the fraud, a group that has spent years perfecting it's own unaccountability.

I'm willing to let it go and I invite others to do the same. Move on, if you will.

However, I do think this is the sort of reaction you should only expect when the Sec of State, the person in charge of counting the votes, was also the chair of the Florida Bush Campaign. Huge appearance of impropriety than only fuels skepticism. I still can't wrap my head around how anyone thought that was OK.

Regarding TFA, I agree with the 2 former justices who wrote it.

The 2000 election set the gold standard of butthurt and crazy.

The "Obama's fake birth certificate", "anti-Obama" crowd can't hold a candle to the "Bush lost" crowd. These people are still crying about it going on 10 years.

Liberal tears have nourished us for almost a decade. If butthurt in this thread is any indication they will continue to nourish us for years to come.

Indeed, elections mean nothing except for which party is victorious and gets to hold it over the heads of fellow Americans.

Who gives a fark if the country was mangled economically and its foreign credibility is completely in shambles as a result of a disastrous foreign policy?

After all, a voter roll purge is a perfectly legitimate method to influence an election, especially if your baby brother is the governor in that state.

Huh?

I don't remember a 'President Gore', do you?

He lost.

The FSSC kept changing the rules by which votes were counted and the the USSC slapped them down for doing so.

Also, no matter HOW many times the Florida votes were counted, Bush still won the state.

Even the NYTimes admits this, along with NBC,CBS,ABC, UPI etc etc etc; all the members of the consortium put together to look at teh process.

I voted Nader in 2000, was living in Nebraska at the time. So (i) I didn't throw my vote away and (ii) given the political system in NE, no matter how many votes 'third parties' get, they get matching funds for next year's election. Therefore, my vote for Nader in 2000 mattered.

2004 ... John Kerry? LOL

So then we can blame Presidents Gore and Kerry for the clusterfark people are blaming on Bush? I mean seriously, wtf were they doing for the past 8 years??

Stop it. The whole butthurt thing isn't classy when they do it either.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2004/01/the_myth_of_the_stolen_electio.html (new window)

"It is ironic that among the angriest of those who charge that Bush's election was illegitimate, are many who did not even support Al Gore for President. Michael Moore has made the 'stolen election' a core element of his books and speeches since 2000. Yet Moore was an advocate for Ralph Nader, who won over 92,000 votes in Florida in 2000. Had Nader not run, or prominent leftists like Moore not supported him, perhaps enough Nader voters would have trickled over to the Gore column to enable him to win Florida. The anger over the 'stolen election' in many cases may be deflected guilt over some sense of responsibility for allowing Bush to win."

and

"The conclusion from all this is pretty clear. Florida had a very close election for President in 2000. It was so close that it was almost a tie. But by every official count that was made at any time during the 37 day recount period, and using virtually every consistent method for counting 'undervotes' that was considered after the election, Bush won Florida and the Presidency. I will say it again. Bush won Florida. He did not steal it."

lots of interesting stuff in the middle ...

Talk to me if they are still doing it 8 years from now, like all the liberal idiots.
