Did I miss the mandatory "looky here" that's supposed to punctuate every Stax/Volt song at some point?

I've heard that Sam & Dave had to take a tailor on the road because their athletic stage show shredded their suits night after night.

Sam Moore is alive and well and living in Scottsdale, Arizona.... Dave, not so much.

Real Soul, real music, real talent. Not one bit of bling, clothing line, or personal branded scents and vodaks, I miss it.

That came on a couple of weeks ago here on Georgia Public TV (membership drive). I had heard Sam and Dave but had not seen them live. DAMN!!! Them brothas can get down! I had read somewhere that Otis Redding (no stage slouch himself) hated going on after Sam and Dave because they would just blow the farking stage up. After seeing that it makes sense.

Seeing a young Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn was amusing.

Love this song.

Booker T. and the MGs=most awesomest rhythm section EVAR. Motown's Funk Brothers are also strong contenders for that title.

I was picking thru the dregs of clearance stuff at Circuit City a couple of weeks ago and found this DVD. A bargain at twice the price I paid for it.

The Meters?

(as a backup band, no one beat the funk brothers... no one!)

Interesting note about Booker T... he has a music degree from Indiana School of Music. Composition, I think.

Yep. Watch it again. It's there, and it's awesome.

I will never in my wildest dreams be as cool as either Sam or Dave. For one thing, I'm white. That pretty much covers it.

Love this song.

on a related note, one of my favorite little jokes in The Blues Brothers is when they first get pulled over by the cops (before the mall destruction scene) they are listening to Sam and Dave singing "Soothe Me" - and the dialog is perfectly (or close to it) timed to come in between the beats of the song.

//fantastic.

dogcow69 [TotalFark] 2009-03-20 09:30:01 PM
fun fact, the song was written by isaac "chef/shaft" hayes and a guy named dave porter. Porter is interviewed for a BBC show on soul music and he repeated the story behind how they wrote this. Hayes was at the piano working on the verses and porter got up to take a leak. Hayes began to make some progress on the song and yelled for porter to hurry up. Porter yelled back "Hold on I'm coming!".

Underrated by whom?

The guy gets TONS of respect and well deserved, too.

Great song, excellent version, too! Never heard it stretched out.
And yeah, the 'tailor on the road' thing is true.

Hayes wrote a LOTS of Stax/Volts hits, all of which escape me.
