Australia is the new Florida. Hard to believe that a judge that was this much of a complete a-hole was not from the Sunshine State. Story would make a great TV movie.

I can see your point. What is the value in being a national treasure if you have to be treated like the non-treasures?

Roquefort 2009-03-20 04:28:33 AM
There is no real value, it's just a meaningless, vain trophy title that you'd be better off aiming for in any given mmo.

He retired after 15 years as a Federal Court judge in 2001 and took on selected cases such as the wrongful detention of Vivian Alvarez Solon and Cornelia Rau. (He would declare he was acting pro bono but later charged the federal government $72,783.33 for his work on the Solon case.)

Makes you wonder what other matters he's been a tad shady with...

Funny story:
My 65 year old mom was once pulled over for doing about 100 mph on I-10 near Tallahassee by a young black State Trooper, she told him that she was running from a group of Rednecks in a large white pickup that were road raging and throwing beer bottles at a black man in a red Mercedes.
The trooper was not at all amused at her racist sob story and proceeded to furiously write her a major ticket, until the red Mercedes shot by, followed closely by the pickup.
His last words to her; "You have a very nice day mam", as he ran for his car and tore up her ticket.

I was like heh... until:

Another figure to emerge in what rapidly became a legal circus was prostitute Marie Christos.

One of her clients was Einfeld's first solicitor, Michael Ryan. While rifling through his rubbish bin for proof he was lying about having an affair with another woman, Ms Christos found documents relating to the Einfeld case. She then took them to police - and the media.

Ms Christos announced she would wear a new dress for every day Einfeld was in court and once confronted him with TV cameras rolling and announced: "Hello Marcus, I'm Marie Christos, Michael Ryan's prostitute."

Mr Ryan would resign from the case, quit as a partner at McClellands Lawyers and leave the law altogether.

Oh WOW.

The funny thing is that in all of that mess, the only question I have is "why would a prostitute be jealous of a guy farking another woman?"

And the Florida tag applies even to people's names. That was an awesome story. What ever became of the chase?

perhaps not so much jealous as pissed off about someone stealing her customers? i would be willing to bet the solicitor for a former supreme court judge was a good payer cashcow.

The beauty of an activist judiciary: a group that believes the ends justify the means.

Bitter Barn 2009-03-20 07:23:09 AM
I don't get the Marie Christos thing. Who calls themselves a prostitute? And why taunt Enfield? Why should it bother the guy if his lawyer had a prostitute?

So seriously, what's with her? As far as I can figure, she has even less of a reason than Paris Hilton has for being famous. At least Paris has an interesting family history.

-Funny, when I googled her, her LinkedIn page (god I hate LinkedIn)shows her as working in the Recreational Facilities and Services industry.

If only this could become a trend in the states.

This is the way the news media should function. Rather than printing press releases.

OscarTamerz 2009-03-20 07:45:29 AM
When the federal government - and particularly Philip Ruddock - attacked the "activist" judiciary, it was often because of Einfeld's rulings in immigration cases.

When judge Ruth McColl of the NSW Supreme Court was president of the NSW Bar Association, she said Einfeld's judicial method was "results-oriented" and that he was never in "the judicial mainstream".

He sounds like he was for illegal aliens and much like our own activist judges that struck down prop 187 helping to bankrupt California. Obeying the law, much like paying taxes, is just for little people. And a dirty judge is very much in the judicial mainstream.

True story:

This past week my Mom goes shopping with a friend. Her friend drives. My Mom, who is older, is having a problem getting the seat belt snapped. They soon get pulled over for not having a front license plate. Young cop sees my Mom does not have her seat belt fastened. She says she has been trying to snap it, but cannot get it to work. He tries and also fails. Owner claims it worked last time someone sat there. He gives my Mom a $127 ticket for not wearing her seat belt and because the truck only had 2 seat belts in the first place, tells my Mom she has to get out of the car and stand on the side of the road and get another ride. She calls my Nephew, who fixes the seat belt in about 30 seconds, and my Mom is back on the road, along with a $127 ticket. The driver gets a $25 ticket for no front plate.

Thanks a-hole cop. You just gave a $127 ticket to an old lady who squeezes by on less than $700 a month. The part that really pisses me off is that once my Nephew got there and fixed it, he could have given her a warning instead of the ticket because there was an obvious problem with the seat belt.

I am not saying she did no wrong, but still.

Not only that, but you also have to deal with being pestered by Nicolas Cage all the time.

So enforcement of laws should only be done based on your economic status? Bullshiat.

She broke the law and was properly cited for the offence. Tell her to go to court and explain her situation to the prosecutor. He may drop the charge.

¨This¨is what passes for a national treasure in Au'land! What about Mick Dundee. Or, that tweaker what got et up by the alligator. I guess he doesn´t qualify because he´s daid.

Enough of my impressions of aussie speak.

I had some further caustic comments on their treasures. However, I caught the guy elected president on Leno. We, in the states, have no right to be critical of other countries.

Mom needs to go to court, subpoena the pig, and say ¨when my friend saw the officers lights, she pulled over and stopped. At that time, I unfastened my seatbelt. I don´t know why I did that. I had it fastened when the car was moving though.¨ Friend needs to say that there was a plate on there the last time the car was used. Someone must have stolen it in the interim. Go to court, chances are the creep won´t show. Also, tell the Judge what a rude cop they have on their force. He made lewd comments towards us. Two elderly ladies against one porker.

It is a rotten system, simply revenue enhancement. It doesn´t deserve the truth. Cops don´t deserve respect.

It is what ¨judge¨Einfeld would do.

By the way, was the good ¨judge¨Bernie Madoff´s rep down under. Just asking.

THIS

Malfunctioning equipment is not an excuse and neither is the ability to pay a fine. She should have called her nephew before risking the ticket.
