It was, indeed, a wonderful world with Louis in it.
I'm primary a metal musician, but I've grown to appreciate the masters in each genre of music of which these 2 definately are.
/thanks for posting this, smitty

Wow--that was great, and I don't even like jazz all that much.

Some hot, nerdy 50's chicks in that audience too!

Very cool.

The crowd seemed pretty tame, especially when compared to the near-riot that broke out two years before at the end of Duke Ellington's set.

WTF @ the chick at 8:45. She was wiggin' out on some bad shiat.

Man... things got a little damp for the chick at 4:23. I think that is what's happening anyway. I've never caused a woman to do things like that.

I just did a search for "top songs of 1958". I figure I would have been a square in my dad's era, so I wanted to see what the popular songs were:

1.
At The Hop Danny & Juniors
2.
It's All In The Game Tommy Edwards
3.
The Purple People Eater Sheb Wooley
4.
Don't Elvis Presley
5.
Tequila Champs
6.
All I Have To Do Is Dream Everly Brothers
7.
Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare) Domenico Modungo
8.
Sugartime McGuire Sisters
9.
He's Got The Whole World (In His Hands) Laurie London
10.
The Chipmunk Song David Seville & Chipmunks
11.
To Know Him, Is To Love Him Teddy Bears
12.
Witch Doctor David Seville
13.
It's Only Make Believe Conway Twitty
14.
Hard Headed Woman Elvis Presley
15
Poor Little Fool Ricky Nelson

Not bad, now the top songs when I turned 18, 1986:

1. That's What Friends Are For, Dionne Warwick, Elton John, and Gladys Knight
2. Say You, Say Me, Lionel Richie
3. I Miss You, Klymaxx
4. On My Own , Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald
5. Broken Wings, Mr. Mister
6. How Will I Know, Whitney Houston
7. Party All The Time, Eddie Murphy
8. Burning Heart, Survivor
9. Kyrie, Mr. Mister
10. Addicted To Love, Robert Palmer
11. Greatest Love Of All, Whitney Houston
12. Secret Lovers, Atlantic Starr
13. Friends And Lovers, Carl Anderson and Gloria Loring
14. Glory Of Love, Peter Cetera
15. West End Girls, Pet Shop Boys

Popular music has really gone down hill!

She starts at 3:11 and goes until 8:45. Either a 5 minute plus orgasm, or multiple.

It's fun watching repressed white kids let it all out in those old clips. That's years of uptight sexual repression beinbg let go in minutes.

Oh, and the music was really good.

Existential Angsty: They had colored video in 1958?

They did. Colour videotape was introduced, in fact, in 1958.
But I'd say that was shot on film, obviously. Which had had full colour capabilities since Technicolor in the 30s and was starting to finally get cheap and popular by the mid-50s.

I live in Newport, and you'll never guess what the field that the Jazz and Folk festivals took place in for so long is now.

/two apartment complexes. They have truly paved paradise to put up a parking lot.
