Oh good, she's only keeping half a billion dollars. That seems appropriate for a state with a population of 700,000 people. It's not like they're sitting on a highly needed natural resource or anything.

Asa Phelps [TotalFark] 2009-03-19 07:48:35 PM
And her state legislature can accept it whether or not she wants it.

She's never turned down a large package in her life.

Alaska is near the top of the "welfare states" -- states that take in far, far more federal money than they contribute.

Well, it's obvious they don't need any free SAE kits, since the victims can pay for that themselves.

Perhaps they're reactionary -

They live in a state with lots of folks living off of the system and they're seeing the effects first hand. They vote Republican to try to starve out the freeloaders around them, but the blue states that don't want the freeloaders keep voting blue to prevent an exodus from the red to blue states.

According to TFA, nothing has been "turned down" yet. She's just letting the legislature accept the other half of the money. Later she'll try to say that she didn't take stimulus money.

The GOP lost the presidential election, like, 5 months and one presidential inauguration ago.

Just a reminder. Like, maybe, it is time to look at more relevant politicians for your amusement, rather than keeping on Palinpalooza'ing around this horse that was already beaten to well beyond death before the election.

Whatever. Stay the course if you want. Just saying, is all.

They won't leave her alone. She's a threat.

Ever notice nobody calls Dick Cheney stupid? The democrat party speechmakers treat you entirely different if you're a conservative but have the decency to stay on your side of the old-boring-white-male fence. If you're a guy, you're straight, married, white, born before Pearl Harbor got bombed, they'll just call you a living embodiment of evil and call it a day...leave all those dimbulb-stupid-klutz jokes filed away (unless your name is Gerald Ford).

But be born during or after WWII...or be black like Clarence Thomas or Alan Keyes, or female and good-looking like Sarah Palin or Condi Rice, or gay like the Log Cabins, or stray off the plantation in any other way...and out come the talking points. You're dim, you're dumb, you're stupid, you're reckless. While Jimmy Carter says "nukular" as often as he likes, and Obama mixes up his teleprompters and ends up thanking himself.

Palin isn't even asking for the publicity here. It's the democrat party trying to think up talking points against her, because she can't really be counted out of the game like their "polls" keep saying she can. If it was true they would have gotten busy ignoring her a long time ago.

Fact is, four years of Obama are going to make her look even more desirable. In a lot of ways. And they know it. They're terrified.

We definitely want her to be the Republican nominee for President, for the sheer amusement she'll bring us when she loses by 20 points.

/but it'd be more like 5 points or less based on the last few elections

Wrong choice of words.

We're not "terrified," we're disgusted that our fellow Americans continue to give this nutcase the time of day, threatening to vote for her.

Nice bouquet of strawman there. Too bad it smells like shiat.

And congratulations, you just defended sexual harassment, warmongering, and people who would sell out their own sexual preferences to run with "the big dogs."

Nobody calls Cheney stupid, because he isn't. He's a lot of things--evil, corrupt, the embodiment of Satan on earth--but he's not stupid. I've noticed that speechmakers usually only call people stupid who are, in fact, stupid.

No one said GWB was stupid ONLY because he couldn't say "nuclear" correctly. He was stupid about a whole lot of other things as well.

Well, that and a lot of the resources are under miles of rugged terrain, ice-covered mountains, and Arctic pack ice 19 months a year.

You're kidding right? Palin has probably spent more time outside her state doing GOP events this year than she's been in the governor's office. This whole thing is just more cheap publicity. She can decline half the funds and claim to be a "fiscal conservative" while the state legislature quietly accepts it later.
