Very true, though I'd add "and what it stands for" after the word flag. I wish people would stop telling me how patriotic they are and show my through their actions.

It's probably small comfort, but chances are good that the people who called you a war criminal have since miraculously discovered the ability to criticize our leadership. Probably right around January 20 of this year, if I had to hazard a guess.
