Not a chance with the % of old folks in Arizona-they still believe Reefer Madness; and even worse the Phoenix Valley (where most of the population is) loves Joe Arpaio.

I dunno, my satire meter is going off. "The pot" was my first clue.

And if not, hey.... make ya a deal. If I ever turn into a spider, I'll quit smoking weed. Until then, nobody gets a vote what I do. Deal?

/Because I am totally down with that agreement.

If weed was legal, it would be taxed and regulated, however that doesn't necessarily mean that illegal weed is going to just vanish like a fart in the wind.

And all we know the weed that people buy legally might be used to support illegal activities.

If I was a spider, I think drugs would be superfluous! I mean webs, hanging on walls and ceilings, scaring people...that would be crazy enough for me!
Maybe....

Alcohol and tobacco are legal and there are plenty of bootleggers of these products. Same goes for prescription drugs too.

Just some of the reasons why I believe marijuana should be legal for responsible adults (sorry for the copypasta - scroll over it if it bores you):

* The "war on drugs" is a failure, prohibition is a failure, and a new approach is needed.
* Billions of dollars a year of my tax dollars, and the tax dollars of millions of voters, are wasted on this war on American citizens.
* There is no medical or social reason for responsible adults to be prohibited from using marijuana
* When responsible adults make an informed choice to use marijuana it is a victimless crime.
* Responsible adults should be legally free to enjoy a victimless recreational substance
* Responsible adults have a constitutional right to liberty in their actions, as long as their actions do not harm others
* Medical professionals and experts know that marijuana can relieve pain and suffering for cancer and AIDS victims and other sick people
* There is evidence that marijuana may be useful in fighting MRSA, a deadly infection that is resistant to certain antibiotics
* There is evidence that marijuana cuts tumor growth in lung cancer in half and reduces the ability of the cancer to spread
* Marijuana has far fewer dangerous and hazardous effects on individuals and on society than legal drugs such as alcohol
* Unlike alcohol, marijuana is proven to be non-toxic, impossible to overdose on, and never directly responsible for any deaths
* If marijuana is legalized, it can be better regulated, controlled, and kept out of the hands of children
* Legalized marijuana could generate billions of dollars in tax revenue to fund important government programs
* Marijuana arrests and incarceration disproportionately target minorities, especially blacks and Hispanics
* Legalizing marijuana will reduce the drug money funneled to terrorists and international criminals
* Legalized marijuana will provide thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of legal, tax-paying small businesses
* Marijuana will provide huge income opportunities for existing business in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, farming, and other industries
* There is no consistent or definitive medical evidence that marijuana is per se harmful to the health of any individual
* Marijuana (as hemp) is a valuable source of resources for paper, textiles,
* Marijuana (as hemp) can be used to produce biofuels, and can help to reduce American dependence on oil
* Too many innocent citizens and law enforcement officials are hurt and killed during prosecution of marijuana laws

If they legalize it, do what they do with Tobacco-

1. Run addiction/rehab clinics partially funded by Mary Jane taxes and manufacturers

2. Allow personal growth, but restrict sales to liscenced companies.

3. Limit the number of coffee shops that can sell it. (Like we do with liquor).

4. Make coffee shops and other places of use have a functional relationship with a reliable form of public transportation, since it is far easier to get past your limit.

I'm for legalization, but you do have to acknowledge the social problems that will occur, already are occuring.

A friend of mine is a hazmat guy who made his living cleaning up meth busted labs in Tacoma. His business has all dried up. No one here in Tacoma is making meth anymore. It's all coming ready-made from Mexico.

maniacbastard [TotalFark] 2009-03-18 12:02:22 AM
Simply put, If American weed is legal and Mexican is not and American weed is cheap and Mexican is not, guess what happens?

You have a shiatload of money to slaughter scumbags in Mexico that sell crappy expensive weed.

So legalize American weed farms. Put difficult to replicate holographic tax stamps on it and sell it. If you are caught with inferior Mexican ditch weed, you get a visit to the buttrape hotel.

A phalanx might be overkill. Why not let them police their own? Set up an illegals for amnesty kind of thing. Illegals already in country can safely apply for a 30-day visa. If during that 30-days they can capture (detain by means of their choosing) 3 illegals crossing the border - they get fast-tracked towards citizenship. Miss getting 3 by the end of the month...back you go to your country of origin.

i call bullshiat on that statement.

Marijuana is Bulkier, more difficult to transport, and is sold for much much less than coke or meth. Also it is of lower quantity than what is readily being produced in Canda and the US. I doubt Mexican cartels are fighting a war over the "precious marijuana smuggling routs"

True! We should also ban Aspirin, NyQuil, and Coffee at the same time because all drugs are created equal!

albertalaska 2009-03-18 12:08:08 AM
Legalizing all illegal drugs would make them almost worthless compared to today's prices, also putting millions of humans out of work. This would have ramifications worldwide causing one of the biggest economic downturns of all time. Oh wait, maybe this is a good time to do it since we are already in a depression it wouldn't be hardly noticed.

STFU bonehead. We all know the arguments. The effects of marijuana have nothing to do with the question of legalization as posited here.

Just because you hate pot is no reason to trot out these tired old arguments every time anyone wants to have a reasoned discussion of the issue.

That wouldn't work at all. They'd just trade off catching each other. Why is illegal immigration a huge problem anyway if the immigrants are peaceful? If they're not, they should be caught for their crimes as easily as anyone else.
