People really, really, really want to believe that if they just make all the right and perfect decisions, they will live forever.

Sadly, we all die. And some people are just losers in the big genetic lottery.

Generally if someone is talking about generic "toxins" and "cleanses" though, they're full of shiat. But often they really really really want to believe their own woo, they're not always necessarily just out to rip you off.

How about some background information?

Bif was not always into a healthy lifestyle. Back in her Chrome Dog days, she smoked, drank, and basically did a lot of crap that seems to have caught up with her (unless this was due to genetic pre-disposition. My guess is that it's a little from column A, a little from column B.)

After being a health-nut person for so long, avoiding things that are considered to cause cause cancer (in short, chemicals in foodstuffs) ... is it really hard to imagine being shocked from the diagnosis?

Bif is an awesome, strong lady. Her health-nut attitude is likely what's helped her get through the treatment as well as she has.

A couple of months ago, they had one of those alternate lifestyle fairs near here. I dropped by to take a look, and there was the usual assortment of nuts handing out pamphlets and selling handmade crap.

A couple of people were setting up the vegan lifestyle table. They had a milk crate (and I'm sure they didn't notice the irony) full of literature - sitting on a cart. The two of them (male and female) were trying to lift it and set it on the table, but couldn't. So I walked over, grabbed the crate with one hand, and set it on the table for them. Then they tried to explain how healthy they were now that they were vegans...

/I'm not that strong, they were just that weak
//vegan is what you eat when the healthy people take all of the food

Hell, where you do think EASTERN people go when they get sick nowadays?

Allopathic medicine for the win...

Yeah, you can be healthy as a vegan, or vegetarian. And being healthy is a good thing. But the thing is, merely being healthy is no guarantee that you won't get cancer. Some people just get cancer. Some kids are BORN with cancer.

Sometimes I think the "smoking and pesticides cause cancer" advertising worked too well, to the point that people think if you don't do anything wrong, you'll never get cancer.

But if you do get cancer, you're going to want some surgery and scientific medical treatment backed by actual blind evidence. Will it always work? No. But it's a far better chance than the rest of the woo people always go for because they really, really want to believe.

It's human to really really want to believe. But at some point you gotta let your brain kick in.

But here's hoping she makes a full recovery.

Yeah unlikely, you need strength to survive a cancer scare and that means lots of vitamins and proteins which you will not get enough of from a vegetarian diet.

Ok. Seems pretty juvenile & narcissistic to me, but we obviously have different views. I've had some pretty farked up stuff happen to me. So has everyone I ever met.

I went deaf in one ear. Didn't say anything like "Why me?". Why not? Probably the same reason I didn't ask "Why not me?" when my nephew did a deep dive in a shallow pool and ended up in a wheelchair.

Bad shiat happens. Law of averages say you'll get your share. To single yourself out as if you should be immune strikes me the same as if I were to see an adult whining "It's not FAIR!!!" as if the universe operated on some perfect code of justice.

If you don't think that a person is healthier by not eating fat-laden meat, then you are an idiot.

I eat meat because I like the taste, but I know that i would be healthier if I did not eat it.

Now get this: In nature, animals that are carnivores or omnivores have the shortest digestive tracts. Animals that are vegetarians have the longest digestive tracts.

Are humans digestive tracts short? or long?

Yep. Kick 'em when they're down.

When people are diagnosed with a serious disease like cancer, there is usually an element of shock and disbelief. It's only reasonable that if you're taking good care of yourself and doing everything you think will help prevent disease, like your doctor and the media tell you to do, that it would only heighten that element of disbelief.

The dumbass tag should be for the people who don't get that.

I don't know her, but I wish her well.
