Come on Subby, it's NASA. They're not going to cut any corners. That's why they really used Gorilla Glue.

I as well. Grew up in Titusville, so it was right across the Indian River (which isn't a river, it's a God-forsaken stench factory with bonus horseshoe crabs).

Great timing today with the launch about 10 minutes after local sunset. If it goes on-time there ought to be some incredible pictures floating around tomorrow of the sun illuminating the trail against the dark sky.

Go baby GO!

Crew Profile:

Air Force Col. Lee Archambault will lead the crew of STS-119, and Navy Cmdr. Tony Antonelli will serve as the pilot. The mission specialists for the flight will be NASA astronauts Joseph Acaba, John Phillips, Steve Swanson, Richard Arnold and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Koichi Wakata.

Wakata will remain on the station, replacing Expedition 18 Flight Engineer Sandra Magnus, who returns to Earth with the STS-119 crew. He will serve as a flight engineer for Expeditions 18 and 19, and he will return to Earth on shuttle mission STS-127.

STS-119 is the 28th shuttle mission to the International Space Station. Discovery also will carry the S6 truss segment to the orbital outpost.

YoBulletsGoHere [TotalFark] 2009-03-15 07:17:37 PM
This is Commander Antonelli's first flight, though he's served with NASA for nine years. Incredible, the amount of dedication these guys put in before getting this opportunity.

Colonel Archambault, the mission commander, has been in NASA since 1998, flew 22 combat missions in Desert Storm in the F-117.

Sorry to geek out, I just think these guys have the coolest job in the world.

This is epic win if it really happens. My dad is down there right now waiting to watch it, and he has been waiting pretty much his whole life to see a shuttle go up. We saw a satellite go up a few years ago, one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

/Fingers crossed and watching the live stream.
