Maybe give a lapdance to someone who only wants one because of your personality?

Dammit, it seems even women fall into the mindset...taking your clothes off doesn't take any dignity away from a person- it's not like stripping and having a rich intellectual life are mutually exclusive. In fact, the hours allow you to take in museums and lectures during office hours, when it's much less crowded. You can learn about what interests you, not waste time with what doesn't, and still get the sexual thrill at night. Of course if you require a high-powered, high-status career to validate yourself to others, by all means...

I guess it's not worth getting worked up over though- the article is fake, completely skips the pertinent issue of how she was talked into handing her money over to someone, (which is not a common personality trait for a stripper) and "my legs are long and my boobs are beautiful" sounds suspicious.

Seriously, how lamentably deep terrorizing and traumatic must her gullible stupidity the abuse be if this just continues?

I seem to remember reading years ago that there was a tradition among Harvard undergrads to try to get letters printed by Ann Landers. This letter reminds me of those.

This sounds like a reverse, "Dear Penthouse," letter...

If this is even real, how on earth does someone get this fracked up? Sounds like there's absolutely nothing to lose by changing, especially if the change results in the loss of one job that she hates and one boyfriend that she dislikes...

I have a real hard time feeling sympathy for this woman. I knew a few strippers in my day and the money is addictive but none of them was with a guy who made them do it.

As much as I like naked women..strip clubs are sad to me as they resemble a societal toilet that seems to catch the trashiest of scum, weak or mentally down trodden of society.

/dead ends for women of abusive or abandonment and refuges for men that would take advantage of them.

Q: What does a stripper do with her asshole before she goes to work

A: Drop him off at band practice

Really though, I have had many friends who were strippers, in fact I worked as a driver/bouncer for private parties for a few years and I can honestly say that I have NEVER met a stripper in a healthy relationship. While there are plenty with boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands and in some states wives, none of them which I have met are in what I would call an emotionally stable relationship. Something about commercializing the most personal elements of a relationship seems to mess it up. Most strippers I know try to squeeze every dollar out of the men they do not respect and then blow it all on the boys they like (and blow). Not that there is anything wrong with that, if you can figure out how to be one of the boys they like.

Good call HifH, EW, and others.

A quick of explanation of British culture ... "newspapers" fall into two categories:

(a) broadsheets, printed on folded ~A0 size paper, which contain real news and serious political commentary, e.g. The Times, The Scotsman
(b) tabloids, printed on folded ~A2 size paper, most of which print tits on page 3 and whose purpose is solely to titillate the prurience of the chav (white trash) masses, e.g. The Sun, The Star

UK tabloids target the audience of people who consider Pop Idol and reality shows to be serious entertainment.

The Star is the lowest and most white trash of the tabloids that takes itself seriously, even below The Sun. I'd go further than to suggest that the letter is a troll mailed in, I'd be prepared to bet that it was written by a Star staffer.

In the UK, we even have a tabloid dedicated to shamelessly parodying the attempts of the other ones (The Star in particular) to pretend to be newspapers, and which is literally and simply full of tits: Wendy Warm-front the weather girl maintains a daily nipple count in her column, which often makes it to 3 figures ..... it's called the Daily Sport (new window, possibly NSFW) and is better known colloquially as the Daily Spurt. It's kinda like a printed version of Fark with the other-site-that-Drew-sold-to-Mr-Skin rolled in.

/Big-time FAIL for subby and mods, unless they are trying to troll us :-)
//On that note, how do you find out who the subby is so you can ridicule him/her?

Mugato [TotalFark] 2009-03-15 01:50:46 PM
jdmac: I have NEVER met a stripper in a healthy relationship

I had a stripper girlfriend for a while and treated her well. Never looked down on her because of what she did, never cheated etc. She went crazy and left. So yeah, a normal, healthy relationship is like Kryptonite to strippers.

And yes, they are ultimately sad places.

southern78: As much as I like naked women..strip clubs are sad to me as they resemble a societal toilet that seems to catch the trashiest of scum, weak or mentally down trodden of society.

Agreed.

The circumstances within which a bright, promising, talented, rational young woman would eagerly take up a career in the adult entertainment industry because of its challenges and suitability to unique talents are hard to imagine - not impossible, just highly unlikely.

"I'm hot, I'm broke, so I'll dance on a pole because it's easy and the money is good," isn't an educated career decision. It's an act of desperation, a job that feeds off the worst in people, and such a stress on one's body and mind that it's virtually impossible to avoid drug & alcohol abuse and violent, predatory men.

Also, TFA's letter is either a fake or its author is a complete idiot.

If a woman is that comfortable with her body and if it frees up time for her other interests, then, she's hardly the victim. If she's comfortable with using her body that way (and to add to her bank balance), then she has a job at which she's having fun?

I'm sure being a stripper is not as demeaning as a call-girl career (to some, where it is more out of need and desperation that they have got into it). Perhaps, many of the high-class ones enjoy it, being pampered by rich old coots and having a fun time in the bargain, but then, I'm a guy, so I might be wrong.

If on the other hand, she's doing it just for the money, and lack of other options, I'm sure that can't be too pleasant. I don't think dignity really comes into it ... hm ... are we still in the 1950s?

If it's not fake, then she's really a moron. Not married, can't just pack up and bail? Give me a break.

It's like those biatches that get beat up and slapped around then scream "But I know he really loves me, I can't leave him, he just gets angry sometimes!"

I feel that I should be doing something challenging and worthwhile.

Just tell/lie to yourself that you're doing it until you go back to college. By then the coke will have you and it won't be an issue.

Pretty much THIS. Get over the sex worker stigma and realize we are all whores and selling our bodies in one way or another. It is just a job, do it the best you can and leave work at work. I've know plenty of people who sell sex in one way or another and love the high pay and free time to do what they like.

That said most strippers are bat-shiat insane.

I feckin' love the Daily Sport.

I remember hearing that it's technically classified as a 'comic' rather than a newspaper, because of the emphasis on tits over news.
