Not bad.

Eh.

These 'amazing kids playing video game songs' videos are getting kind of redundant.

I can't see how amazing talent from kids is redundant.

The original work is not that great, admittedly. But the kid doing it is impressive as it shows the power of pop culture.

Yes. The power of the mediocrity to turn brains to mush. Amazing.

Yea it is clear from this video that this kid spends all of his time playing video games. What a mush brain he is.

What's most amazing is that this kid appears to have memorized all 40 songs.

Burn! That place is a wreck. I'd go insane living there.

That's just part of being a musician. Musicians aren't supposed to look at the music when peforming.

StinkyPinky: I can't see how amazing talent from kids is redundant.

Because after seeing the same thing a million times, it ceases to be amazing. I gotta be honest, this one wasn't even one of the better musical medley videos I've seen.

What is it with people videotaping themselves playing videogame music? The worst culprits are bass players with eleventy thousand bass strings on their instruments.

Play some real music, and i'll be impressed. Does anyone actually listen to Super Mario Bros when they're not playing the G.D. game? Seriously, I want to know.

Hooray! A kid figured out that all-difficult 8-bit music!

/bored

Kid? He's a system developer for Gameloft (according to his YouTube profile), and unless he's incredibly gifted and he finished high school early, he's at least in his early 20s.

But regarding video game music, I generally prefer listening to this guy... Martin Leung (new window), who toured with Video Games Live.

first off, I wouldn't call it amazing but it's always good to know that people are doing this stuff.

second, my urge to watch these things is minimal, as it is with everyone else apparently.

thirdly,

wtf? eleventy billion strings on a bass? are you thinking of a smaller number like 8 or 12?

Sm3agol85 2009-03-15 01:50:39 PM
Bleh. Only a million of these on the internet. I myself play the piano, and let me tell you that video game music is NOT hard.

Kinda late now, but i honestly don't remember seeing it and would love to see how farkdom responded to that.

Big deal. If I hit the keys in the right order at the right time, I could play these songs too.

I assumed the 'kid' in the video was asian because he was playing piano and teh room was cluttered with things like old computers and another keyboard.

My assumptions were invalidated.

I often times hum or sing the main theme from SMB2. That bass line is effing sweet.

I can play these songs, too. Also, the various music from Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!!.

*shrug* I thought, from the headline, it was going to be a KID. Like a five-year-old. Seeing someone like me do something I can do is... unimpressive.

Why start now?

MikoSquiz 2009-03-16 04:54:24 PM
It's not bad per se but his timing's sloppy and yeah, we've seen a hundred people do this so far on YouTube. I know half a dozen people who can play these songs.

When do we get a greenlight for "amazing kid juggles three balls at the same time!"?

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2009-03-16 07:06:42 PM

You shouldn't. It isn't hard, just put some practice time in.

Drumboardist 2009-03-18 03:39:52 AM
Meh. Just...meh. Guy is decent, but not wildly-talented nor is he exceptionally original. He's playing transcriptions of the original music put to piano, which is...fine, but hell, if I wanted to listen to that, I'd just grab one of my midi programs that takes old 8-bit sound rips and puts them into midi piano. I myself play a 2+ hour medley of actual arrangements and stylized versions of songs, from games that deviate from the usual "ZOMG Mario and Zelda!" theme....wee. From a clinical note, he's not bad but not amazing. From an artistic standpoint, he's very boring. I'd rather listen to that guy who played 50 songs from Earthbound than this guy, because at least *that* guy had the balls to take songs that should be technically "unplayable" and put them to task.
