I love this song, but I also like LeeAnn Rimes cover of both it and Blue.

Beautiful, Patsy.

Way to rip off Gnarls Barkley, who ripped off Brittany, who ripped off Crazy Frog.

Or perhaps "cry in your bong", since it was written by Willie Nelson.

The scene in "Coal Miner's Daughter" where Loretta finds out about Patsy's death always bums me out.

You're thinking of Johnny Cash.

I mean Willie Nelson. There's a reason they call him "slick" willie.

he's evil I tells ya. evil!

The bong or the song? I love everything that ever came out of Patsy's face. Even her bio-pic, Sweet Dreams (I think it was Jessica Lange and Ed Harris that starred in it), was very watchable because of that iconic/angelic voice.

I don't care for country music, but Patsy Cline's rendition of "Crazy" has always been an exception. It is amazing.

Bathia, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with the mentioning of LeeAnn Rimes in the same topic as Patsy Cline. That fugly little pigfarker needs to learn how to sing. Okay...that's not such a respectful disagreement, but I stand by it. I've never understood why people sought to classify her as the next Patsy Cline.

Granted, I'm biased. I've had the distinct "pleasure" of meeting her and her asshole father in a casual setting after she REALLY was popular, and NOTHING in the time I had of interacting with either of them reflected "class", unlike Patsy, who seems to be equivalent to a saint in the country music canon.

That may be true, but only one of them appeared in the best movie ever made - Coyote Ugly.

Realizing that her husband used to beat the crap out of her makes it an even better song.

LeeAnn Rimes and Pasty Cline have about as much in common as Brittany Spears and Billie Holliday.

I've always liked this song, and never really considered its genre. It goes well with some other old old pop, and some enka.

Well, there's a little more to this...
The guy who produced 'Blue' was ALSO Cline's producer and when he
heard LeeAnn sing he said she was a close to Patsy as he had ever heard and that's why he gave her 'Blue' to sing.

1)Keep in mind LeeAnn was a kid -14- when she did 'Blue' and Cline was in her late 20s.

2)Willie certainly has written some songs that belong in the
Great American Songbook

3) IMHO - 'Walkin' After Midnight' FTW.

Blue was written by Bill Mack, who was a D.J. for WBAP radio in 1959. Patsy's producer was Owen Bradley

LeeAnn sold her soul to carbon copy "pop" country, Patsy did not.

Patsy, like Billie Holliday was a talented innovator.
While LeAnn much like Brittany is not.

LeeAnn Rimes has one of those annoying voices where a phrase comes up like she has a volume pedal by her foot:
how do I live without you

Trisha Yearwood's original version of "How Do I Live" is much superior because Yearwood just sings the notes without affectation, much like Patsy Cline would have sung the song. Cline added a slight country break to some notes, but that's a stylistic choice for the market. Cline sang the notes on the page, and beautifully.

Star Search ruined pop singing. Everyone wanted to be first-season-winner Sam Harris after that show, with notes whooping up and down the scale in a parody of true virtuosity. For a guy who is pretty much unknown now, Harris has been the greatest single influence on pop singing in the last 20 years - and not a good one.

Sam Harris begat Mariah Carey, the ultimate triumph of style over substance. Where's Karen Carpenter when you really need her? Just sing the notes of the song well.

As much as I dislike Trisha Yearwood, and all that her style of "pop" country music that has tainted the hart and soul of true traditional country. I cannot disagree with anything that you said.

You should check out Heather Myles, Rattlesnake Annie, Rosie Flores, Kelly Willis, or Mary Cutrufello

She had just been in a car accident... She often wore something to cover the scar.

Thank you subby.

When I went home for Christmas, I brought a new needle for the turntable and a bunch of records for my sister. Poor teen had be on a diet of Miley Cyrus and Nickleback.
I began the detox with Pasty and followed with Pat Benetar.

I also got her Queen Live Killers, the first Boston Album, and the best of Emerson Lake and Palmer.

Well I guess 2 out of 5 is not so bad.....

Did you hear about the time that Boston and Journey mixed up their tour dates and no body noticed?

Shortly before he passed away, Owen Bradley turned up on the NPR "Fresh Air" program. Among other things, he mentioned that Patsy was in a rotten mood the day that "Crazy" was recorded and in fact she hated the song. It was recorded in one take, and the "thump a bump" bass was remixed to give the song some dynamics.

It really is a classic that transcends musical boundaries, and Patsy's ability to shade a note remains unchallenged. Linda Rondstadt and kd lang can only wish.

I watched her rip a homeless guys heart out with a claw hammer back in '61. She wasn't being nice but then again she was all meth'd out and thought he was a snickerdoodle...

Kris Kristofferson is the best country song writer.

Look at the songs he wrote for other people let alone for himself.

Hands down Patsy Cline could rip your heart out and I must bring up the other great female voice of coutry music, Tammy Wynette. She picked up where Patsy left off in evoking more emotion in an audio recording than most people can do face to face.
