It isn't doom and gloom that destroyed the economy, it was blind market cheerleading that destroyed the economy. Shhhhh, you just gave away the Republicans' strategy to win in 2010. And it wasn't McCain being a "more experienced candidate trying to douse the fire with optimism", it was McCain realizing people were gonna see the R next to his name and the R next to the name of the guy that was in office when this happened and correctly see that his party is largely to blame for it.
