I am so glad that the 100 quadrillion dollars we've pumped into the economy is having some effect!

We're not going to default on Chinese investments here. But by all means, stretch that to mean whatever you want, Republicans.

Or maybe, being the more experienced candidate, McCain was trying to douse the fire with optimism, where Obama and the Dem's saw that destroying the economy through doom and gloom was beneficial. No matter how many 401k's, taxpayers, investors, retirees, homeowners and families it destroyed.

NewportBarGuy [TotalFark] 2009-03-15 12:38:43 AM
After taking control of the White House, installing Summers, Volcker and Geithner... Passing the Stimulus Package, and announcing to foreign debt holders that we will be increasing taxes to pay off Treasury obligations...

Yeah, I'd say that it's sound, if you want to look at in macroeconomic terms.

We can't do that, though! We must look at the stock market!!!!

Oh... yeah. They're seeing the same thing.

That's definitely it. You nailed it.

MIguy: Nothing pleases me more than watching the sheep defend Obama.

Can you read? Because only an illiterate retard would have thought that he did the same thing Bush did.

Bush said there is no problem and that the economy is sound as well. This was a total piece of lying crap.

Obama said this:

"There's a reason why even in the midst of this economic crisis you've seen actual increases in investment flows here into the United States," Obama said. "I think it's a recognition that the stability not only of our economic system, but also our political system, is extraordinary.

Our economic system is Capitalism. Theirs is Communism. He was contrasting Communism with Capitalism, and showing that Capitalism is sound, as is Democracy.

I'm not sure if you realised the roles are apparently reversed now.

Though I agree that obviously turning the other cheek to actual problems while smiling the whole time is not going to help the economy, I do think it will help as I think plenty of the problem is purely psychological.

You can feel it, I can feel it. The basic building blocks of American standards and democracy as a whole are crumbling under our feet. McDonald's, Wal-Mart, gas stations, 7-11's, roads, highways, infrastructure, law & order. And underneath the entire scaffold that supports the United States as a whole?

Dry rot you can't see. Yet.

Americans walk, talk, drive, buy and act like nothing is wrong.

Things couldn't be more wrong, folks. You're standing on the Titanic scraping along the iceberg and you don't even know it.

When are we, as Americans, gonna cut the crap and get on with the farking anarchy? Christ, America. You know goddamn good and well it's coming. Can't you feel it? The entire system is on the brink of total meltdown. Let's get on with it!

/aaaahhh. A good rant feels pretty damn good!

Nuance is impossible for Republicans to understand. Once they have been told to equate something in their minds (Iraq/Al-Qaeda, Taxes/Socialism) no amount of facts will untangle it.

It isn't doom and gloom that destroyed the economy, it was blind market cheerleading that destroyed the economy. Sure, it's a lot less stressful to ignore that you're driving towards a cliff, but it isn't the guy who shouted "LOOK OUT!"'s fault that you are now sailing through the air hoping you hit something softer than rock.

It gets boring after a while though. I like watching them say they agree with Obama, and then list the things with which they disagree like Warren Buffett. Buffet threw him under the bus because of his policies, and then went on to say he was the right guy for the job.

Either he is right, or he is wrong. I can see clearly which one it is because I am not blinded by partisanship.

This is not a baseball game, it is the future of our nation.

Norad: Americans walk, talk, drive, buy and act like nothing is wrong.

Not sure if your post was sarcasm or what, but the ones who aren't affected do. The ones who are affected don't. People aren't rioting in the streets for bread, they aren't hopping freight trains going town-to-town looking for work, they aren't bartering instead of spending a dollar that's been inflated 10,000%.

Americans have NO FARKING CONCEPT of what real economic distress is (at least since the 30s). If things get bad, you'll know it. And don't give us this "ZOMG ITS ABOUT TO COLLAPSE AND NO ONE KNOWS!!!" crap. We can steer this ship right off the edge of the Earth very very VERY easily. For now, we can argue about whether we are or aren't.

Bacontastesgood 2009-03-15 01:12:31 AM
Yeah, the Chinese president two days ago questioned the stability of the US and their trillion dollar investment here. It is a pretty obvious power play and a test of a new US president.

So Barak is responding. What do you want him to say, that we suck and they should sell sell sell?

Shhhhh, you just gave away the Republicans' strategy to win in 2010. And it wasn't McCain being a "more experienced candidate trying to douse the fire with optimism", it was McCain realizing people were gonna see the R next to his name and the R next to the name of the guy that was in office when this happened and correctly see that his party is largely to blame for it. McCain was trying to save his own ass like any other politician (Yes, if Obama was in that same position I don't doubt he would say the same, and it would be just as ridiculous) would.

Besides, he wasn't saying the economy was sound. He was saying reassuring the Chinese government that their investments in the US were safe. Would you have preferred if he told them to panic and stop giving us money? No? Then shut the fark up.

By the way, those evil libs that at MSNBC that are totally in the tank for Obama sure did a hell of a job misrepresenting his statements to make an attention grabbing headline. DAMN YOU, LIBERAL MEDIA!!!11

has anyone pointed out yet that when McCain said it - it held significantly MORE truth than when O says it today?

Conservatives (me at least) aren't saying it's bad to be optimistic - but you're going to get some flak when you've been yapping ad nauseam about "crisis-crisis-crisis" to the point that it takes Bubba to say "hey, maybe you should lighten up." "Never let a crisis go to waste," isn't that it?

Because the Dem's now control the house and senate. His voice, and those of the other dissenting republicans are squelched by the shrills of Pelosie and the thunderous pants clasp of Harry Reid. Ron Paul is leading a charge under his proposal to "Audit the Fed" bill, but needs citizen support. You can sit back and await your ABM bucks or challenge the established political machine.
