They can all DIAF and go straight to hell.

MIT campus cop. The criminals he's busted were parked illegally, or smoking dope in the utility tunnels, or putting shiat on top of building 7. They'll probably teach him how to synthesize the oxycontin so he won't get busted again.

There is NO FARKING WAY an officer of the peace broke a law he was sworn by duty to enforce! All allegations must be AN ABSOLUTE LIE!! SHAME! SHAME on those responsible for this atrocity! For accusing a sacred member of the POLICE, of all people. The tipster should be immediately sentenced for whatever crime they were about to accuse this innocent officer of.

*sigh*

Seriously though, please murder every policeman you can. They'll blow your head off because some asswipe with a big mouth got the apartment number wrong and you reached for your glasses when they shined a flashlight in your eyes.

I like how a cop can f*cking get videotaped beating the shiat out of innocent bystanders, and walk away without criminal charges or discipline, but the second a cop touches an illegal drug (read, non-tequlia slammer), he gets 10 years in the can for buying and selling a substance that makes people feel good.

He will be in solitary for his own protection. Even if he wasn't with any prisoners he ever put in jail, prisoners don't like cops, and they'll let him know it if they get a chance. He isn't doing county time either, he is gonna go to big-boy prison.

I really wouldn't care if he does get tossed around a bit in prison for giving people yet another reason to hate cops, and this time a good reason.

Ya know, I bust my ass to be a good cop. I go way out of my way to ensure people's rights are protected. When feasible, I try to make everyone I have contact with feel better about cops. I make less arrests than other cops because I stay far away from the grey areas. I make less arrests than other cops, because I feel that even if what you are doing is illegal, if it doesn't bother anyone, then it probably isn't an issue.

But then, I come here, and see shiat like this. Usually its not as verbose, but its along the same lines. And then I wonder why I go as far as I do to really help people, when its clear that its not often appreciated.

Sure, I do get a lot of compliments (more than complaints!) sent to my department about me, and that is rewarding, but I come on here, and day after day, I see person after person spew blanket statements about cops. I know no one is ever going to appreciate having their behavior regulated by the hand of the government, but come on! Every day that I read this crap, and crap like it, it gets harder and harder to go out and try the best I can, when it would be so much easier to give minimal effort, and not care about people's rights, and not go out of my way to do what I believe is right. It all pays the same.

Those of you who have read and participated in my ask-a-cop threads know how hard I try, but for what?

Your contributions are stifled by the men and women in uniform who cannot turn off the need to control every situation. We fully understand that when you're on duty, it's something you must do in order to protect yourself, however, when you're off duty, or not conducting official business, it needs to get shut off.

I've met far too many cops who couldn't turn it off, and were absolute assholes because of it.

I agree with this 100%. When I'm not at work, I'm not at work. The group-think that tends to go along with policing does nothing but damage, as it tends to do everywhere it exists. We were taught in the academy about not letting the job rule our life, but it wasn't until I read a book about the Stanford prison experiment that everything seemed to make sense.

I agree with you, but the point I am trying to make is that the blanket statements really hurt. I try hard to not take it personally, but it's hard not to, especially when I bust my ass to be one of the more "enlightened" cops.

This is not to say there aren't shiatbag cops out there, because there are. This isn't to say that there aren't stupid cops out there, because there are. But, some cops are really are decent people. Many of them, in fact.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2009-03-15 08:04:53 AM
MIT CPs are pretty good as police go. They don't think their job is to shoot people, and if they do shoot (according to campus legend) they are actually capable of hitting their target.

The problem that I have with your statement Chief_Otto_Parts , is that millions of people go to work and put their life on the line everyday, and no one is handing them any appreciation either. Its nice to hear that you do your job with integrity! But you need to suck it up, because Im not aware of any jobs that hand out appreciation for doing your job, even if you do your best every day.

You get over-authoritative douchebags in every position, Doctors, Sales, etc. All positions have the same amount, it's just that in the Police profession, you can spread your mood to the general public.

Though, I will say, Boston is a corrupt place. Even the Firemen are under investigation for corruption and fraud.

And in-between the lines here lies the problem. Okay, you're a good cop genuinely interested in helping and protecting citizens, yet even you seem to think this is the exception rather than the rule. A cop's job is to be "good" and "protect people's rights", yet even you consider that task "busting your ass" and "going out of your way".

60 x 340 doesn't equal 750,000. More like 20,000.

JamesLi: To the guy FTFA: Enjoy prison, you deserve it.

Hey JamesLi. Where were you in the 'Texas cops steal black peoples money' and 'Denver cop found not guilty' threads?

Fenixpark: All these bad cop stories can make you cynical.

Just keep in mind good cops don't make for interesting news stories.

Of course. But think of it this way- every time you hear a 'bad cop' story, replace it in your mind with a 'Faulty Brand X car blows up' story. Don't you think you'd be hollering for a recall by now? Or would you be saying "Well, there's hundreds of thousands that haven't exploded..."

Hmmm, usually they just steal drugs out of the evidence locker.

As others said: The only reason this guy's being prosecuted is that he's a campus cop. If he was full-on PD he'd be hauling bags out of the cage wholesale, and once he got caught, the brotherhood of blue would rally to let him off.

Sooooo...we should be thankful that you...do your job properly?

Jesus f*cking Christ on a crutch, I cannot believe that you think that you "go out of your way" to "ensure that people's rights are protected." THAT IS YOUR MOTHERF*CKING JOB. Got that? The fact that you think you're doing something special is exactly, precisely what is wrong with modern police work. What you are apparently doing is what every single cop in America should be doing, and if they're not capable of properly serving their bosses, ie., us, the taxpayers, then they should be f*cking fired and sent to work mall security.

I'm glad that you do you job properly. I am disturbed that you think you're going out of your way to do so.

Not to mention that a cop's job is to enforce the law, and even when a reasonable-sounding cop like Chief Otto recognizes that some laws can safely be ignored, you will NEVER hear a cop go on record saying that (e.g. 55 MPH speed limits on Interstate highways, criminalization of marijuana, etc.)

There certainly wouldn't be as much resentment towards cops if they didn't regularly deny things that we know are true - such that driving 70 MPH on the Interstate is perfectly safe - and are more than happy to bust you for acting in a safe, reasonable manner and then turn around and flagrantly violate the law and endanger others 10 minutes later.
