Why, Republicans?

Why?

The 10 Republicans voting no were Jason Chaffetz, Jeff Flake, Ted Poe, Ron Paul, Bill Shuster, Randy Neugebauer, Jeff Miller, Mike Pence, Dean Heller and Tim Johnson

Pi, circles, and aptitude in mathematics are not mentioned in the Constitution.

They will vote for Pi only when schools agree to teach the competing theories that conflict with the Pi hypothesis.

Well duh. It doesn't give equal time to the biblical literalist alternative point of view that Pi = 3!

Republicans hate math. If it didn't exist, their policies would be flawless.

I always enjoyed Pi day at high school. Not because of the math, I hate math, but because of the delicious pies the Math Team brought to lunch.

I personally find e to be a constant much more relevant to my interests than some lousy π, and I heartily agree with the aforementioned senators.

Down with the π-day, long live the e-day!

Just came back from a Pi Day party (friend of mine's potluck birthday party )- he insisted everyone's dish be some form of pie

We had cheeseburger pie, tortiere (a Quebecois meat pie), cake pie, blueberry pie, bread in the shape of pi, cottage pie, cheesecake pie, smoked salmon pie (I brought that)...

It was a very delicious pi day.

PoopStain: what could anyone possibly have against pi day? I looked it up on Wiki and it's not even like there's a better day already being celebrated.

Uh... they're holding out for Steak and BJ day. Can you blame them, really?

e? fark e.

0 is the greatest constant in math.

Just throw a zero in the equation and bam! The whole thing is gone biatch!

At least they aren't submitting bills that would make pi 3 anymore. That is progress.

ΔG = ΔH - TΔS

If you want the same old tired gridlock of constants, then you probably voted for McCain. The rest of us wanted change we can believe in.

Sir Vanderhoot: G is where the men get their constants.

I like my constants with a hint of variable for flavor, thank you very much. That way, depending on where you lived, you could celebrate at different times. Think about it: You get up early in the morning on a tall mountain-top, and celebrate g-day. Then you scoot down the mountain and celebrate g-day a few seconds later again.

I suppose that in a pinch, μ could do for some comfort-food constants.

Makes me feel at home, you know?

FTFA: "It's not clear as to why those Republicans would have opposed this resolution. Perhaps the Republicans were upset because the book of Kings is thought to state that the value of Pi is 3."

Oh come now. I think it's pretty clear that the Republicans voted against it because they thought it was a waste of time. Second, the clip from snopes was a confessed hoax, not a "rumor."

The article misrepresents the position of the Republicans here, but I'm sure if called to task that the author at Kos would say they were only "joking" and that this is "satire" (that is not obvious in the article at all). This is exactly how Anne Coulter cloaks her statements as well, so do keep that in mind. You have lowered yourself to her level. I'm not saying you can't have fun, but when you do things like this, you shouldn't expect people to take you seriously in the future -- you abdicate all rights to turn "serious cat" on people when they do the same to you. Even when it's Coulter or Limbaugh, because as far as the balance sheet goes, you're all just evil clowns honking horns at each other.

Serious cat is serious. You posted a good three inches plus of text on something pointless and stupid. Yay.
