Or, as they call it in L.A., "Friday".

"One car got totaled in Stillwater. [But] we tried to keep it pretty safe."

Although I will say they do sound like morons for claiming to keep it safe when they totaled a car... idiots...

I am AMAZED at the liability issues here, and bet this'll never happen again.

/...and yeah, Red Bull's parent corporation's corporate liabilty lawyers are certainly breathing a sigh of relief.

I didn't like the story. Oklahoma Highway Patrol was nowhere to be found. They have a wondeful record of chasing suspects till their is a fatal accident.

cats4rent 2009-03-15 10:30:14 AM
i would bet they can't do this again next year. at least not in the same place. by the way... who owns red bull?

tillerman35 2009-03-15 10:59:14 AM
I'm not usually one of those "but think of the children!" sort of guys, but in this case I do actually have to wonder how many cars with kids (or parents with kids at home) these asshats passed on the way. And every one of them is an opportunity for someone to either never grow up or grow up missing a mom or a dad.

And please no "speed isn't the issue here" idiots. Lord, how someone can argue that 100mph+ isn't a problem simply /boggles. College age (or any other age) idiots traveling at 100mph+ on public roads has no justification.

M-G 2009-03-15 11:02:06 AM
cats4rent: i would bet they can't do this again next year. at least not in the same place. by the way... who owns red bull?

Yeah. Typically any kind of thing like this on public roads will have minimum times or maximum average speeds you have to meet between stops.

Red Bull owns Red Bull. That's all they do.

Nofun 2009-03-15 11:32:01 AM
This is ridiculous. Redbull should be sued out their a** just for ATTEMPTING to sponsor something like this (and we're not even talking about criminal charges yet).

I work on a road crew every day, I can't even tell you how many close calls I've had from impaired/stupid drivers. Over 1,200 highway workers are KILLED every year from stupid sh** like this. If I had my way, I'd throw every one of these kids in jail... as well as the Redbull execs...

GoSurfing [TotalFark] 2009-03-15 11:40:31 AM
I hate people who pass on the shoulder. I've almost been killed this way when I was surveying on the side of the road.

Lots of money was used to paint the roads with lanes. Use them.

You farkers in your little bubbles forget you are moving at least a ton of mass at high velocity.

Motherfarker came a foot from my face at 80 mph. I should have jumped in my truck and pit maneuvered him into a ditch.

GoSurfing [TotalFark] 2009-03-15 11:43:40 AM
FTFA:

"We were going down a side street in a neighborhood and I think I was going 50 [miles per hour.] I hit a bump and bottomed out and [cracked my transmission]," he said. "I had to get my car towed. It's still in Ponca City."

They should have sent this one to jail.

I bet it was a 25 mph posted residential neighborhood. The "bump" he hit, I'm sure it was a farking speed bump.

I mean, you just don't go traveling down the road, obeying the speed limit, and hit a "bump" and crack your transmission. Unless you completely suck ass at life.

SomeoneDumb 2009-03-15 01:07:11 PM
I wonder how much Red Bull is donating to the producers of Amazing Race for ripping off their idea wholescale. All of the "challenges" sound like something right out of that TV show.

Zombie Eater 2009-03-15 02:11:15 PM
Dear Red Bull,

People here can't farking drive as it is, particularly on I-35 and especially around Norman and Oklahoma University. Stop encouraging this kind of bullshiat, assholes, and hire lawyers with some farking sense.

Love ya,

Oklahoma

Red Bull, performing a public service by encouraging slavishly conformist teen d-bags to kill themselves as fast as possible in their pathetic attempts to gain sponsorship and avoid any productive lifespan whatsoever.

/Overpriced sugar water for the stupid.

//Cody and Cody. How cute. "Very athletic" gay Oklahoma cowboys with matching names.

GoSurfing: Lots of money was used to paint the roads with lanes. Use them.

I thought that paint was used to paint the lines that mark the lanes.

You farkers in your little bubbles forget you are moving at least a ton of mass at high velocity.

Your solution for their unsafe driving is to actively attempt to run them off the road? Maybe you shouldn't drive, either.

GreySpectre [TotalFark] 2009-03-15 09:57:14 PM
Speed isnt an issue, speed difference is.
I don't have a problem with how fast they were going I have a problem with the fact that they were going fast enough to have to weave through traffic endagering others.
100+ mph is fine as long as everyone else is going the same speed as you, which they won't be on any highway.

You've obviously never lived in a real city before. Traffic on I-35 is a peaceful stroll through the park compared to Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York...

"I thought that paint was used to paint the lines that mark the lanes."

Wow, that was really, really, really lame.

Especially considering the fact I used paint in the form of a verb.

"Your solution for their unsafe driving is to actively attempt to run them off the road? Maybe you shouldn't drive, either."

You've never been mad in your life? It wasn't the solution, dense dumbass. I didn't actually go out and run someone off the road.

And it wasn't "unsafe" driving...it was reckless driving. Driving on the farking grass on an interstate highway isn't exactly "unsafe" it is way past that point.
You try working on the side of the road, until then, STFU.

But please, continue to submit what you think to be quippy comments.

No crap! I used to have to drive the 696 north of Detroit. If you didn't drive 85mph, you were a menace. I-35 is a cakewalk.
