Now that I fully understand the back story to this Madagascar meme I wish it a quick and painful death.

Damn that country for closing its port and never allowing me to win the game.

One of my greatest achievements in life was infecting Madagascar, after they closed their port. Don't ask me how it happened, but it did. Suck on THAT, President Madagascar.

Screw that game, I've come close but never won. I gave up on it when I found Hedgehog Launch (pops) and never looked back.

My Pandemic 2 strategy that usually works unless it takes an unusually long time for the disease to spread to Madagascar:

-Start as a Parasite. You want your visibility to be frickin' ZERO
-As soon as you start on the world map, sell whatever symptom you start with. Again, you need ZERO visibility
-Buy the first level heat/cold/moisture resistances, and then the second level ones
-Systematically buy the drug resistances all the say up to level 4

After this, you just watch and wait as the invisible parasite takes over the world. As long as your host country doesn't get so infected that Madagascar shuts down the port even though nobody's actually been killed by the parasite, you SHOULD be able to infect all of the countries.

-Once all of the countries are infected, you will have the points to buy the insect/rodent/water/air tranmissions. Buy them.
-Congrations, you have won the game. Now you just buy whatever symptoms you want as you gain the points and you just sit back and wringle your fingers as everyone who is infected in the world just drops like flies.

I see most of the points Drubell makes in pandemic 2 strategy, but I play with a major difference. I don't purchase drug resistance off the bat, instead waiting with points in reserve until the vaccine is developed, and buy a rank or three during the deployment phase. This tends to affect the effectiveness of the vaccine more. Just one of those great little details the game's makers put in there.
