Massie says investigators will present their findings to a district attorney who will decide if criminal charges will be filed.

Then they up his sentence from never getting out to never EVER getting out.

I know. My first take was that the guards purposefully did it. If they had the tiniest ability to think it through, though, they'd surely know that the results would lead to State liability (assuming it's a State institution) and the ending of the jobs of the involved guard personnel. You may be right, though. Sometimes stupid knows no bounds.

Duran and Dalton were co-defendants in the January 2002 shooting death of Billy Wayne Ray in Oklahoma City.

Anyone with three first names probably had it coming.

Massie says the two were not supposed to be put in the same cell and prison officials are trying to determine how it happened.

It probably happened the same way the accused pedophile priest was transferred out of his safe prison to share a cell in another prison with a violent killer who held a grudge against homosexuals. Just coincidence.

I LOL'd. We could save a lot of money and prevent overcrowding if the state pens made more sleeping arrangements like this.

I hope his family bankrupts that state.

Actually, the article states his full name as Jesse James Dalton. That's one hell of a legacy. Maybe you guys have never heard of the Dalton Gang...

Yeah, his middle name is James. And if this is the same Jesse James Dalton I know, these murders are no surprise. He clames to be a descendant of the outlaw Dalton clan of the late 19th century.

No, he got a death sentence for getting out of a murder rap by ratting out his co-conspirator. Get it straight. ;)

Neither of which I really have any particular problem with. Robbing people is unacceptable, what happens to you after you are caught doing so is of no concern to me.

Somebody wanted both to die for the original murder, and now they're halfway there.

Next will be the execution of the soon to be twice convicted murderer. Nice and tidy.

With all the money the prison-industrial complex gets, why not give each inmate his own cell, half the size of the current cells?

SteamPoweredAeroPlane 2009-03-14 09:17:16 AM
I'm thinking it was an accident, just not the kind they're thinking about. TFA said dead guy was in a fight before getting transferred - putting young 'wild' inmates in with serious badasses to beat manners into them isn't actually uncommon. It also said he was found dead 15 minutes later... that's about the time you'd leave a couple guys alone, expect one to get a serious ass kicking, and then conveniently 'happen by and break it up'. I think the accident was the first guy was a hell of a lot tougher (or madder) than the guards in question bargained for.

You know, if the state decides they are going to take custody of people, the state should have the responsibility for keeping them safe.

Jesse James Dalton.

Two of the biggest troublemakers in my high school were named Jesse James Johnson. Funny part was that one of them was an extremely skinny guy, the other really fat. The wrong one was always getting called to the office for something the other one did.

J.J.: "That wasn't me, it was the other Jesse Johnson."
Principal: "Yeah right!"

peppercorn 2009-03-14 09:49:34 AM
That was soo not an accident. You do not just put a prisioner in a cell, you assign him through a computer and that program has a list of 'no contacts'. There is no way that when he was assigned to that cell a red flag was not generated.

I'm betting on intentional. Prison staff play this game in the UK too - it's called "Gladiators" and involves staff betting on the result. The most notorious case involved a young asian man put in a cell with a racist murderer. Or as he was shortly afterwards, racist double murderer.

Wow, that sucks. Im pretty sure that both people where pieces of shiat, but If prisons cant keep this kind of thing from happening, I dont blame anyone who doesnt want to testify if they are both going to the same prison.

soj4life 2009-03-14 11:05:49 AM
Why were they in the same prison to begin with? This is one of the rare cases that I hope the family hires the aclu and goes to town on the prison and state.

THIS....

Exactly. We send people to prison to pay for their crimes. When that prison allows inmates to be raped, beaten and killed, then at the least it becomes cruel and unusual punishment, and I would LOVE to start seeing heads roll at prisons when shiat like this happens.
