Joe Biden is a very smart man who has no idea how to use his words.

It's like there's a complete disconnect from his brain to his mouth.

This is why I was so glad to see Biden named as Obama's running mate. This presidency would be boring without him. Joe hasn't let me down yet.

Agreed. He's the gift that keeps on giving. He really knows his shiat on Foreign Policy, but you'd never know that from the way he talks. Yes, he has said many things I disagree with, but he at least understands the subject.

Biden is the Prince Philip of America.

"If you stay here much longer, you'll all be slitty-eyed."

To a British student in Papua New Guinea: "You managed not to get eaten then?"

On a visit to the new National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff, he told a group of deaf children standing next to a Jamaican steel drum band, "Deaf? If you are near there, no wonder you are deaf."

In 2002, he asked an Indigenous Australian businessman, "Do you still throw spears at each other?"

Wait, what? I think the theme you refer to is "you misunderstood him." w/ RE: to Bush. When Joe puts his foot in his mouth, he sounds like a retard. He does it quite often, you can set your watch by it. Joe at least understands what the hell he's talking about, even with the gaffes. Bush never had a care in the world as to what went on around him.

Joe Biden was groomed by Sen. Claiborne Pell. He is aware of our current Foreign Policy situation. He just can't speak for shiat. You should have been there for Sen. Pell's funeral. Biden was ungaffe'd and amazingly eloquent.

Yeah, this is what I was going to say. Basically, one of his former colleagues addressed him by a formal title and Biden basically told him to give me a farkin' break. In other words, dude, I'm still Joe. That's sort of refreshing after the (f-bomb dropping) power trip the last VP took.

NewportBarGuy [TotalFark] 2009-03-14 01:57:53 AM
Winktologist: I pray that's the only similarity to Bush.

Watch his eugoogly of Sen. Pell I linked. For some reason the guy has foot in mouth-itis, in many situation, not that one. And, I am not a huge fan of the guy anyway for backing the bankruptcy bill sponsored by his Delaware-based financial firms.

That bill was horrible on many levels. So, if anyone thinks I'm a Biden apologist, that bill was one of the worst things ever passed by Congress.

I love his gaffes because it provides some form of entertainment for a news junkie like myself. He's not stupid, he just shoots from the hip when he speaks. I hope there is never a need for him to be POTUS. Dear God, help us.

You forgot "The future will be better tomorrow."

And personally, after the last eight years, I'd rather have a VP that didn't let the job get to his head. I hope rather strongly that nothing happens to Obama that would make Biden Pres, but he's a damn sight better than Pres Palin.

In response to that, I think Joe Biden put it best when he said "Gimme a f*&$#ing break." I'm sure the Obama administration, even after eight years, will still have to bow before the kings of gaff.

I came here to say this, and will only add that Cheney's foul mouth was for the purpose of menacing others and exerting power. Biden's was pretty much to express a general annoyance. Big difference in my book, but to prim ninnies curse words are equally bad and context meaningless.

Biden:

THE PROS
- Not keen on torturing people
- So far, does not appear to be running a second channel of faulty foreign intelligence analysis, by unqualified people, directly out of his office, in order to build false cases for foreign wars that fit his neoconservative ideology
- Staff has not leaked any CIA agents' covers for political reasons yet
- Probably not running an assassination ring out of his office (Threats from Rahm probably sufficient to subdue any enemies without need for actual assassination.)
- Deviates from talking points in hilarious ways, regularly
- All the Bidens are pretty good lookin' people. Back when Biden was first elected? Definitely hot.
- Actually has paid attention to foreign affairs for most of his career and appears to be competent in a number of different areas of public policy. Has admirable record on things as varied as public transit and feminist issues.
- To repeat, he is hilariously awesome at a time when hilarity is at an all-time low. I believe the hilarity index is trading at 1997 levels, or roughly, "Ross and Rachel are so zany!"
- Swears a lot. This is relatable for a filthy sailor-mouthed person like me

CONS
- "Darth Biden" just doesn't sound right
- Has not claimed to have invented anything ubiquitously popular. Suggestions for Mr. Biden's office - microwaves; PVRs; an iPhone application; the Amazon Kindle; Sudoku
- Lacks mystery. Specifically: the mystery of nobody knowing where the "undisclosed location" bunker was.
- Has only written one book. Oh wait, this is a pro. Political books are usually terrible unless they're tell-all, burn-all-bridges memoirs full of scandalous revelations about drugs and affairs.
- Is mostly restoring honour and dignity to the traditional advisory role of the VP. By which I mean, he hasn't f*cking shot anyone in the face yet and then forced that guy to apologize for getting his face in the way of the buckshot.

Oh boo frickedy hoo, he said the f word. Like any reasonable adult can honestly castigate him for doing the same thing they do. When I read into this context I get the picture of Biden being like "gimme a farking break, you don't need to address me like that".

But I mean he said it where people can hear him so this is a gaffe right? Nobody else swears! Like he said in post #2, we all quit that years ago, right?
