This can't be accurate, unless Barney Frank has a prostitution ring running out of his apartment again.

Calling a woman a "butt boy", thinking it's hilarious to use a derogatory gay term, and accusing the listeners of looking for a reason to leave. The whole statement is fail.

Considering the drubbing Stewart gave Cramer tonight, I'd love to see him take on Big Fat Idiot. Of course, Limbaugh would probably eat him before the segment.

Probably not. If Stewart manages to outrun him for about 10 yards, Rush would probably get winded and collapse on the floor.

Or, I don't know. They could put a face mask on Limbaugh like they did on Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs.

Random Reality Check 2009-03-13 05:53:49 AM

On the occasion of William F. Buckley Jr's death, Rush related the following story about a discussion he had earlier had with his father,

I'm the only member of my family I think that doesn't have a college degree. He was very concerned he was a failure as a father, and I remember telling him, "Well, I want to be like Bill Buckley."

Well, all these years later, I believe we can see that Rush Limbaugh's father was right, he was a failure. I'm reasonably sure that Bill Buckley would never have even considered using the term "Butt Boy".

Rush Limbaugh - strengthening the level of enlightened discourse in the Republican Party since 1988.

Looks like I'll be the first conser- I mean independent libertarian to comment on this.

Bottom line (pun not intended): This is no clever double entendre. This is no remark isolated from proper context. This...is offensive. I find it offensive. Now, I'm no stranger to harsh language (I'd call most of you worse than I do if I could get away with it, in jest, or otherwise), but this transcript is completely out of line. He might as well have used the term "fag hag." Completely unacceptable in my view.

FRANK: "I think it's a problem, although I will say this - for the media to blame that entirely on the Senate seems to me a little bit self serving, I mean, the media is the problem here, in part. It is the over-focus on part of people in the media to relatively minor infractions that causes this. I guarantee you my colleagues would not on their own be doing this. So I do think we are in a culture now where a lack of perfection exacts too strong a toll, but that's the politicians reacting to the media."

MITCHELL: "I take your point, Mr. Frank, Mr. Chairman," Mitchell said. "You're right and we plead guilty because this is this culture right now of 'gotcha' has gotten completely out of control."

captain_heroic44 2009-03-13 06:38:52 AM
Barney Frank blames the media for the fact that they're focusing on too many tax cheats who otherwise would be great employees at the Treasury Department.

Worth pointing out that this isn't what Frank and Mitchell were talking about at all. They were speaking in more general terms about the media playing "gotcha" journalism with the Obama administration.

I haven't heard a non-gay person use that term yet, just saying.

Of course, if Rush were gay I would have no problem with that... I would have an even bigger problem with his rampant hypocrisy though.

Listen, I despise Limbaugh's politics, but there's no way you can call him a failure. He's living the American Dream -- exploiting gullible, uneducated masses for fun and profit. They're right there, ripe for the picking -- it would be wrong for Rush not to take advantage of their ignorance and assorted phobias to cash in for himself.

crab66: Republicans sure have a weird fixation on all things gay for being so against it.

The massively repressed homoeroticism of today's conservative movement is comedy gold.

I do some work with a local college campus. I remember when the movie "300" came out; a movie featuring buff men thrusting their pelvises out as they strutted around in ensembles consisting entirely of a leather strap and a cape. I overheard a group of ROTC Nazis practically vibrating about how great it was.

When I was in college, I sort of dismissed the theory that homophobia is strongly correlated with repressed homosexuality. I thought it was just a clever thing that was used to insult right-wingers. But as I've gotten older, man, I see it more and more. I have no doubt that the majority of homophobes struggle internally with their sexuality. There's just no other reason for anyone to be as focused on gay sex as conservatives are.

1) Sure, Limbaugh is a financial success. But to say there's "no way you can call him a failure" is overstating it. The man has led the race of American political discourse on its plummet to the bottom for the last 20 years. He's become rich by hurting the country. Maybe al-qaeda would consider that "success." Others might regard it as a sort of colossal failure.

2) Stewart ANNIHILATED Cramer last night. Cramer looked like he was about to cry during the whole interview. Epic TV, meet epic thread.

I agree. If TV and AM radio have taught me anything, it's that the new conservatives value cogent debate, civility, and intellectual honesty when discussing matters that affect us. I am saddened to see that one of the GOP's annexed talking heads-cum party godhead would consider such language as part of the healthy debate between ideologies.

In a movie centered around militarism, gore, killing Persians, banging the wife before deployment, and then dying in battle - you think ROTC cadets are focused on the loincloths of Spartans who historically fought naked (which means you are focused on the loincloths). Looks like I hit a nerve. = D

I'm comfortable with my sexuality, sweety. You'd be better off to get comfortable with yours. Really you would.

I can't say it any better than Chris Hitchens did in this review of "The Passion." Link (new window)

But it came back to me this week that an associate of his had once told me, in lacerating detail, that an evening with Mel was one long fiesta of boring but graphic jokes about anal sex. I've since had that confirmed by other sources. And, long before he emerged as the spear-carrier for the sort of Catholicism once preached by Gen. Franco and the persecutors of Dreyfus, Mel Gibson attained a brief notoriety for his loud and crude attacks on gays. Now he's become the proud producer of a movie that relies for its effect almost entirely on sadomasochistic male narcissism. The culture of blackshirt and brownshirt pseudomasculinity, as has often been pointed out, depended on some keen shared interests. Among them were massively repressed homoerotic fantasies, a camp interest in military uniforms, an obsession with flogging and a hatred of silky and effeminate Jews.

Rush Limbaugh has done more to damage the republican party than the democrats, in their wildest dreams, could ever do... and he's making money hand over fist doing it.

Honestly, I don't understand the appeal of his show.

Rush says some inane shiat. Plays some clips he thinks prove his inane points. Inane callers call up to proclaim they agree with Rush's inane proclamations... repeat ad nauseam.

I'll admit he's good for a laugh or two, but certainly not worth listening to for three hours to get those couple of chuckles.

Wait wait... you called me a Fifth Columnist for pointing out the homoerotic subtext of 300--and you're accusing me of "forced emphasis? Irony. Look it up.

It was a fantastic and successful effort. You actually accused me of treason because I didn't like 300, and because I correctly pointed out that those who enjoyed were closet cases.

How do I know I wasn't focused on the loincloths in an repressed homosexual way? If I want to masturbate to buff men, I don't feel the need to wrap my fantasies in the cloak of brownshirt pseudomasculinity. By constrast, militarists, like you feel a powerful need to bury your homoeroticism beneath layers of "militarism, gore, killing Persians, banging the wife before deployment, and then dying in battle."

Following that logic, a lot of people who listen to Rush are probably centrists who prefer right-leaning talking points.
