From the Wiki page for his new album:

"Describing the album as a whole, Cornell compared it to Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Queen's A Night at the Opera, citing the psychedelic elements that Timbaland brought into the production."

Comparing your new album to two of the greatest albums in music history is a good way to invite comments like Reznor's. I haven't heard it so I can't comment on its quality, but damn, dude...don't set expectation so high.

Yeah, it's not for him to rate it; it's for the audience to say yeah or nay. This crap puts him in the Noel Gallagher category.

And I believe Trent Reznor is a farking musical genius, and have since the first time I watched him drag his equipment out of a van back in the late 80's.

Rev.K: Ghosts I-IV and The Slip were two very excellent releases.

Year Zero was also a very big step up from With Teeth. Yeah, so he'll probably never top the musical creativity of The Fragile again. The man still writes enjoyable songs.

The Fragile is also my favorite of his, followed closely by Downward Spiral. I remember reading how he was deep into alcoholism during the whole recording/producing process of Fragile which explains why it sounds the way it does. His whole new steroid look and heavy drum stuff doesn't really do it for me, although Ghosts was solid.

You know Chris Cornell must be REALLY hurting for cash when he makes a dance album with Timbaland.

Cobain must be spinning in his grave.

NorCalLos 2009-03-12 02:13:31 PM
stay classy, trent.

/likes nin, agrees about cornell's album

irockalot 2009-03-12 02:13:55 PM
Well, in his defense, Trent wasn't really attacking Chris. There's a whole other twist to this rant that was missed due to Trent's poor grammar. It was supposed to go like this:

" You know that feeling you get when somebody embarrasses themselves so badly YOU feel uncomfortable? Heard Chris Cornell's record, Jesus?"

See? Trent Reznor, always cutting out the middle man.

McCheeseus 2009-03-12 02:15:35 PM
Chris,

As a Soundgarden fan and owner of all your previous albums, please start drinking again.

well, Dr Dre did produce that one NIN track...

but it was one of my favorites off The Fragile.

Blues_X [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 02:31:51 PM
I'm listening to the album on the Chris Cornell website.

I'm on song three, and so far all I've heard is a boatload of suck with some electronic noise thrown in.

Kim Thayil, where are you in our time of need?

Nemo's Brother 2009-03-12 02:40:06 PM
Cornell's voice isn't what it used to be.

mahoggin 2009-03-12 02:42:50 PM
Actually, submitter, not everyone was thinking that. I hadn't thought about Chris Cornell in years.

/btw, big thanks for bringing him back to mind. sheesh.

InferiousX [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-03-12 02:56:47 PM
I'm listening to this guy, constantly reminding myself that this is the guy from Audioslave/Soundgarden. And I'm just stunned.

This isn't the worst thing i've ever heard. But "I Jizzed In My Pants" is a better song than this first track i'm listening too.

NicoFinn [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 03:10:48 PM
This album is a joke, right?

tillerman35 2009-03-12 03:17:37 PM
Saw him as one of the opener for Linkin Park. As always, I have to give a certain measure of respect to anyone willing to get up in front of a crowd and try to entertain. However, honest compels me to admit that, yeah, he was obviously some kind of a talentless douchebag.

Gangway Fathead 2009-03-12 03:18:05 PM
I'm the one guy who actually liked Cornell's Bond theme from Casino Royale.

But the samples I've heard of teh new album. Not so much.

Never!! Was forced to spend three weeks in Audio Engineering courses remixing and mastering this song. Hate hate hate it.

FreeLoveFreeway 2009-03-12 03:30:18 PM
Cornell broke his rusty cage a long time ago. The "Casino Royale" theme song was cool but that's the last thing I can remember enjoying from him.

Take it from this guy, if anyone is an expert on talentless douchebags, it's a Linkin Park fan.

MikoSquiz 2009-03-12 03:39:43 PM
He's never done anything I'd regard as straight-up bad before. Even Audioslave were OK, by and large.

But this shiat? Jesus. Chris, put down the crack pipe and go back to drinking.

That is one big vortex of suck right there. I'd rather listen to Operator--the Chris Cornell knock-off.

mofomisfit 2009-03-12 04:03:58 PM
You know what I think Chris Cornell should do? Cover "Life on Mars." Apparently he sings the theme song or whatever for the show "Life on Mars" which is what put this into my head to begin with. The man has some pipes, and I think he could do a great job with the song.

And that is what Chris Cornell should do.

Cornell's Scream ain't Soundgarden. Jetison those first two tracks and it's pretty good.

Actually, I was there with my kid, and it was his first concert ever so cut him a break, eh? He just wanted to hear the Transformers theme song. I'm well over 40, so none of the crap you kids call "music" these days appeals to me anyway. And get off my lawn.

palexc 2009-03-12 04:23:20 PM
Bob Mould tried to do the same thing, going electronic to break out of a creativity slump. It too, was awful.

Hope you're feeling better that you got this out of your system Chris, now get back to making good music.

TheKingOfMexico 2009-03-12 04:37:01 PM
Aw, dammit. I listened to the whole thing on his site, and I can't hate it. I don't even LIKE pop music in the least, and I hold Soundgarden extremely dear in my memory of the Seattle scene, so I'm a perfect candidate to despise this thing with every molecule in my tired body. But, I've heard much worse. Sonofabiatch! Stupid diverse Cornell.

STRYPERSWINE 2009-03-12 04:47:39 PM
It's on track to sell 20,000-25,000 in the first week, which is really really bad, especially considering how much publicity it's already gotten. Looks like Cornell and Axl have something in common once again.

If diversity means hiring a bunch of "hot" producers and putting out manufactured garbage on par with something Britney Spears could do, then he's very diverse. But whatever, he's 45. Some people burn out and lose their creative passion as time goes by, but they still need to pay the bills. Either that, or he's so deluded that he thinks he's a really good singer.

Bob Ondeeznuts 2009-03-12 05:18:58 PM
I'll give him credit for trying something different but god damn that album is terrible ("take me alive" is ok). On his website he says he pushed Amazon to sell the album for $2.99.

Honestly, imho, he did used to be a really good singer. Love Soundgarden and alot of his solo recordings. I even liked some of the Audioslave tracks. But this I can't get into.

As for the rest of your post, See: Metallica

Seriously, does anyone really still care what Trent Reznor has to say about anything? The guy is so irrelevant that I'm suprised he doesn't just blink out of existence.

Nemo's Brother 2009-03-12 05:31:53 PM
Cornell has always been more concerned about his looks than his music.
