This guy is a sleeper agent. There's no way he's working for the good of the GOP. I think he's a troll IRL.

He's Burntdan's alt.

From a TalkingPointsMemo reader this a.m.:
I think that with a lot of Michael Steele's gaffes, he seems to say whatever he perceives to be the opinion of the person to whom he is speaking at the moment. Then later he has to backtrack because it doesn't match the conservative orthodoxy. Take a look back at all the misstatements he has made and to whom he has made them. The man is a mirror. He just reflects back what he thinks you want him to say.

Seems about right to me.

Did they chop off his balls before they let him have the RNC chair?

Meh, no one cares what Steele thinks anyway. They take their marching orders from Rush.

I really think Bush believed in the crap he was selling-anti-science, pro-jeebus, turrists, etc; he isn't a bright man, but committed to what he believes in, right or wrong.
Steele is Charlie Brown style wishy-washy, I imagine he wakes up every morning thinking "How the hell did I get to be RNC Chair?" His opinion changes more than I change my socks.

And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large political party.
And you may find yourself with a minority in the House, with a minority in the Senate.
And you may ask yourself- well, how did I get here?

Actually, if he really is a good 'mirror', then he's very good at getting power. Just terrible about doing anything with it once he's there.

This is great. I hope for a long, drawn-out struggle over the chairmanship ending with replacing Steele with someone to the right of Ann Coulter.

I can just imagine legions of Democratic strategists eating popcorn and watching TV all day..."What can we do that these idiots aren't doing to themselves?"

Sorry, Micheal.

I know you're trying to get educated, pro-military, fiscal conservative, social moderates back to being active in the party.

But St. Ronnie made a deal with the fundies, and you're not going to get out of it. ALL MUST BE PRO LIFE. So sayeth the Reagan.

The Republican party is now just a loosely affiliated group of whack jobs. At least Bush/Rove then McCain/Palin gave them a nucleus of stupidity. Now they are being stupid in all sorts of random directions to the point that they are actually being smart by accident sometimes.

Pick a leader and go with it. Palin, Paul, Romney, Huckabee, Norris, Arnold. If they were smart, they would pick whichever person was most vocal against Bush.

Don't like them, accept they are sometimes necessary, think they should be handled prudently.

I don't view an embryo in the first trimester as human life, and after that I support abortion in the case of medical complications for the mother.

/Against death penalty, so I'm pretty much the type of person you were asking about

It's the inconsistent views people hold that irks me. I completely understand being against both.

Michael Steele, will you marry me?

Truncks1 2009-03-12 01:55:16 PM
I almost feel bad for him.

Trying to say what you think and filtering out all the stuff that Rush or the GOP disagrees with must be really hard.

He's trying to get more moderates and minorities to cross over to the Republicans, but that's really hard to do with all the fundies breathing down your neck. Which is why it will never happen, and each time he tries he looks more like a spineless tool.

David Frum summarized the problem nicely in Newsweek.

I've been telling myself for years now, "Okay, that's the dumbest thing that a Republican will ever say" and time after time they keep proving me wrong. We've gone way past zero credibility / rationality and have moved far into the negative range.

I see why you think that. I guess it's just the principle for me: if killing innocent life should be legal then the same rules should apply for what society has deemed as the ultimate guilty, for those whose actions have terminated their right to remain alive.

The when life begins part of the debate always throws a wrench into things.

FWIW I'd completely agree with you if I viewed an embryo in the first trimester as human life, at which point I'd be against any abortions (that were not done for the medical safety of the mother) and against the death penalty.
