i find it amusing that kevin shields once sued the pub next door for being too noisy!

Awesome, they're coming as close as... Texas? Dammit.

though I'm inclined to agree, I'm not sure MBV would be able to do a viable full US tour outside a handful of the big cities. Especially since not only is nigh impossible for Kevin to release a new album, let alone those endlessly delayed remasters.

And it's only a few blocks from the office! I am so there - I just hope tickets don't sell out too soon.

point me in the right direction if you do as apparently they're not on sale until next week.

Heh, nevermind - tickets don't hit the Internet pre-sale until Wednesday the 18th.

I'm pretty sure they could sell out a show in Minneapolis, but they're not coming anywhere else in the midwest, since they did Chicago last time. farkers.

Yeah, I think you've got a little misdirected hate there. Shoegaze doesn't have much in common with emo at all.

from the bootlegs I've heard, the drums do sound fuller. Loveless' drums sound "tinny" as they do due to Colm being sick and the drum tracks largely consisting of loops of what they had recorded from him at the time.

Saw them here in Chicago in October. I thought I'd see what happened if I removed one earplug for a second. I am now deaf in my left ear. Great show.

Are you morons confusing them with My Chemical Romance? Christ, the difference between the two crowds will be enormous.

that and probably Bullet For My Valentine.

but then again, this is Fark: Where any song that is not about how much you want to \m/RAWK!\m/ and is even slightly less depressing than MMMBop = Emo.

Here at Fark, if it isn't AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, or Rush, it is therefore emo and sucks. Hey, here's a clue Farkers: try listening to something other than the "classic RAWK" station. You might actually find some stuff you like.

I guess I should have figured. MBV has been around for about 20 years, and yet the Fark music experts don't even know who they are.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. LIMP BIZKIT RULEZZZ!!

paraffinshot 2009-03-12 04:55:47 PM
The last time I saw MBV is was the most painfully loud experience of my life. The air moved by the speakers alone made it seem like there was a strong breeze in the club and I felt like someone was playing my sternum with a kick drum pedal. People were passing out in the audience and my tinnitus lasted for days afterward. It was pretty rad.

Deaf hipsters want to get murdered in a mine?

Brentmeister General 2009-03-12 05:33:41 PM
No. No. No.

My wife is a huge fan. I listened to Loveless a few times, kind of enjoyed it. Not really my thing, but I could appreciate it and what they were doing.

They came through Chicago last year and I bought tickets for us. I knew it was going to be loud. My wife told me, I read reviews of their live shows. Loud, ok, I got it. I had no idea. The earplugs worked, thankfully.

But fark them. Loud doesn't bother me, some of my favorite bands are played LOUD and I enjoy them fully. But, I got the feeling from their little 30 minute attack on the audience at the end of the show that they were just flipping us off. Like I had blown around 70 bucks (with fees and all) for them to crap in my face and ask if I liked it.

No, I don't. It instantly turned me off, and my wife now knows better than to play anything by MBV in my presence. She can dig them all she wants. To me, they'll always be a group of wankers who took my money.

You'll be right in saying things like, "You should have left" or "You sound like a gay." Don't care. Screw em.

Kodiak Attack 2009-03-12 06:35:12 PM
Ah yes, the "apocalypse" section of You Made Me Realise that people have been talking about. I think it's more of an experiment with massive amounts of sound rather than a "fark you" to the audience, though if you're not aware that they do this beforehand, I could see how you'd be royally pissed off.

/prepping myself for the sonic experiment
//going to stand in front of a turbine for a while

Oh yeah, it should be quite an interesting experience. I've felt kick drums go through me before at a Wolf Eyes show (which was pretty awesome), but this is probably going to be that x1000.

to each their own and all that, but they definitely weren't trying to piss anyone off. that's just what they do. there'd likely be people a lot more people feeling they blew $70 or whatever if they DIDN'T do that at the end of their set. that being said, i wouldn't recommend any mogwai shows for you in the near future.

/mbv is stoner music for aging hipsters.

I just read this whole thread thinking "My Bloody Valentine" was "Bullet for my Valentine," and couldn't understand why the music snobs were defending a young band.

Now I see the error of my ways...

As has been said, 5 shows is not a tour. And they could easily sell out multiple shows in lots of big cities. Hell they could probably do a week in NYC AND Chicago AND LA AND Boston AND...well you get the idea.

while the guys in shellac may disagree, i would consider 5 dates to be a stint on the road.

eh, maybe if they were promoting a new album, I can sort of see it. Considering this seems to be more of a lead up to something more, I don't see a "real" tour happening until at least next year.

i saw a noise band show in Chicago, LoveLiesCrushing. It prolly wasn't as loud as an MBV show. It was quite hypnotic though.

Color me clueless. What happened?

Kodiak Attack 2009-03-13 01:23:53 PM
Pyynk: During the MBV song "You Made Me Realise", there's a section that breaks down into a noisewall at the 1:40 mark and lasts for about 40 seconds. When they play it live, they've been known to take that noisewall section and make it go for up to 40 minutes.

You Made Me Realise (studio version)
You Made Me Realise (live in '89) (only a 2:15 minute noisewall on this one)

their Xuvetyn album is probably the best post-MBV shoegaze album.

Agreed. Thanks for the recommendation on that one in a thread a while back, I've been really enjoying it over the last month or so. I'm thinking of picking up their album Voirshn - are you familiar with it (and can you recommend it)?
