Hey farkhead maybe your partisan eyes were blinded to it but Gonzalez/Rove masterminded a real conspiracy to put only openly Republican (not just conservative) candidates into career DOJ positions.

I know your pathetic mind can't comprehend the immense failure and embarrassment of the GWB administration, but Siegelman's case was never more than an anecdote of the immense corruption of Karl Rove.

In conclusion, as usual, go fark yourself.

So lets see the "logic" here. If the charges are made to stick, its prosecution wasn't politically motivated or orchestrated from the White House. Is that it?

Um, okay.

as opposed to the logic that Karl Rove directed the prosecution of Siegelman to career federal prosecutors, a federal judge, a jury and a federal appeals court all without leaving one single bit of evidence that he was involved.

Nicely done twofer: False choice straw man. Impressive.

You also jumped to conclusions, as I presented no argument, simply mocked your pathetic attempt at one.

You can order a political prosecution that finds that someone, in fact, broke the law. If you can't, what good does it do?

you can apparently also accuse someone of committing a political prosecution without any evidence

TofuTheAlmighty 2009-03-12 02:10:47 PM
Unsurprisingly, the three judge panel comprised three Republican appointees (one by Reagan, two by Ford).

Siegelman's appeal for the full court to look over the case probably won't help him - Clinton's appointees are outnumbered 2:1 by Republican judges.

Actually, there was enough evidence that is being looked into. Soon enough we will know more.

I would like more details on what happened with this? What charges were dropped and kept?

Basically the verdict says, "Who are we to overturn the decision of the jury?"

As far as "no evidence":

A longtime Republican lawyer in Alabama swears she heard a top G.O.P. operative in the state say that Rove "had spoken with the Department of Justice" about "pursuing" Siegelman, with help from two of Alabama's U.S. attorneys.
...

According to Simpson's statement, William Canary, a senior G.O.P. political operative and Riley adviser who was on the conference call, said "not to worry about Don Siegelman" because "'his girls' would take care of" the governor. Canary then made clear that "his girls" was a reference to his wife, Leura Canary, the U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, and Alice Martin, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama.

Canary reassured others on the conference call - who also included Riley's son, Rob, and Terry Butts, another Riley lawyer and former justice of the Alabama supreme court - that he had the help of a powerful pal in Washington. Canary said "not to worry - that he had already gotten it worked out with Karl and Karl had spoken with the Department of Justice and the Department of Justice was already pursuing Don Siegelman," the Simpson affidavit says. Both U.S. attorney offices subsequently indicted Siegelman on a variety of charges, although Leura Canary recused herself from dealing with the case in May 2002. A federal judge dismissed the Northern District case before it could be tried, but Siegelman was convicted in the Middle District on bribery and conspiracy charges last June.

Now everyone supposedly on the call denies the allegations. But there are, in fact, allegations of someone who claims to have participated in the conference call and therefore is what is known as a "witness". The witness is a Republican whose career is clearly not advanced by these allegations. Quite plainly, she is ending her political career with these allegations.

This is not "no evidence" as you stated.

I actually worked with Don Siegelman some in the mid nineties when he was Lt. Gov and I was working for Governor James. I knew his chief aid, Nick Bailey, fairly well and hung out at bars with him. Bailey was the one who testified against Siegelman. Nick's nickname was The Shadow since everywhere Don went Nick was with him. I think Nick even went on vacation with the Siegelman's. Don's reputation in Montgomery was very corrupt but, of course, around there that wasn't anything new.

Yes you are being a coward. You know there is no evidence out there but you will not admit it. The only thing is rumor and Jill Simpson's statements. I love that Karl Rove would trust such a sensitive mission to a woman who's experience in the Bush campaign was putting up yard signs.
