I tried to submit this same story there Subby and I have the same sentiment that you do. This billboard is going to suck.

sullyman 2009-03-12 09:19:18 AM
Yowza. Why don't you just serve up a softball there DNC. Too easy to turn that against you with a little spray paint or a billboard right next to it.

FlashHarry [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:25:00 AM
every time the DNC tries to do something like this, they fail miserably. same goes for moveon.org and their horrible "general betray us" ad.

they really should save their money and just sit back and watch the GOP self-destruct on its own.

dj_bigbird [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:25:25 AM
It's amusing that the DNC has this much time (and money) to obsess over one blowhard with a radio show.

FlashHarry [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:25:59 AM
one more thing: i'm a writer/producer at an ad agency. one of the first things you learn as a cub copywriter is to resist the urge to go for the easy pun.

/getting a kick out of these replies, etc.

exactly. i am fairly conservative, and Rush is fun to listen to as a joke, but if anyone thinks that the republicans take him seriously or view him as a leader, than rush's ploy is working.

Well, you're completely wrong there. There are millions that follow him like a cult.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:33:17 AM
THAT's the best choice? Well, that definitely does sound like the DNC.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:34:17 AM
I guess the well wasn't so deep after "Big Fat Idiot" was already taken.

Senescent Dawn 2009-03-12 09:34:20 AM
Why, oh why, are the Democrats hammering this point into the ground? Jesus, be a little delicate. If you make it too obvious that you're gaming the Republicans, people will stop taking this point seriously. And I love watching them take it seriously. I love watching Steele apologize to Rush. If you take that away from me, DNC, it's over for us.

Jesus. How embarrassing. Almost as witty as Freedom Fries. (not saying that was a DNC thing)
It would make me happy to hear Obama say STFU.

Only if Pelosi lets him take his balls out of her purse long enough to do so.

ExJerseyGirl [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:43:20 AM
I thought it was mildly amusing. But why the hell would the DNC bother with an anti-Rush billboard in the first place? TO give him more press?

DarthBrooks [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:43:48 AM
That's worse than when the Washington Post started up their pay-to-read website, WashingtonPost.com:

"Dot Com And Get It!"

It was on every damn newspaper machine in every Metro station in DC. For like a YEAR.

I disagree. It will be the coolest thing, ever.

cousin-merle 2009-03-12 09:49:21 AM
To be fair, the other top 4 choices were just as bad.

* "Americans didn't vote for a Rush to failure"

* "Hope and change cannot be Rush'd"

* "Failure is not an option for America's future"

* "We can fix America, just don't Rush it"

* "Rush: Say yes to America"

FTFY

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:58:56 AM
The DNC was stupid for going there in the first place. Doubly bad that they were so lame in doing it.

Bloody William 2009-03-12 09:59:20 AM
Booooooo.shiat, if they really wanted to stick it in his craw, they should have just put up a billboard exactly like the one with W. after the '04 election, that shows a picture of Obama and simply says "Our President."

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:59:39 AM
You'll never get more Rush on Rushmore.
Good God, man, I'm only one mountain!

/So he would have to be running for President for that to make sense.

FlashHarry [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 09:59:55 AM

This. I can't believe they're still treating this overblown assbag like he matters. Even acknowledging him at all is conferring legitimacy on him that he hasn't earned and doesn't deserve. He is completely insignificant, and should be regarded as such. Even a punchline like Michael Steele knows he's "an entertainer." And he's not even a GOOD one.

Q: Hey, what's the difference between Rush Limbaugh an a 350-pound sack of $#!+?

A: The sack.

Sorry, try again.

I'm not doubting that you listen to him to get a laugh and don't take him seriously, but there are many people whose comments on politics can be directly traced back to Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.

When we had the contest here, I suggested something similar: "Impotent rage won't put food on the table."

SmashLimousines [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-03-12 10:21:02 AM
That's quite clever. I think the reason people don't like it is because they don't really "get it." You see, it uses his name, Rush, as the word "rush," which means, among other things, "to act with haste." This pun is intentional, I believe. Even though the word is capitalized in the slogan, I still don't think people realize the double meaning.

What does that even mean? I've tried to think of every way that could be possibly, remotely witty, and I don't see it. It's just random words out of order. Since I work in advertising, I have seen higher-ups and clients choose or demand some horrible, illogical slogans... but that may be the worst I have ever seen in my life.

It's a combination of the "dot com phenomenon" (yes, it hurts to type that) and the phrase "come and get it." It's stupid, but that's what the intended meaning is.

This. I've seen posts on this board that I'm fairly sure are verbatim quotes from Rush or Hannity or another one of those garbage shows. They cheapen and coarsen political discourse.

And the fact that the head of the RNC had to beg forgiveness for daring to say something bad about Rush validates this Democratic line of attack far more than anything the Democrats themselves have done. Which is why the "Wah, the White House is wasting time attacking Rush!" line is nonsense. They aren't doing a bit of work about this now. They don't have to. They threw the first bomb and the Republicans have been doing the work for them since.

I like a lot of these much more.

Personally though I think that the DNC should of just let it go. There are a lot of more pressing issues to be dealt with than Mr. Oxyominican. By doing something else like actually helping the economy rather than engaging in party squabbles they (the DNC) would paint themselves in a much better light over the RNC. But instead they want to do something like this and they lower themselves to these standards.

Like a silly billboard?

2. Stop calling Obama our "messiah"

Is this a warning to rush or is this a warning to the administration? The admin sure looks like they are rushing to get thier policies in place. Does this mean the DNC thinks that Obama is going to be a failure?

If we're guilty of ignoring more important issues by focusing attention on the Limbaugh matter...

Then aren't you guilty of the same thing by focusing attention on our focusing attention?

I have one, how about "GAY" right next to a picture of him. This would mostly be to see the media war that would follow from both parties.

/Knows this would never happen, but it would be entertaining.
