Understood. You can't expect him to stay with his sister after she's been seen doing some other guy.

When will rock music stop being boring?

I want Jack White to join the Jonas Brothers.

Wow they cover Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric".

platkat: When will rock music stop being boring?

When you stop biatching, stop being lazy, and get out there and find something that you like. It takes next to no effort whatsoever, and yet here you are, whining.

Man, your life must suck.

Relax buddy, she's just poking fun at a band(musician) being linked/discussed on Fark.

Personally I'm a sucker for distorted organ. Sounds so awesome.

Oh, he's still the 'singer' in the new band. My level of 'meh'-ness will be causing John Hodgman sleepless nights...

I liked that track. Was it really worse than Duran Duran or Sheena Easton?

1. I can't see her teets, so I can't tell how the new band will be (yes, that's sarcasm).
2. I saw An Horse on TV last night; it was the anti-White Stripes (guy on drums, gal on guitar and singing). Fairly decent: she reminded me a little (only a little) of Tanya Donellyy.

That would be 'View to a Kill' and 'For Your Eyes Only' respectively, right? I actually liked both of those, seemed to fit the Bond stuff a bit more. The Easton bit wasn't too exciting, but any soft song by a female at least doesn't clash with a Bond movie (well, okay, Crow and Madonna managed to do exactly that).

But the White/Keys duet really rubbed me the wrong way. The lyrics were bad, the delivery was just plain wrong and in my opinion, if you've got a male/female duet, the female part shouldn't be the masculine-sounding one. And maybe it was just me, but I didn't even discover traces of the theme during the main movie. So it was both annoying *and* utterly forgettable...

While the article says he's the singer/drummer and Alison Mossheart "shares the vocals" the iTunes page says Alison Mossheart is the vocalist and he plays guitar. And really when listening to the two tracks on the website she really does most of the singing work (though Jack can't really help himself and inserts himself).

I'm not sure who to trust here (especially since I can only base it on two songs), but the article might be overselling how much singing Jack will actually be doing.

the Discout song "Clap and Cough" is one of the best female pop-punk songs of all time.
I like the Kills sound, but they are a bit repetitive (the first two albums at least), so you gotta listen to it in small doses.
her and jack white togheter?? hmmm, i'll have to check it out.

will probably check this out. The Kills can be really good when they want, but their last album was a bit too much farking around.

These are the themes we remember. Does anyone remember the theme for Moonraker? Has anyone seen Moonraker (*shudder*)?

As for TFA, the two folks in the background look suspiciously like the drummer and Brendan from the Raconteurs.

Someone want to explain to me how this is news? All this means is that I have yet another reason to not listen to the radio. Jack White needs to join Buckcherry in the Good Musician's School of Songwriting before he goes and thinks himself worthy to go around starting side projects.

Someone call me when the White Stripes create actual music, not three chord noise...

I hear enough real music.

When I want jangling guitars and "Beginner's Guide to Percussion" drumming, I turn to the Stripes.

Are we talking about videos or theme songs? That video was no sillier than Roger Moore's typical schtick in the Bond series. Well, the flying camera bit pushed it too far.

The song is excellent, and well-matched for the situation. If you disagree, fine, everyone's entitled to their own stupid opinions.

AND JUST TO MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR I'M BEING SARCASTIC WITH THE LAST SENTENCE. I'm serious about the song.

It was a Moore Bond. In Space. With Jaws. So, yes, it sucked.

I had to look up the theme on youtube. Sung by Shirley Bassey, so at least that's okay. But it really has no high points, no 'Gooold-FINGER *wahwahwahwah*' moment.

/I even liked the A-ha theme. Yet until this day I still don't knwo what 'Living Daylights' are...

FreeLoveFreeway: Wow they cover Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric".

BADLY

including at least one wrong note on the organ during the break.

The wonderfulness of the original, IMO, was its rigidity and drive. This is sloppy and sounds like something they did as a lark at a rehearsal. The only people you let hear that are your buddies, but you don't try to sell it.

I loves me some White Stripes and even the Raconteurs, but just listening to that cover made me forget this band instantly.

dmax: This is sloppy

well, jack did get his start in detroit's garage rock scene. it's not like that genre is known for rigidity or precision.

Close. It is the Raconteurs minus Brendan Benson plus the chick from The Kills. I listened to the first song and it is OK. I hope it grows on me.

And I liked the new Bond theme.

I like this. Messy and fuzzy and funky, big dynamics. Sweet.

Scott the Twat 2009-03-12 03:34:02 PM
Great. A "new" band with--from the sound of it--one tenth the Stripes' daring/inventiveness and one fifth the Kills' sultriness and balls. Not to mention, little indication of The Raconteurs' more disciplined songwriting.

Brand dilution, Jack. Let me show you it.

No. It. Wasn't.

Not sure about the Friends Electric songs, but Hang You From The Heavens is freaking sweet. And Jack's playing drums in this band, not guitar.

I thought that theme was very good, actually.

And as far as "worst.bond. theme. evar." goes, one must remember the theme of Casino Royal.
