The scariest thing IMHO is not Korea being able to reach the US with their missiles (I doubt it). It's that they only have to go a few miles to hit our military bases in their own country.

Too bad Kim would never meet with Obama, there's no forced perspective or platforms shoes in the world that would make him look like anything but a midget next to Obama.

Look at the revised maps. The people who said the missiles could reach the west coast were dumb enough to be using flat maps. The missiles can actually hit Chicago.

Didn't they usually crash after about 10 miles though? That's honestly the last thing I remember hearing (that they couldn't even get them past their own borders).

He'd play him in a game of basketball. The reported score would be 100 to 30, showing that while Obama is a capable player, he is no match for the Kim.

/Kim played golf for the first time and hit 8 hole in ones.
//Kim makes up his own chuck norris facts. and North Koreans buy it (or get shot)

Here's the scoop on "Overcharge" I heard from a Ukrainian co-worker: Apparently the word she picked is used for "Reboot" on computers. It's not exactly the right word but it is appropriate. It also shows that Mr. Red doesn't know how to use a computer, or at least a Russian one.

While diplomacy is all fun and games, I doubt things will change, even if this Clinton does have another autographed basket-ball.

The road to Pyongyang leads through Bejing, something Bush was astute enough to realize.

No reason to provoke NK. Just wean them off the aid until they collapse. They'll attack the South, kill a few hundred thousand people and then be reduced to the stone age in a matter of weeks. The first week or two would be really bad for the South, but the North would run out of steam very quickly.

Unlike Cuba, i don't see any possibility for a gradual shift from their present stance.

How many military bases do we have in North Korea?

For some reason I have a problem with this policy.

FTFY. In the case of the North Invading the south, Seoul would be completely leveled. The North Koreans arn't exactly going to play nice, they'd scorch the Earth because they know they'd lose. Besides, I'm not sure that even if you were right about the magnitude that the South Koreans would be too pleased that "just" a few hundred thousand of their people died because we wanted to take a tough stance and didn't have the patience to wait for Kim Jong Il to die. Besides, we don't want to provoke a Chinese response while we're playing war games. At the very least, I don't think the Chinese would be too happy about the flood of refugees that would certainly pour across their borders.

Unlike Cuba, i don't see any possibility for a gradual shift from their present stance.

Well, we'll see about that. If they keep Kaesong open, they say that it can employ 0.7M North Koreans by 2012. That's almost 3% of the population. Cell phones have been re-introduced in Pyongyang. With a leader just a little less insane than Kim Jong Il (which wouldn't be hard), I can see it happening.

They are barely in the Copper Age, so this isn't a big disincentive for them.

Are you kidding? That's like a Russian military wet dream: They completely conquer an insurgent force in less than 6 months, killing roughly 3/4ths of them and forcing the other 1/4th to run away.

The "Wolverines" were up against second or third rate troops for most of the movie, Cubans and rear echelon Soviet occupation troops. That explains a lot of their 'success'. When the Spetznaz unit shows up, they manage to wipe out the Wolverines in about a month, maybe two at the most.

If it weren't for the American flag flying over "Partisan Rock" at the end, you'd think the Russians won.

If only Afghanistan and Chechnya had been that easy.

Heh. i was trying to avoid seeming overly dramatic. People tend to get dismissive of estimates with big numbers. But yeah. Seoul would be a crater.

i hope i'm wrong about NK's ability to join the world.

Note that the first sentence of my post was "No reason to provoke the North".

Don't be stupid.

If you have to start a sentence with a number, you are supposed to spell it out: "Two. But you didn't hear that from me."

Yep. Typical analyst, can't see the obvious right in front of their faces...

I used to laugh at the crap coming out of the PAR shop.

It's a return to the stupid. Bi lateral talks with NK are pointless. Didn't work for Clinton, won't work now. The only progress made on NK has been the unilateral pressure of the last 8 years. Are liberals so blind to that fact?

Did no one question the symbolism of giving our nuclear adversary a big red button to push? And now we want to give one to a country we very much do NOT want to have nuclear power? Brilliant!

Even acknowledging a guy that's been starving and shooting his own people for decades is stupid. That's like saying Hitler is a swell guy because I enjoyed having tea with him.

Let them rattle their saber. They know if they launch any type of offensive, it's all over for them.

Only Hillary could be that brilliant. Let's reset our relationship, now that Russia is invading their neighbors, and killing off journalists. A year or two ago, it was safer to be a journalist in Iraq than in Russia.

Awesome!

Careful with that kind of assertion. If a power greater than North Korea were to retaliate (examples: United States, England, Germany, the MythBusters, etc.) against their bullying, they'll put on the whole butt-hurt act as if they're the ones being persecuted in the first place.

You know, dish it, can't take it &c.
