So that makes like forty actual terrorists and 999,960 people with unfortunately common Western names?

HotWingConspiracy [TotalFark] 2009-03-11 07:15:21 PM
The remaining million entries represent about 400,000 individuals, according to the center.

Hmmm

So if we just killed these 400,000 people, we'd defeat terror?

My boss has the unfortunately common name of Jim Smith.

I make a point to book my flights and hotel rooms for myself only, and I will dodge him in the security lane at the airport every single time.

Apparently, this is what winning the war on terror requires.

Mr. Anon: I can't wait until that list hits three hundred million. "Please arrive at the airport 8 hours prior to boarding. Feel safe citizen."

It has, really. They're just quiet about it and don't bother writing all of our names down yet.

Spending on programs like the terrorist watch list keep people working. This is stimulus! You aren't against government stimulus, are you??

How can there be 1 million "terrorists" when there are not that many terrorists acts?

Don't you need to perform "Terrorism" to be a "terrorist"?

The word has been stretched to some absurd double speak form.

"Terrorist" now also covers people who might better be described as "potential terrorists", "terrorist sympathizers", "terrorism financiers", and "people who bought fertilizer at Home Depot last spring". Absurd doublespeak, I agree.

Next steps suggestion:

Recruit 150k active informers from the said suspect list.
With their help, upgrade the list to 5m.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
Enjoy the resulting freedom from terrorism.

Basically, what our government wants is for it to be impossible to obey the law. If they make everyone criminals, then they can control the population and it'll look good in the press.

When I was in college I was a member of a leftist debate group and had a crush on a girl with an Arab last name. I might be a turrist?

Approximate Assumed Annualized growth rate (month of from 07-09 is unclear) from the article: 16%.

Years until 300 million people are on list: 40
Years until 7 billion are on the list: 60

Breed faster you bastards or there won't be anyone we can trust.

Not JUST like, the prison lobby isn't involved yet. Not enough money in it yet to turn it into a travesty on the level of the War on (Some) Drugs. Once they get that part figured out though...

They've been working on it longer than that, this part is just getting everyone to cheer for it while it happens.

From the article:

"enhanced the U.S. government's counterterrorism efforts."

Translation:

"Has helped ensure that political donors have cushy jobs for their relatives."

I was drunk and surly to a stewardess; oohh sorry Airline Attendant; one time so I am probably on the list. That is probably why they never stop me at security, it's so they can see who I consort with and then add their names to the list.

I am no doubt an unwitting accomplice to this charade

Be careful what you type my friends we live in paranoid times.

Back when my hit counter thingee used to actually tell me where people were visiting me from my thoughts were torn between the government loves me and the government wants me to say goodbye to the series of tubes.

Secret prisons. Secret courts. Secret police. Secret "watch lists' of American citizens. Warrantless domestic spying. All the things a kid in Reagan-era America was told were the actions of pure Evil. The natural waste-product of godless communism that must be stopped at all costs, lest they continue.

Communism died and they did continue. Here.

I've come to accept they they didn't really give a shiat about these 'evil' things. The bloody and generations-long fight against world communism was a fight against losing customers, nothing more.

And they wonder why we're disillusioned.
