They had a good son on the Batman Forever soundtrack, the most sensitive of all the Batmans.

Oh, I don't know. Bale seems pretty sensitive around his director of photographer.

/cough, cough

They covered Kylie Minogue too. I'd also like to cover Kylie Minogue.

Now I've heard two songs by the Flaming Lips, after having heard "She Don't Use Jelly" a ka-billion times. That's right, I've never heard anything else by the Flaming Lips. I hear they're good.

That was an interesting and well-done rendition of a cool tune with stupid lyrics. Not much they could do with the lyrics, of course, so I figure they made the best of what they had to work with.

I am reminded of that kid in everyone's middle school who thought they were playing the piano *really cool* by holding the sustain pedal down and playing a song until it was nothing but godawful reverb.

Ironic covers are one of those quirks you have to tolerate from some of your favorite musicians. About seven years ago I saw David Byrne close a show with Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Best unexpected covers at shows:

Nickle Creek ripping up Toxic
The New Pornographers (with Neko) rocking Don't Bring Me Down
Rodrigo y Gabriela whipping out Wish You Were Here which turned into a sing-along

Although I suppose the only ironic one in there was Toxic
