What, is Coldplay going to teach us some awesome guitar licks or drum fills?

Current-day Rock n' Roll sucks.

That was quite a lineup. And I bet tickets were less than $20.

I can't wait until the Nearly Supergroup finally tours.

Ted Rundgren
Daniel Gilmour
Erin Clapton
Ian Gillian
Eddie Van Galen
Donn Scott
Frank Nappa
Eddie Lee
and Britney Sphearis

That'll be worth standing in line to pay $5 to get into the local dive bar.

"It's Setzer."

The only song I can think of by Todd Rundgren is "Hello, It's Me." I like it, but it doesn't exactly rock...

No, I'm pretty sure it's "Seltzer."

Listen to "A Wizard, a True Star." Todd wails on guitar on this album. And several others, for that matter. He's about as multidimensional as musicians come.

I'll second that, and you might also want to dig a little deeper into Todd's history and check out the second Nazz album, Nazz Nazz. Does it rock? Yes it does.

Fall Out Boy and Coldplay are not qualified to be Todd Rundgren's roadies. Flaming Lips would probably like to be Todd Rundgren's roadies just for the fun they could make out of it.

You could probably experience more about music in one hour with Todd Rundgren than with anyone currently alive and kicking, that I can think of right now.

and definitely check out something/anything. in addition to "hello, it's me," it has "i saw the light," "slut," "black maria" and the amazing power pop explosion that is "couldn't i just tell you."

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Duff McKagan and Todd Rundgren

When did Todd Rundgren join Aerosmith?

True: my aunt is friends with Joey Kramer's mother. Could I possibly spew a more oblique name drop?

Ok! I'm a Chicago fan, so I understand people who rock when you dig deeper. I'm so excited to find new music! Oh, and I like "I Saw The Light," too!

Ok...so who the fark is Todd Rundgren anyways. I've heard the name hundreds of times, but even after some quick research (google/wiki) I still have no freakin' idea who he is, or why I should give a rats a$$.

mrEdude 2009-03-11 11:35:33 PM
todd rundgren is awesome
and spending time learning from someone like him
would be a worthwhile pursuit

he having been involved in the biz for forty years
from making the music to producing videos and beyond

A Wizard A True Star is a phenomenal work from 1971
and Something/Anything a triumph from the following year,
Rundgren himself playing most of the instruments much of the time.

steven tyler is meaningless and who the fark is duff mckagan??
GNR? omigawd, poor farkin Todd.

Saw King's X in Dallas last summer- R&R Fantasy Camp was the minor attraction prior to the "real show" I wasn't aware of this... I just showed up when the doors opened and stood there watching these guys play with "the Stars" (which they were.... Elliot Easton, Kip Winger, Earl Slick, Dave Ellfeson, Glenn Hughes...) but I stood there nursing a beer thinking "what kind of douche pays $3k to get on stage and play 3 songs cobbled together in a few hours... just to "live the dream"?

Then the last fantasy band comes out and I see a guy I'd played with on projects a few years ago.

... and then I knew EXACTLY what kind of douche bag would pay $3k to "live the dream"

/I blame American Idol.
//And Rock Hero... Guitar Band... whatever.... I need to go practice.

Todd Rundgren: singer, songwriter, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, drummer, album cover artist, producer, engineer, music video pioneer/director, award-winning software designer, computer hardware designer... Renaissance man.

Wow...you sound pretty douchey yourself.

/played hundreds of gigs.
//plays guitar hero with my kids.
///enjoys it.

Madbassist1 [TotalFark] 2009-03-12 04:00:21 AM
on reflection, probably not hundreds of gigs...between 1 and 2 hundred tho, easy.

GibbyTheMole 2009-03-12 08:59:58 AM
If I were to pick any artist to learn the "tricks of the trade" from, it would be Rundgren. Who do you want to learn from? Some wet-behind-the-ears little punk that's a big hit with the 12-year olds, or someone with a 40-year career who has literally done it all?

Onkel Buck 2009-03-12 09:05:53 AM
I would love to jam with Rundgren

Yeah. I'll take that... if you can't be douchey on fark where can you be douchey?

But here's the deal- the guy was the epitome of "I was this close to being a star" EVERY time I ran into him... regardless of your experience, he had more. dude was talented, no doubt... but the douchyness really overshadowed what talent he had...

/played hundreds of gigs too
//still gigging
///also plays RB 1&2 with kids and coworkers- sings or plays drums to be less douchey
////enjoys everything but "Mississippi Queen"
